Should MLB allow a 26th man?
Eh, I think the 7-day DL for concussion like symptoms was a nice change to give teams more flexibility, but 25 makes things interesting.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 29, 2013 -> 08:42 AM) I wonder what this does to his HOF chances? He's never really come clean as to his start date, and no one talks about his positive test. Well, right now anyone who was busted and some who were suspected aren't getting in, so I'd say he wouldn't based on how these guys are voting today.

QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 29, 2013 -> 08:25 AM) I wonder if the Yanks could let A Rod go and not pay him. Nope. If they could let him go for using PEDs they'd have done it before last season. They're stuck with him and that contract until it runs out or he retires in shame and embarrassment.

Miami Steroid clinic thread
According to the Miami New Times, Alex Rodriguez is among the players linked to an anti-aging clinic in Miami which distributed performance-enhancing drugs. Big news. This clinic, run by Anthony Bosch, was reported over the weekend as being investigated by MLB and the Drug Enforcement Agency. The New Times were given patient records by an anonymous source and they suggest that Rodriguez was given HGH as recently as last year, sometimes under a nickname. Other current MLB players are listed in the report, including Melky Cabrera, Bartolo Colon, Yasmani Grandal, Gio Gonzalez and Nelson Cruz. Of course, Cabrera, Colon and Grandal have all been suspended for PEDs in the past year.

2012-2013 NFL Thread
Ex-Bears head coach Lovie Smith plans to sit out the 2013 season and return as a head coach in 2014. The Chicago Sun-Times reported the same thing earlier this month, but head-coaching jobs were still open at the time, so it wasn't set in stone. Smith apparently has no interest in the defensive-coordinator vacancies in Philadelphia or New Orleans, even though they wouldn't seem to have interest in him either. Smith will be 56 years old once the 2014 season rolls around. Lovie PJs.

Ventura stressing more contact and less K's
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 28, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) I know that this quote is supposed to be funny but it's off base. Dunn striking out a zillion times is part of what the White Sox paid for. It's the other guys. Even Viciedo hits HR's to balance out the K's. Beckham and Ramirez are the two worst culprits and they are adding Flowers to the mix. Beckham and Alexei don't offer enough power to strikeout as much as they do. It's not even the strikeouts as much as the outs. The White Sox have way too many outs in their lineup. Beckham, Viciedo, and Ramirez are just out way too often. It is impossible to have 3 sub .300 obp guys. While the strikeouts are tough to watch, I care much more about the outs committed in general. The majority of the board hates Adam Dunn but the reality is that he committed like the 3rd fewest outs on the team last year. I like your post here. Do it more.

Ventura stressing more contact and less K's
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jan 28, 2013 -> 11:03 AM) Why so low on Flowers? Are you thinking he won't finish the season as the starter? There's more right-handed starters in baseball than left-handed starters, and I just don't have much faith in Flowers. I have become a bit of a Sox pessimist due to year after year teases in the summer only to be disappointed come September. I just don't see Flowers as a guy who can hit consistently enough to warrant the ABs he'd need to get past 15 HRs this year, and certainly not 20. That being said, who the f*** else are the Sox going to throw out there? We'll see.
