QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 01:24 AM) Alright, I saw it, read the reactions and I am so insanely disappointed with people's perceptions of this movie its out of control. Especially the opinions people have surrounding David and its motivations. You aren't supposed to get where David is coming from when he's doing what he does. His unwavering reliance and reason makes his motives impossible for a human to understand. Remember when Shaw tells him he'd never understand why she did what she did because she has a soul, and how nobody is really questioning Shaw's motivations of even Idris Elba's sudden willingness to sacrifice himself to save humanity? We get why the human's in that movie behave the way we do because we can relate to their existence by way of our own. We dont really know why the Engineers did what they thought they had to do or why David suddenly gets all nutty because their minds are not structured the way ours are. Also, it's a pretty good explanation of David's motivations. He was built as a tester, he asks Holloway if he's willing to do anything to learn more prior to putting the black stuff in his drink. That was permission. I think this movie is being shredded by people who aren't really thinking it through. There might be one or two "huh?" moments, but beyond that the movie explained things rather well.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 09:50 AM) I do realize that some people accumulated a mountain of student loan debt to get degrees that would take forever to pay off that debt...but didn't they know BEFORE they graduated the average of what such a degree would pay them and think about that? Yeah, but the alternative is being a telemarketer or flipping cheeseburgers or bartending. You can't even get a sales position these days without a degree. Also, at 18, you are thinking more about the fun you'll have in the coming years in college than about the repercussions of borrowing for a degree. These days, in most cases you just have to go to college if you want a rewarding position. It's not a choice.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 08:55 AM) f*** him. All his hometown teams have won titles in the last decade and now his adopted hockey team wins too? Stop attending all these games and put some more work in on your s*** website. (Yes, I know you were being sarcastic, but I had to add on to it) No, I agree. My opinion of Bill Simmons has really flipped since his new site and the quality of his work has dwindled.

Man, given my ties to the Cardinals, I really wanted this game thread. I guess no time is too early these days. Go SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOX! -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 10:38 PM) Dance party! Dear Lord, I'm kind of starting to like the Heat.

Congrats, Kings! I can't wait to read about how Bill Simmons' 10-year old daughter is so happy about this after she sobbed herself home when the Kings lost the last clincher and were only up 3 games to 1 at that point. Such a tough lesson in sports!

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 12, 2012 -> 12:17 AM) He's being an idiot. Go away troll. But don't pick on him in the NBA thread! The mods will come a-calling even though he troll posts there sometimes, too!

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 02:14 PM) LeBron has gone absolutely f***ing nuts. Doesn't make him any less of a dick for The Decision and the "Not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6, not 7" and "It's gonna be easy" speech/party. He basically acted like the NBA Title belonged to the heat. He made his bed, so unless he delivers titles, he's sleeping in it. I can live with this.

Since that pathetic loss to Indianapolis, LeBron is averaging 33.3ppg, 11.1rpg, 5.1apg, 1.1 3pg, 1.2bpg, 1.4spg over his last 10. He's at 30.8, 9.6, 5.1, 1.2, 0.8, 1.9 for the playoffs - 18 games. What a disappointment. What a choker. Last year? Ok, dog the guy. This year? You just can't.
-
How can you look at this game log and try to say that LeBron isn't single-handedly carrying that team? He's been great.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 12:19 PM) But it was gon' be easy and Pat Riley could play like he was at Kentucky because Wade and LeBron are all business and going to push each other in practice. Wade and Bosh have been injured. LeBron has put together historic performance after historic performance. He made a stupid, annoying DecisionTM, yes, but he's still been a complete motherf*cking monster.

Sergio Santos is the new Mike Sirotka. Sorry Jays. Sergio Santos felt renewed discomfort in his right shoulder after throwing a bullpen session last week. "Because of that discomfort, which can be normal for a guy ramping back up, we've had to slow him down," Jays manager John Farrell said. Santos has been on the DL since April 22 and remains out indefinitely. Casey Janssen will continue handling Toronto's save chances.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2012 -> 12:43 PM) Compared to how the NBA worships its players to the point that the refs call fouls based on how famous guys are, I would rather know less about Joey Votto and have a quality league. It's not like Joey Votto is hurting for money. My wife sits through baseball with me, sometimes. She shows genuine interest in Verlander starts, because he's the one guy who gets himself out there. MLB has one commercial that has Kemp, Paulie, Verlander, and McCutchen, among others, in it, that she enjoys and is engaged by. Rip NBA officiating all you want, but their advertising is bar-none the best. Your point is kind of off in the fact that this was a comment on marketing and not the credibility of a league's officiating. To use my wife again, she loves the NBA and the fact that she knows a bit about the players, be that what's given her via marketing or not. The MLB certainly could do well better for themselves by letting us see these players more and by promoting them.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 11:57 AM) OKC wins as Durant rips title of best player from LeBron's hands. These items do not have to go hand-in-hand. I have OKC in 6. The Celtics are half the team that the Thunder are and just took the Heat to 7, but the Heat will presumably have a more mended Bosh.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Jun 11, 2012 -> 10:23 AM) Not denying that being a vegan (or vegetarian; I'm not sure of their comparative health effects) is probably healthier than eating a ton of (especially red) meat, but this seems like it could be misleading. I'm guessing the lack of these things has more to do with a general healthier lifestyle, or at least the lack of bad non-meat foods (candy, trans fats, fried foods in general, etc.) than it does with just not eating animal products. But I also only read this one post in the conversation, so maybe I'm way off base and look like a fool now. EDIT: Read it all now. Less of a fool than I thought I'd be. It was just a reply to a post that decided to ridicule veganism for no real reason. More power to anyone who wants to eat whatever, but I think male vegans still have penises.
