  1. QUOTE (kev211 @ Dec 28, 2010 -> 11:26 PM) How awesome would it be if the NFC West team manages to win, and the 6th seed wins. It be NFC West @ Bears 2nd round. With Bears luck this season I wouldn't be surprised
  2. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 28, 2010 -> 10:21 PM) Oktoberfest and Winter Lager are the two Sam Adams seasonals that are consistently very good and the ones I make sure to try every year when they show up. If they didn't make it so hard to find Old Fezziwig outside of the stupid holiday 12-packs I would probably have that on the favorite seasonal list as well. i was lucky enough to score a bottle of Sam Adams Infinium this year and I am looking forward to sharing that with the wife on New Years Eve. Winter Lager is delicious
  3. QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 28, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) Wouldn't the student loans be differed until out of school? I assume then that you didn't have a car? I am leaning toward urging him strongly into a PhD program from the start, but he has his goals set on UT-Austin. Thats another thing, finishing a masters at one school doesn't mean all the credits will transfer to a phd program at another school
  4. QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 28, 2010 -> 09:52 PM) That's what I am believing, but what kind of support and how much would be considered average or usual? I understand tuition and fees being covered but what kind of stipends would be possible beyond that? What is a "typical" package a student could hope for? I am also looking at any books or websites that offer a decent overview, but so far too much "search overload". I am a graduate student in Industrial Organizational Psychology right now. I sound a lot like your son actually, I had a bad freshman year, really good final 3 years. I don't plan on going for a PHD however, as it is not necessary in I/O psych like it often is in clinical. Options for student aid that does not have to be paid back is usually in assistantships. These are usually for full year tuition or half tuition. They usually require research help for professors, teaching lower level undergraduate classes, and/or grading papers. Assistantships can be very competitive. Otherwise student loans are the way to go. I am taking out student loans for the majority of my education. PHD programs are much more competitive but they are MUCH more likely to pay for some if not all of tuition with an assistantship of some sort. Overall, I enjoy grad school for psych, but am baffled at how much school costs nowadays.
  5. The list has been well worth the wait so far. I kind of fear what is still to come. The only ones I have tried from the list so far are Smithwicks, Red Stripe, and Sam Adams Cherry Wheat. The only one that was on my list was Smithwicks. Cherry Wheat is a bad choice from the Sam Adams lineup, as they have much better beers. I'm sure there will be more Sam Adams beers on the list though.
  6. ESPN just has bad announcers in general. I find it hard to believe that they can't find someone better than Chris Berman for playoff baseball.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 23, 2010 -> 10:22 AM) Well, I had some doubts, but the updated version of True Grit was better than the original. I haven't seen it yet (and I can't wait to) but it is usually hard for me to say that a remake is better than the original when there is this much time between the original and remake. True Grit was one of my favorite older movies. You think they will remake the sequel "Rooster Cogburn" as well?
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) Listen. Their points on the Bears' offensive line were all dead accurate. It is complete garbage. They have adjusted well-enough to pull out victories, yes, but the Bears have had a lot of luck fall their way this season, be that with non-touchdowns vs the Lions or facing 3 non-starting QBs and getting half of the last game without Favre. Yes. The Bears looked surprisingly awesome against the Eagles, but that Patriots defeat was about as convincing a defeat as you will ever see on our home turf. Don't let national pundits get to you... that Pats loss was huge and stuck out like a sore thumb. Hopefully the Bears continue to improve, but their line is still really, really bad. Yeah but the only teams that really made the Bears look bad were the Pats and the Giants. The Giants were playing great ball at the beginning of the season as well. I think the Bears can beat any team in the NFC. Whether or not they will is another question.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 11:25 PM) Young just has some problem with the Bears. I don't quite get it. They don't reall draw unnecessary attention to themselves or have any really outspoken players or coaches. Yet he acts as if they are a bunch of jagoffs or something. Its probably just something in the water at ESPN. If the words Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Michael Vick, Tom Brady, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, or Lebron James aren't involved, no one at ESPN will want to talk about it.
  10. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 11:18 PM) He and Steve Young decided to tear apart Cutlers performance based on footwork. If he could only learn how to use his feet he might good like Trent I guess. LMAO Wouldn't be too bad if he was like Steve Young though...
  11. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 10:45 PM) I thought about that after I posted it. Yeah we might have to win out. We have the Jets and GB, while Philly has Minny and Dallas.
  12. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 10:42 PM) I wonder if they'll rest Cutler next week. UM NO...They still have a first round bye to fight for
  13. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 03:27 PM) Fun game to watch, but ending might not have been good for the Bears, as they would have the edge over Philly but not NY in case of a tie for a wildcard. Of course, if it comes down to a tie for a wildcard, the Bears won't deserve to get in anyway. Yeah but if the Bears win tomorrow and the Pack lose tonight (which they will) Bears clinch the division and would have the tiebreaker over Philly for the division seeding.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 18, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) Remember the game Jenks didn't get anyone out in Minnesota and blew a 3 run lead in the 9th? He didn't get a blown save in the game, just a loss. BS is a great abbreviation for blown save in more ways than one. I was at that game
  15. Those car commercials they play constantly during the Sox games with Dr. Andy. "We're taking it all off!"
  16. Watched the final Challenge today
  17. QUOTE (Ranger @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 11:05 PM) That was true. There were two offseason plans presented to ownership. One was to see how many parts they could dump, the other is what they're doing now. They put together a pitching staff that has very high potential and it would have been a waste if they didn't go all in this year.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 01:02 PM) Raw meat. Yep. On rye bread with capers, a dill spear, onions, and a little pepper
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) I thought John Candy was dead? Anyway, mine is pretty simple: A giant T-bone, a baked potato SMOTHERED in sour cream, 1 corn on the cob and green beans, a dinner roll and a slice of lemon marange pie for desert. Oh, and plenty of Tequila afterwards. In case you didn't notice, I only got the half slab of ribs
  20. I was just on Twitter. I think Mark Teahan is drunk tweeting...
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) On the radio they said that "volunteers" would be paid (kinda not a volunteer, but still). I'm sure there's more than a few folks who'll throw on a coat and make some quick cash depending on pay. Sorry I assumed that by "volunteers" they meant volunteers and not temporary employees.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 01:47 PM) Vikings ask their fans to help shovel out the stadium. If they were still in the playoff race I could see them getting a lot of volunteers. In the current situation however...
  23. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 12:00 PM) Lou Malnati's sausage pizza and a coke. That simple. Haha I had that exact meal for lunch yesterday. At least it wasn't my last meal I still prefer Gino's East although they closed the one by my house. As for my last meal: Appetizers: Steak Tar Tar and Oysters Rockefeller for Chef Klaus' Bloomin Onion from Outback Dinner: Medium Rare Filet Mignon Half Slab of BBQ Ribs Drinks: Mug of Spaten Optimator German Beer Glass of Middleton Irish Whiskey Dessert: Bananas Foster European Coffee
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 08:12 AM) I remember a year or two ago, he was trying to start a Farmers Insurance office somewhere in the south/southwest burbs, but I can't find the website he had up anymore. It's probably kinda tough to do that when you are spending all this time in Prague or Vancouver competing on challenges. Yeah I actually saw Katie bartending it Wicker Park a little over a year ago. I've always kind of wondered what these people do when they aren't on challenges.
  25. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 01:15 PM) I say we somehow tie this list to the proposed drinking outing in the other thread I started. You have to drink each beer on the list before you can leave the bar.
