  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 09:34 AM) He's a slot receiver, his production is decent for a #3 considering he's never been in a system where there's 4600 yards of offense to go around. That's when he plays of course, as soon as he got the new deal he gets hurt every other week. There is not much to be gained in cutting him this year, though, at this point in the (off)season. The injuries are the entire reason this conversation is happening.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 09:23 AM) It's also incredibly easy to sit there and say "Yes everyone on the White Sox is terrible" while ignoring the absolute fact that it takes a ton of time to develop people and guys struggling is the norm. Josh Phegley was tearing the cover off the ball for months in AAA, to the point where even you were saying he should have been up a month beforehand because he was clearly ready. We're already seeing the "gosh I hate his approach what's wrong with this guy" posts. it took about a month and was the easiest thing to predict ever. If Garcia comes up and hits .220 for a month I fully expect to see him declared a failure as well, and people will say that Hahn never should have traded for a guy with that terrible, aggressive approach. You complain about the supposed lack of talent in the org...but being completely unwilling to spend the time to develop that talent is a huge part of the reason it appears lacking to you. You declare that no one will contribute and then you declare that you're justified because no one comes up and becomes Mike Trout. That's literally the standard you're going with; a guy isn't doing what Mike Trout did, he must be terrible and useless and the system is terrible. Well, Josh Phegley is a 25 year old getting his first crack. It makes sense that when he goes for a .565 OPS over 75 at bats with nary a walk and an OBP lower than his average (.200 vs .203) that folks might question whether he can be the solution. He had a very nice start to the season at an advanced age in AAA, we'll see if that carries over. There's no reason not to run him out there because the other option is Tyler f***ing Flowers. That doesn't mean the guy will be any good - and his track record save a very small sample size suggests Phegley will blow. Garcia is actually a "top prospect". He'll be given a leash. I defy you to find someone down on him if/when he struggles out of the gate. Good God, it took us 4 years to finally give up on Gordon Beckham.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 09:28 AM) You should probably narrow that down to hitting. The system spits out starting pitchers like it is going out of style the last few years. Plus there is still more on the way. Offensively, not so much. Yes, I do mean to narrow that down to hitting. This franchise is a pitching mecca. It doesn't even make sense some of the guys that come up and produce.
  4. Why do people lose all semblance of critical evaluation skills when it comes to the Bears. Everyone turns into a Cubs-fan homer. Earl Bennett's best season came 4 years ago when he put up a whopping 700 some yards. He never stays healthy - every time he comes back and plays a game, he's out by the end of the 1st quarter. OK, so he'll go over the middle? Big whoop, his body can't handle it. 0 717 561 381 375 Wow, what a f***ing stud. How dare I suggest cutting an unreliable player who puts up such massive yardage totals every year.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 09:09 AM) Take basketball for instance - a guy that's 6'8 is going to have an easier time dunking than a guy who is 6'4. It doesn't mean a guy who is 6'4 can't dunk. But can he dunk off both legs and does he declare himself 110%?
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 09:07 AM) Then why do you care so much as to defend that attitude? Your response makes no sense. I care that you seem to think that anyone down on White Sox prospects is an impatient, bad fan, when that's simply not the case. Just drop it - it's easy to sit there and keep typing "yay everyone go White Sox these prospects aren't all bad!" and hope that 1 out of 300 can come up and put up an OPS north of .700. Unfortunately, the fact is that the White Sox have by far the worst system - and there's nothing coming anytime soon save Avisail who was acquired last week.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 08:14 AM) Any white sox prospect who has not done this by age 21 is a failure. I love this attitude you portray around the site like fans have struck down young players on the Sox with legitimate upside. Just cut it out - there's very little worth caring about White Sox wise these days.
  8. Hopefully it's not ridiculously over-stylized like last year and they get back to the basics. No "kiss the baby" this time around for Cincy, but a lot more interesting players like Dalton and Green.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 04:58 PM) First of all, his stats in 2009 list him as playing 16 games, so you're missing a caveat. In the remaining seasons on his list, I see 14, 11, and 12 games. We're not talking about a guy playing only 2 games a year here. If you're flushing guys who have played double-digit games in every year of their career becuase they're too injury-prone, I think a lot of teams will be happy to rummage through your waste. Any actual Bears fan doesn't need to go look at the listed "games played" to know whether Bennett's been anywhere close to reliable the past 4 seasons.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 04:26 PM) Yeah, if you cut him, that'll teach him the lesson not to have a concussion. Or at least to toughen up and not report the symptoms. Ok master of the universe. I don't want to teach anyone a lesson, and I don't want to Dan Bernstein this into a discussion about concussions and meatheads. Earl Bennett was drafted in 2008, red shirted his rookie year, and has been unable to stay on the field for one season. Once he comes back from the concussion, something else will knock him out. He's a turd who must be flushed along with your holier than thou posting style. :-P

    2013 TV Thread

That video combined the best band going with the best comedians going and is now my favorite thing of ever.
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) Braves have a 12.5 game division lead on August 5. Last team to have a bigger lead on this date???? I'm going to guess the Braves before epic meltdown a few years ago?

    2013 TV Thread

I'm putting a Mumford & Sons video in the TV Thread on purpose. Watch the video for the payoff. My head explodes.
  14. You guys are going to have your minds blown here - but Earl Bennett is injured!!! I don't believe it! Seriously, cut this loser.
  15. I would have guessed he's a really f***ing awesome LOOGY but Every time he pitches he throws 1-2 innings and up to 4.
  16. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 08:06 AM) Have you seen this guy's numbers? 25 year old lefty: 34.1 IP 10 hits 1 earned run 11 walks, 42 Ks .612 whip .264 ERA I conclude that he should pitch more.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) Rangers Press Release 8/5/2013 3:22 P.M. ET Statement from Nelson Cruz I have been notified by the Commissioner of Major League Baseball that I have been suspended for 50 games for violation of the Joint Drug Agreement. I have decided to accept this suspension and not exercise my rights under the Basic Agreement to appeal. From November, 2011 to January, 2012, I was seriously ill with a gastrointestinal infection, helicobacter pylori, which went undiagnosed for over a month. By the time I was properly diagnosed and treated, I had lost 40 pounds. Just weeks before I was to report to spring training in 2012, I was unsure whether I would be physically able to play. Faced with this situation, I made an error in judgment that I deeply regret, and I accept full responsibility for that error. I should have handled the situation differently, and my illness was no excuse. I am thankful for the unwavering support of my family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time. I look forward to regaining the trust and respect of the Rangers organization, my teammates, and the great Rangers' fans, and I am grateful for the opportunity to rejoin the team for the playoffs. Go f*** him and his bulls***.

  21. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 01:49 PM) Len Bias died in 1986. In June. Ha! I can't believe no one else caught that. 1993 made no sense, but I didn't even think twice.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 10:09 AM) No one is saying you have to try and sodomize an unconscious girl or anything YES HE DOES
  23. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 03:29 AM) I'm not about that life. It'd be easier if I was.
