The Republican Thread
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) At the same time, how many Obamatron posts would we have if McCain would have done the same thing? I think we should all do a better job of keeping perspective on these sorts of things. I've personally made a strong effort to ignore the frivolous b.s. that others bash McCain over. Am I perfect? No but I'm doing my best.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 02:12 PM) Just a thought, but shouldn't this whole stupid (IMO) argument be taking place in the Obama's Tour thread? I agree on both counts. That it's stupid and it should be in the other thread.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 12:58 PM) Nah, Obama is squeaky clean, McCain is a double talking asshole. You're finally catching on.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 11:53 AM) I totally disagree that the man is a bumbling idiot. He would have have accomplished all he has if he was truly bumbling and an idiot. I also disagree, although with slightly less enthusiasm, that he is being out"classed" badly. I think once the post convention campaign kicks off, he'll kick ass. This is just idling time. And depending on your definition of class, I believe he has led his life with a lot more class then most politicians. He was royally screwed in 2000 and stayed loyal to his party and the President. Even though he could have returned the screw job in 2004 and won the office for the Dems by joining Kerry's ticket. He may be a lot of things, but an idiot and someone who could be outclassed, no way. Speaking of class, many people are of the opinion that he was not very classy when he dumped his first wife for a millionaire.

Goin' to Vegas
QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) BUMPITY BUMP. Am probably going to stay in the Golden Nugget in the downtown area. For 2 people for Sat and Sun Night, we can get a double room for about $45 per person per night. Anyone stayed there before? It seemed to be the "best luxury hotel" in that area. Go for it. Golden Nugget it pretty nice. They revamped their pool area recently.

Obama leading big among Hispanics. So that's African Americans, women, young people, and now Hispanics. Is there anyone left? My prediction that the election will be a blowout electoral win still stands.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 12:31 PM) Obama should be running for the EU president - pretty soon, he'll be working the world to get elected... Oh, wait a minute, Germans can't vote for the US president, yet. *yawn* Perhaps he should do a tour of Central and South America instead.

CQ4MVP
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 07:53 AM) Seems like the guys who generally win MVP also have very strong finishes to the season. IF CQ has a monster August and/or September than he should win it. Isn't that part of the reason Giambi won it over Frank that one year? He had such a strong September? Well that and the HGH.

White Sox Winner!!
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 07:30 AM) I haven't, but for the people I know that have been there (I work with 2 Red Sox fans) they say generally the same thing. Fenway needs to be renovated or something. I'll agree with them. The seats are tiny and I felt cramped. I do like the overall charm. It's hard to hate on the unique dimensions and the green monster. Too bad the fans are annoying as heck but you gotta give them credit for being die hard. When I went I might have been the only person not wearing a Red Sox jersey or cap.

Obama Tour
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 08:17 AM) This is one of those things where the media starts running out of things to talk about and they start saying things just to fill space. I can't think of a single negative about Obama taking a foreign trip (ostensibly in his Senate capacity, and media coverage notwithstanding since that has nothing to do wit him) and getting to know world leaders. That is pretty much what's expected of him as president. If you already don't like him, then sure, you will find any reason you can not to like him, and I dismiss most of those opinions as irrelevant. But to anybody objective, why would you even bring up something like "is Obama getting too popular in Europe? Is he too close to the European governments?" If you were to re-word that, it would say "is he going to make our alliances too strong?" How dumb does that sound? I think we've seen what happens when we neglect our alliances and take them for granted. It isn't fun. I linked a blog post by Arianna Huffington in the Dem thread the other day that pretty much makes that same point.

White Sox Winner!!
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) We didn't win the division in 06. If we win the division I think he has to be the MVP(obviously this is assuming he keeps doing what he's doing), especially when you look at his clutch statistics and the way he absolutely carried the team the first two months of the season. He better help carry the team the last 2 months if he wants the MVP. When they vote for MVP most people will forget that he carried the team in April and May. Each month should be equal but they aren't when the voting occurs.

Perhaps the media is just as enamored with Obama as most of the nation/world is? Lets face it, even polling of Republicans shows little enthusiasm for McCain.

Obama Tour
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 10:03 AM) So, I haven't really seen it discussed here, but what does everyone think about Obama's tour in general? I don't recall a candidate ever taking his campaign abroad. For the older folks, has this happened before? It is very rare. You'd have to go all the way back to about 3 or 4 weeks ago when McCain did a South American tour.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 09:56 AM) I guess I don't see any whining or complaining, I see him stating the obvious. I think you're reading too much into it. Didn't the McCain campaign just release a new ad that complains how much the media loves Obama? Talk about the ultimate whining.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 09:41 AM) He should keep complaining about press coverage and do things like this. That should get him more positive coverage. Now that I think about it, maybe his now former adviser Graham was referring to the McCain camp as whiners and not the American populace.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 09:37 AM) Really? The bag tags being distributed to McCain's travelling pack of reporters this week. He should keep complaining about press coverage and do things like this. That should get him more positive coverage.
