  1. I know I'm in the minority but I feel that the 2nd amendment is completely outdated. I don't see why we need to own guns as individuals. It just doesn't seem like something a civilized society would require. I could see a case where hunting specific rifles were allowed but that's about it.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 08:55 AM) I don't know that the GOP is 90% white, but the voting #'s for blacks I believe is overwhelmingly democrat. 80%? in 04? The 95% I noted was an obvious exaggeration but I think you guys understood my point that the GOP is a very white party.
  3. QUOTE (Soxy @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 07:49 AM) Really? Where did you get that number? "Bigsqwert's Book Of Ridiculousness" circa 1988
  4. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 07:38 AM) For a party who likes to play the race card, it's pretty relevant even today. It shouldn't be, but it is. Relevant to whom? The Republican party is 95% white. If it mattered to minorities then why aren't they jumping over to the GOP?
  5. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 08:27 AM) You also might want to familiarize yourself with the history of the Democratic and Republican parties, and see which party has stood up longer for the rights of people of color. Do you know that Democrats opposed the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments to the Constitution -- abolishing slavery, granting citizenship rights to newly freed slaves, and guaranteeing the right to vote (at least on paper) to blacks, respectively? Do you know that most of the politicians who stood for segregation were Southern Democrats? Do you know that the Ku Klux Klan was founded by Democrats, one of whose goals was to stop the spread of the Republican Party? Do you know that, as a percentage of the party, more Republicans than Democrats voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964? Excellent reasons to vote republican in the year 2008.
  6. What's going on? Gameday has Ethier at first with no outs and still no score.
  7. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 08:18 PM) Big, we are on no ground to complain about invading other threads. lol I have been going out of my way to avoid the GOP only thread. I rarely look in there anymore. And I'm not singling out 'intruders' in this thread. I realize it goes both ways. *That's what she said*
  8. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 07:04 PM) The media just played the ads, they didn't say any of it was true. Oh well, hopefully baby Alex will be safe from the evil kidnapping John McCain. Kerry can come out and stab McCain in the back again too, "yes, John McCain steals little babies and sends them to Iraq. He must be stopped". Or maybe General Betrayus will chime in and defend John McSame. ah yes, good old politics. Is there any reason to have GOP and Dem only threads anymore? Half of the posts are snark.
  9. The "Douchebag of the Day" award goes to Dallas billionaire T. Boone Pickens.
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 01:24 PM) Holmes is in the locker rooms, talking to the athletes. He has the credentials to be taken seriously as a sports talk host. I like him. He just doesn't seem like a big market sports talk guy. Would probably be better suited somewhere like Kansas City.
  11. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) I stuck primarily to :30 situation comedies. Likewise. My list would have looked completely different had I included other formats.
  12. I found this on Obama's site regarding transportation. Perhaps someone can find McCain's stance.
  13. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) I've been itching for Metra / CTA to look into replacing the icky El and commuter rail to the burbs. This type of system would be for longer distance travel such as DC to NY or Chicago to St Louis/Cleveland. It wouldn't replace the El or Metra.
  14. Interesting article about maglev bullet trains in the U.S.
  15. http://liebermanmustgo.com/
  16. I must be a prude or something because i think there's a lot of crap shows on this list so far.
  17. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 01:31 PM) I dont know why you feel that way, I think Holmes is a pretty refreshing outlook on sports. He is usually right on point with the Bears, considering he hangs out with the players a lot. That is, unless of course the homeless man on the corner of your street is Mike North I've never been impressed with his sports acumen. He just seems like some 20-something know it all frat boy who's more concerned about ancillary topics than sports.
  18. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 12:03 PM) I'd be ok with that. I like Holmes a lot too. The homeless guy at the corner of my street has more sports knowledge than Lawrence Holmes.
  19. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 08:45 AM) A lot of people, on this board included, like to think the guy's perfect. I definitely don't think he's perfect but he's the best bet I've seen in a while.
  20. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 11:22 PM) I'm just pissed those Cubs games were worth way more than this series is. Really is a shame. It's called civic pride. Some of hate going to work and hearing it from the Cub fans.
  21. Suddenly that Newsweek poll doesn't look like an outlier. LA Times/Bloomberg poll shows Obama with a 12 point lead nationally.
  22. Was never a fan of his.
  23. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) You know for once I was agreeing with you and you still have to find something to mock. Amazing. My bad. I think I skipped over the line in parenthesis.
  24. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 12:51 PM) If you look at most critics lists of the top 10 comedy films, The Graduate is almost always there. It really isn't a drama, horror, etc. I have M*A*S*H at the top of my list as well, up until a couple years ago it would have been #1. Big fan of Becker?
  25. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) Bill Clinton 'committed to' Obama Committed to a fairy tale?
