QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 02:56 PM) No, I'm pretty sure the murder and crime rates in Logan Square are higher than where I live. And whenever I read about a murder in Logan Square it always involves gang retaliation. Since I don't plan on joining a gang in the area or selling drugs anytime soon I'm pretty sure I won't be high on a gangs' hit list.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) More strawmen, and I know you've made this argument in the past. Gun owners do not sit about fretting over potential crimes. They aren't action-hero wannabes with itchy trigger fingers and a gun tapped under the table. These are strawmen caricatures painted by the anti-gun side. Do you take no preventative or preparatory measures in your life? Do you have life insurance, or do you not want the extra stress of worrying about your death? Do you have health insurance, or do you not want to be bothered by the stress of possibly being sick? Do you keep a fire extinguisher or smoke detectors in your house? Why so paranoid about fire?!!?!!?! You do not prepare for things that have already happened to you; that defeats the purpose, and even more so when the stakes can be as high as life or death. I'll take the lack of any relevant statistics about the dangers of concealed carry as conceit. I guess I don't understand what you're preparing for by carrying a gun. Do random people in your area who are not affiliated with gangs get mugged and shot at on a daily basis? Is there a very high risk that you will be mugged or shot at? Getting a gun in case one of those things were to happen to you seems like overkill.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) Please cite statistics or provide a logical argument against. Personal incredulity is not a logical argument. What do you do to defend yourself if a mugger pulls a knife and the police are nowhere to be found? If someone breaks into your home while you're there? Those things have never happened to me at this stage of my life and I won't add extra layers of stress to my life thinking about it. I also haven't bought duct tape and saran wrap in case there's a terrorist attack but maybe I should consider it. Heck, might as well buy a parachute too in case my next flight is involved in a bird strike.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) These examples are ridiculous and extreme. And those are the 2 words I'd used to describe the idea of letting more people walk around carrying guns.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 02:27 PM) No, I live in a decent suburban area and I don't have a gun. Is there no threat of crime in the United States, or are police omnipotent? So you'd prefer everyone walk around with a gun on them? And what would really happen if a guy came up to you and put a gun to your head? Would you really have time to pull your gun out and defend yourself?
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 02:20 PM) Carrying a weapon is about being responsible for your own protection and well-being and having the proper tool available when needed. The police cannot always be around and are not there to protect you personally. Do you live in the Congo?

Sounds like the alternator.

I never went there but I was never in the market for circuitry.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 12:49 PM) I'm betting he wishes he didn't reget that offer because he's not as attractive as AJ Burnett, CC Sabathia or even Derek Lowe. I think he's much more attractive than any of those 3 guys.

Would you have contacted the police if this happened to you?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 12:26 PM) ^^^ Yeah. He probably doesn't even 'face' the paper currency in his wallet either.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) Why the hell would anyone put the roll where its coming out over the top? Because we are all normal.

We already all knew there was life on Mars. How else could you explain this...

I remember reading this a few years back. It blew my mind.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 16, 2009 -> 11:25 AM) This photo will be hanging all over the country for the next 4 8 years. I've already had it tattooed to my forehead.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) The FAA has issued a preliminary statement saying that everyone survived, so I now won't feel bad posting the Simpsons line that immediately came to mind. 6 Reported Missing in Hudson River Crash

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) Is this really necessary? At least make it a poll and turn it into a semi-interesting thread.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) Excellent and underappreciated movie. Indeed

QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) I think it would be cool if there were some soxtalk apparel that we could buy. I saw some limited things searching for it on google, but is it possible there is a bigger market for this? You try cafe press?

QUOTE (G&T @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) It's scary that a bird can bring down a plane. I always knew that was possible, but it's rare. The Edge

I think what you meant to say was "Who's a bigger fat ass?"
-
QUOTE (G&T @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 02:59 PM) CNN is talking to a passenger. He said everyone is alive. Sounds like they all got out or are getting out. That's great news. On a sidenote: I do quite a bit of traveling for work and every single time I am on the tarmac ready to take off I envision the plane going down. I'll probably lose 5 years of my life from that isolated form of stress.

QUOTE (onedude @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 02:59 PM) yeah...Hayter thought giving Snake a growly voice in MGS4 would add to him looking older. There's such a time disparity between each game release that I didn't even realize that he was purposefully doing that. I thought Snake sounded exactly the same as always.
