  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) I dont work so I can go home, pretend im on top chef, then pretend on im on kitchen nightmares, so I can save $5 a day. Like I said, some of us find that enjoyable. Plus, there's a tv in my kitchen.
  2. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 01:33 PM) In ground beef especially, in my experience, the leaner you go, the more expensive you go. 85% lean is cheap, 92% is more, 96% is even more, and buffalo is like $7-8 a pound. At McDonalds, on the other hand, you can feed a family of 4 off the dollar menu for $8-$12. Someone who's happy eating the beef McDonald's cooks should not worry about only shopping for lean beef. BTW, you can cook off the fat of ground beef by straining and rinsing in hot water.
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 01:17 PM) $20 at mcdonalds is probably getting you 500-1000 calories per person. Thats a ton of food. The problem is that those people then go and eat more food through out the day, ending up in the 3k calorie range. If they actually just ate fast food reasonably it probably wouldnt even be a problem. Its just some people have either no understanding or no care about how burning calories work and the actual amounts you need to survive. A cheeseburger is 300 calories. That means for less than $10 you can get 2k calories. Fast food is all sugars and leaves people as hungry or hungrier than they were prior to eating mere minutes later.
  4. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 01:11 PM) I think we are just doing different math. 40 minutes of time, or even 30 minutes of my time is worth over $50. When you're sitting on your ass at home at night arguing on Soxtalk? I don't think so. Plus, cooking is/can be an enjoyable activity.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 12:45 PM) Oden getting ready to start his comeback. I'd love for the Bulls to take a shot at him. The odds aren't great, but the upside is massive. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8832157/...-career-sources There's no reason to waste cap room on him, he's a cripple.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 12:28 PM) jenks has deep insights to the day-to-day life of poverty So feeding a family McDonald's at $20/visit (assuming only one meal per person family of four) is cheaper than venturing into the produce section of a grocery store? GMAFB.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 12:04 PM) you going to feed your family nothing but salads every day? you going to be able to find fresh greens and whatever else to throw into it? afford half a dozen eggs or more for every salad if it's feeding four people? There's obviously things people can do, but you can't just ignore the different challenges people face. I didn't say every day. It's not hard to make sandwiches with buffalo sauce, or tacos with healthy ingredients, or to grab a .99 cent can of black beans and make burgers out of them. A 3 pack of romaine hearts is $2. Eggs are dirt cheap. One onion can be used in meals for multiple days. People just have to venture into the produce area instead of grabbing bags of processed chips and pre-packed expensive meals. Take 15 minutes one day and plan out the week's meals. It's not hard at all. But going to the drive through or ordering dinner is SO MUCH EASIER. People who say they don't have time to eat healthy or can't afford it are f***ing idiots. Same with working out - people choose what they do, and they choose to order in food and watch that extra episode of whatever. I don't want to hear about people with kids, either, because you can exercise at home without any equipment and get your sweat on quite easily.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 11:22 AM) There's a "time to prepare a meal" aspect, too. Making processed foods or picking up fast foods is quick and easy. Making a big meal from scratch, a little more difficult and requires more resources. Making a big ass, healthy salad with a protein source each day is not expensive nor all that time consuming. I can whip up a beast salad with three eggs on top in the time it takes to go to the drive through and order trash. People always have excuses for why they can't stay healthy - when it's not hard at all.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 08:14 AM) Got it ty
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 08:18 AM) oh I love those. Absolutely classic SNL The PenIs Mightier I'll take "The rapists" for $200, Alex!
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 09:17 PM) Some national media outlets (starts with E ends with N) were talking about if Cutler's NFC Championship fiasco had anything to do with RGIII going out there playing hurt. Absolutely stupid and ridiculous. You can't let what the media, some meatball fans, and players who think they're tough sway your judgement. Your entire career is far more important than one wild card playoff game. It's not the super bowl, it's not even the NFC championship. If RGIII was thinking about something like that, then he would have gotten hurt eventually. ESPN is unwatchable. If you crave NFL coverage, there's a channel for that. If you crave NBA coverage, there's a channel for that. If you crave MLB coverage, there's a channel for that. If you crave NHL coverage, there's a channel for that. ESPN is getting worse by the day. (EDIT: save NBA Countdown - best show on that channel that thankfully leads into actual basketball games)
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 07:38 AM) Does last night mean he had a setback? Well-played. In seriousness, last night's game was frustrating. It's time for Joakim Noah to eliminate the 18-foot jumper from his repertoire and get back to shooting 50% in some games. The team had a chance late, but Nasty Nate was out of control, and Marco missed a couple wide open 3's. That was a s***ty time to catch the Bucks.
  13. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 05:46 PM) IBM's Watson computer accidentally learned how to swear This made me giggle.
  14. (oh, and you might as well just move this to the filibuster right now)
  15. The current generation of children are the first in like 200 years that aren't expected to live longer than their parents. Kids are fat and eating processed foods and sugars and meats at a higher rate than ever before, with less exercise than ever before, because Facebook and video games and chat rooms. Lazy ass kids with dumbass parents.
  16. Sure, it's fantasy-based, but still a good read. link
  17. Oddly enough, now it appears the Maloofs rejected the offer? The Sonics just died again.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) In LA I assume? For the banner raising ceremony. I'd have to assume that game winds up on NBC Sports Network.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 01:37 PM) He should be, there is no question in my mind.
  20. The Blackhawks' opener is against the defending champ Kings on the afternoon of Jan. 19.
  21. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 01:09 PM) So I guess this means Nerlens Noel is going to be a Sonic. /conspiracy theory That's not much of a reward, unless it's extremely long-term.
  22. subname or whatever changed from "I'm fresh" to "development arrested".
  23. I'd be excited today if I were a Seattle fan, but the image above would taunt me forever.
