Trent Lott resigning
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 07:07 PM) So, like a couple months back, Larry Flynt started dropping hints that his magazine had something explosive on someone in the Senate, and at least casually suggested it was a Republican. I doubt it's true, but hey, this is the internet, and the Filibuster to boot, so I can rumor-monger all I want. BigHeadDC, which as far as I can tell is one of those online gossip rag type places (and which has already botched "exclusives" in the past) , is trying to connect Lott's resignation to Flynt's statement through some male escort. haha, that would be hilarious, but i doubt it's true.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 04:42 PM) See, I don't buy that because the majority of these guys that are stepping down were in the minority pre-1994. It's not that. There's more to this deep within the Re-pube-licans. you are really big on pube jokes huh. just messing with you

QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Nov 26, 2007 -> 01:54 PM) Always One of My Faves "The three-liter didn't fail because it was too big, but because it was not big enough," Coca-Cola CEO Vic Hertner said. "With our new 30-liter size, that won't be a problem."

Are you f***ing kidding me?
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 25, 2007 -> 01:29 PM) Its nice in theory, but the repairs to the mass transit infastructure was pegged a something like $6 billion recently. It wouldn't even make a dent in what is needed. and once the work is done, the bill will have ballooned to about $20 billion

RP Yasuhiko Yabuta
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) That sucks.. I think he would have helped the pen... Yea, I agree. Our pen is in desperate need of some arms, this could have been a great pick up. It will be interesting to see just how much KC paid, if KW got outbid on a really (comparatively) small contract, thats bs.

Are the Sox too Cheap to Win Bidding Wars?
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 23, 2007 -> 04:59 PM) He was crying before the Bears drafted McNown that he had to be the one they drafted. A couple years later he's wondering how anyone could be stupid enough to have drafted him. Haha, I remember that. Mariotti is such an idiot, I don't even bother to read his columns any more.

sox looking at Crawford, Cabrera or Crisp?
The Sox are in no position to be trading away starting pitching, if we give up Danks, Gio, ect.... who is going to be in the rotation?
-
Jon Garland traded for Orlando Cabrera
I think he means who will be the last remaining player from the 2005 championship team, kinda like Butler was the last Bear hanging around from the 1985 team. oh, and I'll go with Jenks

Jon Garland traded for Orlando Cabrera
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 03:37 PM) ok, ive softened on this. I guess talent for talent O cab is a better player, but I really thought that pitching would bring back a better haul. Of course with another signing this may look really great for us. We shall see. Cabrera is definitely a good short stop and I think he'll be a nice addition to the team. What I am worried about is trading one of our starters when what looks to be our current 3-4-5, looked like this last season. Countreras, at his age, could be about done. ERA IP H Countreras 5.57 189 232 Danks 5.50 139 160 Floyd 5.27 70 85

Jon Garland traded for Orlando Cabrera
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) ^^^^^^^^^^^ Jesus, it's only November. And if some people read alittle more on this thread Kenny has already stated he's looking to trade Uribe which would make this trade look even better. I've already stated that I don't mind this trade one bit. I love O.Cabrera. It just sucks that we couldnt get back at least a spect (or two) But taking 12 mil off the books and getting upgraded at SS is solid. Kenny definitely has something else up his sleeve. This is soxtalk so I do expect overreaction and stubborness. I guess the issue is whether the upgrade at short was significant enough to justify trading away your number 3 starter. I understand that Uribe is going to be dealt, but I don't think he has very much value. Of course, the complaints are based on this trade alone and not taking into consideration future trades. However, the starting pitching staff has a couple holes right now, which is not a good situation. Having a really weak 5th starter is bad, having a gap in the 4th and 5th spot is really unacceptable IMO. The starting rotation and the bullpen have a lot work that needs to be done.

Jon Garland traded for Orlando Cabrera
haha, didn't Williams just sign Uribe to a one year contract? Oh well, at least we traded away one of our most reliable starting pitchers, thats always a good idea. Especially seeing how great Count was last season. Now get rid of Buehrle for Omar Vizquel and we.are.ready.to.pwn.all.teams.

The Wall
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) Well, in another 6 months...if you try to go overseas and buy something using dollars... you should only use Euros, balta. that would teach GW a lesson. Actually, the EU has been trying to get the United States to enact some strategies to raise the value of the dollar. They are getting kinda pissed, they think it gives the US an unfair trade advantage. They want the the Federal Reserve to raise rates. Another factor is that central banks around the world have been diversifying away from dollars, meaning there are more dollars out there in currency markets available to purchase. I thought you liked diversity?

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) Obama's Technology Agenda... http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20071...geekerarti.html Great read. Good move on Obama's part to get ahead on these tech issues. I really like the overhaul of the indentured servants program (H-1B visa), network neutrality, and national broadband program.

Are Democrats Ignoring the Surge ?
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 12:01 PM) even though this was of course a BushCo-caused disaster. Not completely. The dems voted for this war. Don't let them off the hook so easy. And yes, they would have mismanaged this war just as bad as Bush did. Nation building and being "world police" is a bad idea, and the Iraq war is an excellent example

DEM Primaries/Candidates thread
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 10:51 AM) A note about the supposed media bias... Looking at sites like CNN and MSNBC of the "MSM", Hillary Clinton's planted question issue has been high on the list of news items for days now, along with her declines in the polls, and her poor debate performance. All making her look bad. Meanwhile, this morning, the top banner "Breaking News" item on CNN was Thompson getting the Right to Life endorsement, which is a positive for him. Hillary is being probed heavily because she is high profile. That is what the media does - goes after the easy, high profile, well known targets. The other Dem candidates have been calling her out on the planted questions, of course the MSM will pick it up. http://apnews.myway.com/article/20071115/D8STV7C00.html Ok, so she is against licenses for illegal immigrants. let's see if the MSM says she's a racist, like they have been saying about the GOP.

Are Democrats Ignoring the Surge ?
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 12:47 PM) The drop in violence is indicative of a very, very important change in the dynamic, but not for the reasons that are being pedaled by the MSM they are barely covering any good news in Iraq. Something bad happens, yea, big news. Any news good for Dems = big news. News bad for Dems = ignored our barely mentioned.
