  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) Wise and BA are not going to start or do anything except play once a week or come in the late innings. We have no good defensive everyday options in cf right now. That's not what you originally stated. You said we had no good defensive options in CF which is a false statement. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) You think they are going to play over Swish or Griffey?? No. Why would I think that?
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) I still don't understand how actually sitting out a game makes a guy fresh. It's not like the guy didn't take BP, didn't run, didn't do all the other things. He just didn't bat four times and didn't jog out to his position every inning and didn't run the bases. I'd love to sit down and talk to a major leaguer or 10 about this topic of staying fresh. I'd ask Oz but he's yet to answer my email. There's a big mental aspect to playing a major league game. You're out there for 3 hours focusing on every single pitch when you're playing the field. It could be 97 degrees and humid. It takes its toll over the span of 6 straight months; 7 if you include spring training.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 01:31 PM) They are options for CF??? No way in hell are they going to start. You stated that we have no good defensive options in CF. I think BA and Wise are pretty solid defenders.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 01:30 PM) I love all this talk of keeping fresh. Modern baseball, got to love it. Why didn't Cal Ripken wilt every season? He played every game. Why is he the only player in our lifetime that played so much?
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 01:28 PM) There are no good defensive options in cf right now. Really? You think BA and Wise are bad defensive players?
  6. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 01:12 PM) Im pretty sure that was sarcasm from SB, I dont think he meant that Indeed. I did find it odd that we had 3 lefties in the lineup against Robertson. But how could you bench Jr in his first home game?
  7. QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 07:19 AM) 90% winning percentage? You should make these threads for the entire month of August. And October.
  8. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 08:36 AM) he was filthy. hopefully the three innings of work will keep him in the pen for a night or two. I couldn't imagine that he'd be available tonight.
  9. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 07:37 PM) But we're home now. All our problems are over. Indeed.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 12:52 AM) Ron Gardenhire is so boring. His team has lost 2 games in a row that they should have won after being in first place for the first time in over 100 days (and effectively losing any hold they had on first place), and he's just having a ho-hum interview after the game "we tried our best, we threw everything we could at them, but they just pulled it out. Good hitting team even in a rough season, yada yada yada." He's a fantastic in game manager, but he just doesn't seem to be a motivator. Who's he supposed to be motivating in the post game interview?
  11. I'm going to get all Charles Haley and s*** when I see Griffey take the field.
  12. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) "Im gonna go Haley" Gives a whole new meaning to Haley's Comet.
  13. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:19 PM) Seriously though ridiculous logistics aside, what does happen when something collides with the sun? Basically nothing right?
  14. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) 7-6 HOU. Cub Killer C-Lee hits a 2 run HR off of Howry. Yay for former Sox dominating Cubs pitching. I was just thinking he was due to put a hurting on them.
  15. Well unless one candidate is up by 10% or more in a national poll I'll continue to completely ignore them.
  16. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:05 PM) Where's Griffey? *queue the Geoff Blum posts*
  17. Isn't he going to be sending in the calls and making the lineup anyway?
  18. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) Well, yes and no. I agree that in general national polls mean little, BUT they can be used for a few things. 1) You can see some trends. No doubt that after the McCain attacks that the poll numbers plummeted. Now that it is over, Obama rebounds. 2) They can be used to view the nation as a whole. Chuck Todd of MCNSB has this interesting analysis: While national polls largely mean nothing, they can be an electoral college indicator. A national poll lead of 2-3% translates to a tight electoral college race. But, a 5-7% lead is an electoral college landslide. Why not just study electoral college polls? Isn't that what ultimately will matter?
  19. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) To buttress that, it looks like while the "childish" McCain attacks might have worked in the short term, it didn't stick: Gallup: Obama +4 (Obama 47, McCain 43) AP-Ipsos Poll: Obama +6 (Obama 47, McCain 41) Note: the same Ipsos poll done in early June had a similar spread. So, not much shift. Sorry but part of the reason I posted that blog piece was to discredit national polls. What good are they for? They're about as relevant as the Clinton campaign's attempt at pushing the popular vote idea in the primaries. They ultimately mean nothing.
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 01:49 PM) Is there another team that's been around for at least 50 years with a worse 2nd best player in franchise history than the Sox? Probably not.
  21. At least we have a new euphemism for jacking it.
