  1. i don't know how you guys deal with him on a regular basis. whenever i see him on around the horn, i turn the channel. he's so slimy. i put the show on, a topic is being discussed by some other blowhard, and mariotti starts making that, "you're a moron and here comes the right answer as soon as you shut up" face. he really needs to get the clap.
  2. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) I really think his problem before the Padres series was that he was overworked...the weekend before that series he pitched in something like 4 straight games, and ended up giving up his first run in the last one of them. I think the week off is just what Hermie ordered. he gave up his first run at the end of that home series with the angels, two days after the whole jeff brantley thing. starting then, his work was sort of sporadic. he'll be fine.
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 12:00 AM) He got his 90 MPH fastball over on the first pitch and had good movement on his breaking balls. the work has been getting regular recently. i think it's key.
  4. i thought he had been too rested lately. he looked a little rusty from the padres series forward.
  5. debating about your team's attendance is like competing in the special olympics. even if you win, you're still retarded. but seriously, i'm a fan of the new jersey devils. and if you don't know, NO ONE goes to their games. NO ONE. ticket prices are flat out absurd, and the fan base isn't what it could be because of the rangers and islanders. you know what though? i couldn't care less. they are my favorite team. period. i don't care if i'm the only who watches. they win, i'm happy. they lose, i'm sad. i don't care how many people they play in front of. i don't know why anyone would. i'm sure you guys get this from cubs fans a lot, but rangers fans loving giving us devils fans s*** about attendance. "why don't you go watch your team in a half-filled arena?" meanwhile, the devils are like 30-1-12 in their last 43 against the rangers. it's laughable when ATTENDANCE is what worries you. all you should care about is whether or not your team wins. so, in other words, stop worrying so much about what others think. white sox rule, and so do you!
  6. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 10:12 PM) How about cotts proves himself for more than half of a year? Right now he cannot touch marte. kevin walker is better than marte. there's no debating this.
  7. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 10:04 PM) Thanks for the recap, guys. Boy, I'm glad that we sent down Neal Cotts earlier in the season like the many people here on this board were calling for. Oh wait... Cotts is better than Marte, just like my dead grandmother is. Shingo is going to lay the place to waste like.
  8. QUOTE(Adam G @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 11:51 AM) Joe Borowski lives in my building and I've gotta think of something snappy to say to him about Jeter hitting his first career grand slam off him in New York. Any suggestions? ask him if he learned that pitch at rutgers.
  9. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 12:41 AM) I'm an umpire, but i'm still trying to figure this one out. It's one base from the rubber, 2 off...so i'm thinking that the ump determined that he stepped off the rubber to throw (pivoted his foot to the side, off the rubber). He definitely balked before hand though, as his left foot came up before his right one did. Now, i am completely unsure whether or not what Jabroni said is correct - i don't know if it's possible to give a base runner a base for a pickoff and an overthrow from the rubber at the same time, nor do i know if that's how they ruled it. I don't remember hearing that on the telecast. he absolutely stepped off the rubber. it's what caused him to stumble and hurt himself.
  10. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 11:06 PM) Maybe they thought Weaver intentionally threw the ball into the stands? he stepped off, turned, caught his foot in the dirt, stumbled, threw it into the stands. he gets two bases. he definitely stepped off, and that led to the stumble.
  11. Random Non-Game Info: On Baseball Tonight today at noon, they gave Steve Phillips a chance to predict how the Central was going to shake out. He said the Twins would win the division. Not that they can't, but come on, Steve-o. Don't be an idiot all your life.
  12. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) And the Twins go down 1-2-3 in the 7th! at what point do we start concerning ourselves more with the indians than we do the twinkies?
  13. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 02:26 PM) Game is tied at 1 with a Dave Roberts home run. the next time you think about white sox corpseball, just remember that the twins have scored 1 run on darrell may. the twins are not that good.
  14. QUOTE(soxman352000 @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) Torii is also spelled Torri so why don't you just shut up. Your not the grammar police Torii Hunter spells his name one way. I'm not the grammar police, I'm the idiot police, and you my friend, are under arrest.
  15. QUOTE(soxman352000 @ Jun 19, 2005 -> 01:14 AM) Is this the five oclock free crack give away? I know, I'm a horrible person, but I hate Torri Hunter torri hunter doesn't play for the twins. torii hunter does though. you really gotta fix the sig, dude.
  16. i hate to say it, but buerhle is the a-hole in this situation. and there's no one i love more on this team than buehrle. but he should have either A) kept his mouth shut when he was asked the question, or 2) actually gave a name instead of just making vague inferences. and the argument that he was tricked into answering this question by some radio DJ is ludicrous. mark's a grown man and has been dealing with the media for a long time and should have kept his mouth shut. if he came out and said, "i've heard from a couple of people that greg maddux uses the pine tar," then it'd be fine. i could respecte that. but with this, it just puts a black cloud over every cubs pitcher who isn't cheating, and it sort of gives the s***ty cubs another reason to get up to play us. i know how you chitown folks hate the cubbies and don't care if their guys get hammered by this, but it was a dick move. and how can you get mad at dempster for firing back at a guy who insinuated he might be cheating? wouldn't you do the same if someone accused you of cheating and it was false? now, rip me to shreds, because i know you will.
  17. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 18, 2005 -> 10:15 AM) I'll pass. He belongs in the NL, he has been horrible otherwise. agreed. he's an average NL guy at best. he got lit up in the World Series by the Yankees. and now that i think about it, he looked awful against them a few days ago with Pittsburgh. he stinks. and just exactly who is he going to replace in the rotation?
  18. he's gonna get so much ass because of this. i'm talking like boy band ass here. can you picture some of the white sox players using some of vince's greatest movie lines: "Ozzie, I own three Speaker Cities. I'm worth 35 and a half million dollars the government knows about. You think I'm gonna lend my bats to some kids from Triple A? Just make sure you can see the field." --Paul Konerko "Who's the big winner? Who's the big winner? Buerhle's the big winner!!!!" --Mark Buehrle "I'm gonna make little Kerry's head bleed." --Jose Contreras, on Kerry Wood
  19. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 02:21 PM) We swept the s*** out of the Blue Jays at skydome. The Yankees honestly DON'T scare me. They sure didn't scare the Royals.... if you're telling me you'd rather face the Yankees than the Royals, then you should go shake your crack dealer's hand, because he is obviously selling the greatest crack on the planet.
  20. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) But the Yankees are playing like crap, despite whatever talent they have on paper. Their team is just not very good. I think certainly Toronto and maybe even Baltimore will fade. That division will be pretty bad when it's all said and done, in my opinion. who do you feel would be tougher to beat in a series? the tigers and indians or the yankees and blue jays?
  21. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) I disagree. They have had better defensive teams. Seems like they have an error or two everynight and several of those have cost them games this year. But I'm not complaining. agreed. nowhere near their best. and joe nathan's era is approaching 4. that makes me smile.
  22. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) I guess NL east is a little better at this point. i think the al east is the best from top to bottom. before yesterday, the yankees were in fourth place. that's a pretty deep division.
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) 43-22, that's what is great about this year. but it's 43-22 combined with the fact the yankees, red sox and twins aren't what they once were. if the white sox were 43-22 at this point last year, i wouldn't be nearly as optimistic as i am now. btw, when does this ======> come in handy?
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 17, 2005 -> 10:51 AM) Last year I'd agree with that assessment. In 03 if they got into the playoffs they would have been a tremendously tough out. it's hard for me to agree that a team that didn't get in would be a tough out.
  25. For the past few years, I have always wanted the White Sox to do well. Win the Central, get the wild card, do whatever they had to do to make the playoffs. I didn't care. But no matter how close they were to the wild card or the division lead, I always knew deep down inside that they weren't going to win the Series. Think about it. Let's say they had to face the Yankees in the first round in any of the past three years. They weren't beating them. Argue it any way you want, they weren't going to the win the Series. And that always ruined everything. But this year, it's different. I look around at the AL, the top teams in the NL, and I honestly, truly believe that the White Sox can beat anyone in a seven- or five-game series. And it's a nice feeling. I'm not saying they WILL beat anyone who gets in their way. But this year, unlike years past, they COULD. And it's nice. It's not as though the regular season is just a way to kill six months before the Red Sox and Yankees play in the ALCS. Anyway, that's my random Sox thought of the day.
