  2. QUOTE(JoeCredeYes @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:24 PM) I would not be surprised one bit if Thome was on the list. Young Jim He may have quit using in time though...
  3. From Rotoworld. Bwahahaha. At least we're not the Giants.
  4. I don't want Big Frank on there, and I don't think he will be. Thome, I don't think will be on there, but I seem to not have bonded with him as much as some on this board. If he were, I really wouldn't care. He won't be though.
  5. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:05 PM) Not a good time, but oh so true. I'll still take Javier Vazquez.
  6. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) CF Owens SS Cabrera DH Thome 1B Konerko RF Dye 3B Fields C Pierzynski LF Quentin 2B Richar that's what now. Wow, and Aaron Rowand in that lineup instaed of Owens would makes SUCH A HUGE DIFFERENCE. Come on, $12 million per for AARON ROWAND? Get real people!
  7. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) On the list of desired CF's, in order of preference... Hunter Fukudome Rowand Hamilton Ramirez Crisp Owens Pierre Yikes. Running out of possible improvement players. Josh Hamilton would be my number one anyways... unfortunately we haven't been linked to him.
  8. ... we sure can make a cat glow in the dark. South Koreans clone cats that glow in the dark. Yes. They did it.
  9. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) Given today's market that is a cheap contract, imo. Well, considering who was signed to it and a given regression toward the mean... that deal sucks nuts, imo.
  10. QUOTE(DaGame2584 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 03:16 PM) I heard he got 5 years @ 80 million. THAT'S CRAZY! Good for Aaron bad for the Giants & the rest of baseball. That will only drive up prices even more. Try 5, $60. And this really should be in Diamond Club with the rest of the Rowand stuff.
  11. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 02:48 PM) If that were the case, I doubt the Orioles would have gotten such a return. If anyone's on the Mitchell Report that's not named Bonds, he has the initials M.T.
  12. 5 year, $60 million deal. I never thought I'd see the day Rowand signed for $60 million. But if any team is that foolish, it's the Giants. Enjoy the .270, 15 homers, 60 rbi for that SF.
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 02:52 PM) It's a blessing, it really is. I'm as negative as it gets, and this is a positive for the Sox. ^^ that
  14. Wow. Now THAT is pretty surprising. I really figured he's sign with the Sox.
  15. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 01:47 PM) Never said they were, though last year would have been more interesting if Arenas and Butler hadn't gotten hurt at the end of the year. that was my whole point though, he hurts as much or more than he helps. However, that consistent 25+ points a game is still a lot to replace and their D is still suspect. If their only goal is to maintain their decent but not stellar level of success, then sure, Butler and Jamison and a bunch of decent but not stellar players can probably do that. But that supporting cast you rattled off doesn't exactly make up a true contender. Some depth up front would be huge for that team, especially if they could somehow add a legit starter that could help them on both ends of the floor. My argument is and was that they are a better team without Gilbert as currently assembled. I wasn't talking about adding a legitimate inside scoring threat or anything. They play better team defense and take much better shots without Gilbert on the floor.
  16. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) Its the Winter Hot Stove...what else are we going to do? Talk about how bad we sucked last year? touché
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 01:39 PM) Murton >>>>> Sweeney Gallagher > Egbert Petrick >>>>> Day Oh jeez, do you think these folks with their nonsense actually care about facts, fathom? God, Bedard/Roberts are not southside bound nor will they be until they are both 35+. Please stop with the proposals in every thread about something else people. Back to the discussion. Tejada = roids and we'll get to laugh about it tomorrow when we all finally get to see the Mitchell Report.
  18. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 01:33 PM) Eh, only the first two are consistent scorers. The other guys chip in their 7-10 here and there. That works if you want to get a 6-seed and maybe make it into the second round, not if you actually want to go somewhere. Yeah, with Gilbert the Wizards have just been dominating the Eastern Conference Finals and the NBA Championships...
  19. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 01:01 PM) They are playing better without him right now, but I don't think they have enough firepower to succeed long-term with that lineup. Gilbert is flawed, but he's still very talented and a guy that is hard to replace. If they let Arenas go they really need to add another capable scorer, ideally someone in the post that can give them about 15 points and play good defense. Most of the league is looking for one of those guys though. Yeah, a team with the likes of Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison, Andray Blatche, Antonio Daniels, Roger Mason, Nick Young, and hell even Brendan Haywood is really looking for offensive options. Caron Butler is so much better than Gilbert its not even funny.
  20. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) Who cares...this guy is way overhyped...or at least was. He was one of the best hitters in the game for the better part of 5 seasons... and played shortstop.
  21. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) I personally wouldn't give him a max deal anyways, though someone clearly will. He takes so many shots and hits at such a low percentage that he shoots your team out of about as many games as he wins you. He really seems to fit as the next Iverson or Marbury, a guy that puts up great numbers that doesn't really get you anywhere because he doesn't make the rest of the team any better and is disinterested on defense. I already stated over on TalkBulls that I think Washington is better without Gilbert in their lineup. Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison have played much better (especially Butler) without him in the lineup. Gilbert will get a max deal, and I'll laugh at the team that gives it to him.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 11:54 AM) I'm not so sure how eager Orioles organization is to acquire another Patterson. I'd have to say considering what they gave up the first time around worked out alright.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) Yeah, I don't think it's speculating that a lot of people believe Tejada is one of the prime candidates to show up on the Mitchell Report. Maybe Baltimore got rid of him before he lost even more value. That makes sense, but Houston got the same Mitchell Report Baltimore did... (unless Baltimore didn't read it and none of the teams have, only Selig and his boys?)
  24. More importantly, does this open up a possiblity of Juan Uribe to the Orioles? I want no return, I just want him gone.
  25. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 11:46 AM) I would say that I am less than impressed by the package they received. 24 year old 3rd baseman hitting .270 in the minors with an OPS around 850, 22 year old pitcher who probably is the most talented player in this package, soon to be 25 year old who put up a 1.60 WHIP and a 5.86 ERA in his rookie season in the NL Central last year, and a pitcher just breaking into the big leagues who'll be 27 around opening day next year, on top of Scott. Seems like the Orioles are just going for sheer numbers and not caring about actual skill. Well, having just read the Mitchell Report with other baseball executives, I'm sure the Orioles were more concerned about Miggy's roiding than the Astros. That just seems to me the most obvious reason for this trade. Personally, I don't see why the Astros would have interest regardless, but that's an odd organization down there.
