QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 11, 2008 -> 10:00 AM) Obama railed against lobbyists, and thier influence in campaigns. Iguess you can sleectivly not remember that, but every time it came up that someone doing anything for McCain was or is a lobbyist, that's all we heard about is how they will have no voice in shaping his administration. So how is picking this guy, who was a lobbyist and who's firm are huge lobbyists, to pick your FCC head somehow magically 'different'? Ok, he is ot a lobbyist 'now'. but he was, and his firm is. And he is nothign BUT a Washington insider, so again, how is that 'change'? McCain had advisers who were still lobbying while working on his campaign. Big difference.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 03:11 PM) ??? North Korea is communist/authoritarian, that's something altogether different actually. Socialist countries are like Germany and France. My point is that you keep qualifying that we are center-right by comparing us to European countries. That just seems arbitrary to me in this discussion.
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 03:11 PM) Yeah, that's a fallacy. This IS a center-right country, but it doesn't mean we are somehow predisposed to being Republican. You continue to state that we are center-right. What are you basing that on exactly? Is it just your opinion?
-
QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) Again, the center-right thing has nothing do with whether we prefer Democrats to Republicans, it's where we are as a country on the actual political scale. Compared to a full-blown socialist country the Democrats are still "right-wing." Which is why I laugh to myself whenever someone calls the Democrats socialists, that word has lost so much of its meaning. Why do you have to make a comparison to socialist countries? If you compare us to North Korea we're extremely leftist.

I concur wholeheartedly Rex.

Just saw Religulous with the wife. We both enjoyed it but we're blasphemers.

Of the last 30 Congresses, since 1945, Republicans have controlled the House for a grand total of seven Congresses. Seven out of 30. The 80th Congress, and the 104th-109th. In the Senate, the numbers are slightly better. Ten out of 30. Then there's this from Gallup:

QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 04:41 PM) Compared to Europe we are center right, most Democrats would be considered conservative there. But we just voted in the most liberal member of the senate into the White House. How can we possibly be center-right?

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 09:08 PM) Its like you said, if the shoe was on the other foot they would be up in arms. Theres no way theyre going to admit an Obama plan is bad. So what exactly is the plan? Do you have all the specifics?

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 03:38 PM) Armageddon makes me cry because its Michael Bay, Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, and the incomparable Steve Buscemi at their worst. Armageddon is exhibit B (Pearl Harbor is Exhibit A) on why a lot of film buff's hate Michael Bay. Armageddon was so re-god-damn-diculous that I expected Bruce Willis to be projected by the bomb into the air where he then grabbed onto the ship, rode it home, while screaming "yippie-kie-a-motherf***er" I wouldn't watch either of those movies if you paid me $50.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) I know a little, and just read a wiki about him. Kind of an interesting history there. One thing that stood out - he was the main sponsor of and introduced the 2007 global warming reduction act. He calls himself a Democrat-Socialists, caucuses with the Dems, but does not necessarily have a smooth relationship with them. He was a guest on Real Time with Bill Maher recently.

I'm such a sap that I almost become teary eyed at certain trailers of movies I haven't even seen yet. A few weeks a go I saw a trailer with Jamie Foxx playing a homeless man who was a violin prodigy. I almost lost it.

if you check out author Jana Kohl's site for her book you see that the slideshow will include a picture of Obama holding her rescue dog "Baby". There's another one with AJ, Jenks and Buehrle holding the dog.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) I would rather see people debating the merits of a bill before it passes, versus afterwards. Its good for the public to be educated about what is going on in their country. I think it is a healthy exercise in Democracy to have these exact kind of discussions. Maybe if more people did, they would be more willing to hold their elected officials accountable. This isn't even drawn up as a bill right now. He's not even the President yet.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 10:30 PM) The entire colonial time flashback seems more of the stunt a show in its 6th/7th season does when it's out of ideas. Seeing that there was just a presidential election I thought a show set in 1776 was somewhat appropriate. We're not talking E.R. here.
