QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Feb 18, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) New Trier also had a tough game the night before against Evanston that was undoubtedly mentally and physically draining. If NT didn't plat its biggest rival the night before, I think they would have beaten EC. You never know, maybe they would have had a better shot. They were a solid team but far from one of the better teams E.C. has faced. They were capable of pulling out a win, but I like our chances of winning bigger on most nights. -

QUOTE(Brian @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 12:55 PM) It was tied at 44 going into the 4th, but than it was all EC has they hit a couple of 3's to start the 4th. Deshawn Scott for EC is a horse down low and they have a couple of good guards. Garcia is a good player but didn't have the best game. Plays outside a lot. That's Kawann Short (KAY KAY). he is a 3 star football dee lineman going to Purdue. He was big time in the state title game last year along with E'twaun and Angel. Angel hates the post he plays a typical European big man game. He does have good range and handles the ball great for 6'11 but he falls in love with it too much for the high school level. Angel clearly plays up and down to his competion as well, New Treir was well coached and disiplined but wasn't all that athletic so Angel tends to cruise in those matchups unfortunatly. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 01:05 AM) First of all, if Richmond had more than 1 assist, I would be surprised. He didn't even pass the ball 8 times all night, so having 8 assists is a joke. OPRF was very well coached, and Shumpert actually was a better rebounder than Richmond was. By my calculations, Shumpert was 2-7 from the field, and 3-4 from the FT line. Richmond was 4-18 from the field and 8-12 from the FT line. It was a terrible game. East Chicago was very entertaining to watch, as their frontcourt has more size than most college teams. And trust me, it has nothing to do with my bias. You should have seen the neutral fans at the game shift to OPRF as the game went on due to Richmond's antics. I was at the games as well and see most of East Chicago's games every year. This years team just doesn't play with the intensity of last year, especially on DEE!. Connor has been strong at point, and he played terrible Sat. A lack luster performannce by EC (we did play a up tempo game the night before winning 99-86), but they did enough to win. They will have to amp it up with sectionals beginning, even without E'twaun (who went off in front of many EC fans for 28 against N'western that afternoon) this team should be playing at a higher level at this point. Kay Kay Short who is going to Purdue for football, was the banger against New Treir, but he is only 6'4 so other then Angel our size is nowhere near a college team. I was not impressed with OPRF or Waukegan but it was only one game. Both teams looked offensively challenged for the most part. -

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) Gotta love it, this just must not be UNC's year, and I'm never going to question recruiting over players again. UNC's injury list now. Frasor: out for season Lawson: out with ankle Thompson: questionable with hyper-extended knee Green: questionable with flu Ginyard: ankle injury, limited in play Hansbrough: turf toe, limited in play Quentin Thomas: back spasms, limited in play UNC's injured team could kick UNC's healthy teams butt. I've heard that Hansborough is actually a pretty bad ingrown toenail that he has been dealing with to this point. They are drilling his nail to drain it, but it looks like they will have to remove the nail totally, which would sideline him maybe a day or two in practice. Ginyard is really hobbeled with both legs beat up. The ankle and a turf toe on different legs. Lawson should be due back soon. I'm glad he rested it, his game is predicated on speed and quickness laterally. To not let it heal fully would have been a mistake, even though he has been cleared by the doctors since the Duke game. By the skin of their teeth they scratched out 3 out of 4 to this point. Keep fighting the good fight and hope to get healthy for the NCAA, no sense in rushing any of them back at this point. The East 1 seed is a nice advantage (all Carolina sites to the four), but it's not worth wearing these guys down and having the injuries nag on and on. -

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 15, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) There aren't really a whole lot of places close to the stadium, it's a mostly residential area of town outside of some shops on Central. You really only have two options near the stadium. The first is Bluestone at 1932 Central (maybe 6 blocks from the stadium, other side of the train tracks), which is basically upscale bar food. It gets REALLY packed on game days, but it might not be as bad for an afternoon game. The other is Mustard's Last Stand right by the stadium, which is basically just a hole in the wall with your fast food staples (not exactly cheap for what it is either). You might want to consider hitting downtown Evanston for food before hand, there are far more dining options there. Thanks. I'm sure I'll be OK a couple of cold ones and a burger will do me just fine. -

I will be at the Purdue/ N'western game Saturday. I'll also be sticking around to see the high school matchups at Welsh-Ryan, mainly to root on my E.C. Central Cardinals that evening. Any N'western alum/students who have some suggestions for a place to grab a drink or two and a quick meal while I'm near the arena. -

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 01:04 PM) How in the world do you get out of a LOI if you just changed your mind? Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of signing an LOI? If he was recruited illegally he may be granted freedom from his LOI. Why would the kid get punished for the coach/school wooing him by illegal methods. -

QUOTE(dasox24 @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 11:39 AM) Doesn't surprise me in the least. Most of my dislike for Indiana comes from them having Sampson as their head coach, and his handling of the Gordon situation. Regardless of how you feel about the program, they are one of the best historically and it's sad to see this happen. They should bring back Knight... He would just quit on them if they were not going to make the tournament (I'm tired of it, but I might coach again somewhere). Sampson will be gone, but Knight will be the LAST guy they consider. My dislike for Indiana comes from having Knight there, so toss both the assholes aside and start over IU. I would like to see Dakich the region boy get the gig, but I doubt that he will. -

My Heels survive another game without Ty. I'm a bit surprised that Singletary didn't go off for 35 plus. Q got his fouls trying to guard him and having Ginyard avaliable was huge! A win at Virginia is always good, they have owned UNC there of late. The Va. Tech game was when Lawson was targeted to come back hopefully he is well recovered, they are very average without him & Frasior. Ellington played well and Tyler is Tyler; big time bucket down the stretch and another all american performance. -

Hummel was great tonight, and against Wisky. He is no where near frosh of the year though. EJ is in another class. He and E'twaun have identical numbers this year (it's scary how similar). Each have stepped up in different games to be the man also. The Boilers have been without Scott Martin who is very capable of the same type of game. They are playing as a unit and even though they are freshman the three have played together for years now in da region. The Hummel comparision I see is with Kyle Singler from Duke. Their games are similar, and Robbie looks to be a poor mans Singler at this point. E'twaun still is the only guy that has the ability to create, and draws the top defensive guy usually. Mich. State did a great job locking him up in the secong half which did cause him to force a couple. Overall the Boilers are playing solid all around ball, the game in Bloomington should be reminisant of the hard fought battles the IU/Purdue rivalry is legendary for. -

Lawson & Ginyard will be gametime decisions tonight. If both can't go it will be down to Q. Thomas and a couple of walk-ons as points. Maybe Ellington handles the rock some (trouble). Charlotesville is an ACC house of horrors for the Heels this could be rough tonight. Getting healthy is imperative, but I hope at least one can go full strength tonight. -

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 10:55 AM) Road games in conference are hard, nuff said. That they are. Big win for Texas, KU just never seemed to get a rhythm, and they got pounded late on the boards again. Some were pretty wild loose ball rebounds, but Texas seemed to come flyin' in with some clutch put back dunks. -

QUOTE(farmteam @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 06:43 PM) Definitely. Besides hype, all Gordon really has going for him has been straight scoring, but he really hasn't been playing well and has had a lot of turnovers. D.J., on the other hand, is still second in the conference in scoring and first in rebounding (by a large margin) and has led this team all season, not Gordon. His ball handleing looks to be hampered by his hand injury, which has slowed his penetration game down. EJ is probably the best player in the big 11, but I agree DJ is probably the player of the year at this point. -

That's about as tough as it gets for Clemson. To break the all time record of consecutive loses at one place in a game they controlled. They can't afford to have a hangover from this letdown or they risk missing the NCAA. As for my Heels they battled and Ty got to rest his bum ankle, I can't ask for more. Hansborough was big time as usual, and Danny Green knocked down the big three's down the stretch, hopefully he can get his stroke back. UNC should feel very fortunate, but they showed a great deal of heart to comeback and battle to victory. -

Q. Thomas is helpless trying to run this uptempo running game and pressure dee style, I almost feel bad for him. I'm glad Ty is staying out if he is not 100%, he is the engine for both sides of the ball and as much as another ACC loss hurts it's nowhere near as important as being full force when he returns. Barring a Clemson collapse the streak should be over and that's fine, just get well TY. Without him they are a middle of the pack team. -

Scott Wood from Marion, Ind. joins his backcourt mate Julius Mays with a committment to N.C. State. I haven't seen much of this kid he's solid from what I've seen but I'm not overly impressed with him or Mays. He's a shooter, but I'm baseing a lot of this on the semi-state game last year where Mays got totally locked up by E.C. Central and E'twaun Moore. Wood shot it well, but did not stand out that much either. Anyway Sidney Lowe must see something he really likes from Marion. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) Come on man, its ok, hes a nice guy just has some baggage with him. And hes not even close to the shadiest coach in the Big Ten right now anyway. Here is some quotes from Joe Tiller who is very well respected around the league. and another http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...eDwuaMy4HJzE%3D Wow, but it seems to be commonplace throughout football. I think like 75 kids flipped yesterday besides Roundtree. Hell, teams advertise which kids who are committed elsewhere, but may still be coming to their school come signing day. If they are such a firm yes they would not still be taking recruiting visits. -

Well, Oregon is still trying to get the egg off of their face for the treatment that Love got when UCLA came to town. It has been a pretty big black eye for the university, so I would think that Illinois officials have taken notice, and have tried to stay on top of the crowd going overboard. Love torched the Ducks that night though. Good for him! I dislike two teams IU & Duke so I'll root for the upset tonight, but I also hope EJ does well. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 10:14 AM) Duke has been the most impressive team this year. I hate them but have to respect what they have done. Any list of top teams that does not include Duke is just blatantly putting emotions in front of fact. I dont know how anyone can "love" a match up with Duke considering Duke has been shooting the three insanely and that is a recipe for a disaster. Id rather not go into a game with my chances of winning coming down to the whether the other team misses shots. As a Wisconsin fan, Id much rather play UCLA, Kansas, or Memphis than Duke, but thats just my opinion. I like the matchup because with a strong point like Lawson who had 20 assist and 1 turnover in the last 4 games the Duke Dee won't force the turnovers they depend on. Without that Carolina's frontline dominates Duke night in night out and Lawson will add penetration kick outs, easy fastbreak points, etc. to help Ellington/Green get looks. It's a great matchup with Lawson in; I LOVE the matchup. Duke can shoot lights out and lose anyway, hell they did last night and UNC hung with 3rd string Q running the show. Give me Duke way before G'town, UCLA, Memphis, Kansas, or maybe even Tennesee against NC at least. Without Ty I don't like any of those matchups, and many others as well, including Duke. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 12:02 AM) UNC has ZERO shot at the Final Four (outside of a lucky draw) unless they figure out a way to defend. They are the worst defensive team I've seen all year among teams that could go to the Sweet 16, and by a pretty wide margin. Their offensive skill when healthy is extraordinary, but they are just so damn lazy on defense. They are like the NCAA Phoenix Suns. I agree there is work to be done on that side of the ball, but they are one of about 7 or 8 teams that are in the best shape to go to the four. If they have NO chance then not many do. With Ty in there their Dee is much more aggerssive and does create turnovers at least, without him their defeiciencies on Dee were even greater with no upside with the extended pressure. Duke seems to have more issues as a tournament team to me, with no interior threats, I LOVE Carolina over Duke this year with Ty running the show. UCLA, Kansas, & Memphis do seem to be the best teams looking to go to San Antonio at this point, but UNC goes head up with any of them with Ty 100%. -

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) UNC is a totally different team with Lawson. Outside of Hansbrough and Ginyard, nobody else came to play tonight and Duke shot out of their minds 48% from 3 and won by 10. I feel really good about the game in Durham with Lawson back. Heck, even with Frasor in the game it would have been much closer. Quentin just isn't a D1 caliber unfortunately. No doubt, I was a bit surprised how close we played with Q at the point. With Lawson we cruise last night. Q hurt big time defensivly as well, he got caught watching penetration numerous times and Paulus floated to a spot for the clear 3ball. Our pressure Dee that is vital was not there with Q either. More then that when he had to sit Ginyard moved to point and William Graves had to get signifigant time, he was just a body out there. Frazior would have been enough last night. It's never fun to lose to Duke but from what I saw last night I LOVE our chances down the road against them with Lawson. The key is getting Ty back 100%, without him UNC is a average team. -

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) Hard to deny he was one of, if not the best X's and O's coach that basketball has ever seen. He never was a big recruiter, but he enjoyed taking talent that others didn't want and beating you with them. The recruiting part sounds more like Gene Keady. He took Indiana's scraps and played IU with Knight dead even for a long period of time. Until Glen Robinson the only big recruit Bobby lost to Gene was Russell Cross. IU also got the national kids quite often. He got the #1 in the nation out of Texas who flopped. While I was in college IU had the #1 incoming class followed by Damon Bailey. I remember because IU fans were talking s*** about Carolina getting Montrose, and I bet them 100$ per national championship ring between Bailey & Montrooss since Carolina had #1 class that year and IU had the #1 class the previous year. I like how that worked out for me. Bobby recruited and got who he wanted , he owned Illinois, Indiana for years. When he lost he lost with great talent, and when he won he won with great talent. He picked and chose his teams , he needed to break the stars down when they came to Bloomington and then rebuild them under his control. Sometimes it worked, and they were great college system kids, sometimes it didn't, and they were shells of the players that came in. Don't believe the he didn't recruit well hype!! -

QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Feb 5, 2008 -> 06:36 AM) No, he was looking out for his son because the new president didn't guarantee him anything. I would of done the same thing for my own son. Very loyal man, whether you like him or not. Very loyal, in this circumstance? Pat has been guarenteed the spot by the new school president. Where is the LOYALTY to his team that is struggling and needs to really kick ass down the stretch to make the NCAA tournament. They are struggeling and he is tired, so give Pat a head start for next year and quit.
