  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 29, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) Morneau is hitting .292 with 7 home runs and 29 RBI in 130 at bats. Konerko is hitting .234 with 13 home runs and 37 RBI in 175 at bats. I'll take the Paulie from last year...where he spent the year around .280, over Morneau. I don't want a Konerko who hits .234. i agree. a paulie who hits .234, can not stand!!! (bad seinfeld reference there). but consider this -- it is still may. i hate using this example, but derek jeter was hitting something .013 after may, and wound up hitting nearly .300 for the year. yeah, yeah, paul konerko isn't derek jeter, but you get the idea. also, paulie's protection in the lineup this year has been garbage. you might as well hit me behind him. with frank back tomorrow, hopefully he stays healthy and helps paulie get some more pitches to hit. i'm just not ready to turn on paulie after the numbers he's put up in the past with the lineup he's been hitting in this year. and i'll bet ANYTHING paul konerko makes the all-star team. and for the record, no, i'm not related to paul konerko.
  2. QUOTE(JimH @ May 29, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) So if they lose this game it's a 4-5 road trip, they lost 1 1/2 games to the Twins in the standings over that time period, and have their next 18 of 24 games at home. EXACTLY. we all got spoiled in the first two months of this season.
  3. QUOTE(Brian @ May 29, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) Yeah, this is the only bad game Paulie has had all year. who would you say are going to be the first basemen on this year's all-star team? i think the guy who is first in homers and second in ribbies among first basemen will probably be on that team, no? i don't live in chicago, so perhaps i've avoided it, but does everyone out there suffer from twin-is envy?
  4. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 29, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) I said Morneau was better than Konerko before the season started. You don't have to have a proven major league track record to be good. i agree. past performance is no guarantee of current production. but paulie is having a better season than morneau this year, so i'm not getting it. just someone tell me what makes him better? his propensity for hitting the ball the opposite way?
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ May 29, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) I'd take Morneau over PK in a heartbeat. what's the logic? paulie is 0 for 3 today so you want to get rid of him?
  6. QUOTE(JimH @ May 29, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) As long as he hits them opposite field right? yeah, ross gload is the answer to all our problems. thank god we're not panicking and talking crazy.
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 29, 2005 -> 03:17 PM) Morneau is better than PK. are you joking? morneau hasn't even played a full season yet. paulie is a proven 30-plus homer guy. i'm glad we're not overreacting on this board or anything.
  8. QUOTE(AirScott @ May 29, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) I began typing that at 5-3 when everyone was saying it was over. I probably should have erased it, but if you give me really good odds, I'll consider it. lol i have a rule where i don't bet on my teams, so i'm not gonna start betting against them. and the twins aren't a better team than us. you want to talk about starters pitching over their heads, take a look at carlos silva's numbers, or any of their starters over the last two weeks. it's been ridiculous. with as hot as they've been, they're still gonna be 4 back heading into the week. this has been a long road trip against some tough teams. this is merely the first bump in the road of the season, and the fact it hasn't come till now should be encouraging. it's not like we're struggling against the royals and tigers here.
  9. QUOTE(AirScott @ May 29, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) by the way everyone, they will still be playing the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings today. just thought I'd let everyone know that they will not be cutting it short tonight so everyone can go home and watch the Yankees-Red Sox game...and as I type this the Rangers score 2 more runs and I guess Ozzie still hasn't figured out you can in fact pull your starter before the 7th. would you care to wager on who wins this game now? they could give us six innings to come back. not gonna happen.
  10. at what point do you say, "hey, i'm the manager of this team. perhaps i should remove that guy standing on that hill in the middle of the infield."? oh well, at least roy halladay took care of us today.
  11. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 28, 2005 -> 12:33 AM) Timo was getting WAAAY too much playing time as it is. No bat, crappy base-running, and shoddy defense -- he has more than earned his release. 54 ABs isn't WAAAAAYYYY too much playing time. but he does suck the balls.
  12. QUOTE(jerseysox @ May 28, 2005 -> 12:30 AM) Yeah, Timo gawn. It's ashame, because he could be decent if he got more playing time, but as his role is now, he's just utterly useless. And personally, I need to see Frank get his average above .270 in AAA before I start thinking about bringing him back. The shot in the arm he'd give us right now would be the kind of shot in the arm Mark Prior took today....ZING!!!! Personally, if Gload came back and hit fifth I wouldn't complain. He couldn't be any worse than anyone else who has occupied that spot. Oh, and that banner on this site -- I don't think it's BMac's time. Personally, in the future, I'll try not to use personally so much in my posts.

  14. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 27, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) @ southsiders. Welcome to soxtalk. thanks. i'm going to go vomit in my mouth now.
  15. Hey all, big White Sox fan from Jersey here. I've been posting on southsiders.net, but I had to come looking for something else because everyone there is 16 and the most intelligent posts are "this sucks" and "white sox rule." Anyhow, just wanted to point out that the White Sox can make absolutely anyone look like Cy Young. If any productive regular gets a day off, i.e. Iguchi tonight, we are absolutely hapless. It's OK to be weak offensively, but to be as bad as we are with one solid player out is going to be a longterm problem. So, F the Twins, F the Rangers, and Go Sox!
