  1. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:08 AM) The usual. Mark Gonzales ‏@MDGonzales Sox lineup: De Aza cf Beckham 2b Dunn dh Konerko 1b Rios rf Pierzynski c Viciedo lf Ramirez ss Hudson 3b Quintana p If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 30, 2012 -> 02:12 AM) http://www.suntimes.com/sports/12852410-41...hise-needs.html Wow, Morrissey really missed the ball on this one. $20k to cancer research? Who cares if the method pokes fun at the Cubs.
  3. QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 30, 2012 -> 11:08 AM) But say the Nets get the #1 pick, and they trade for Dwight and they re-sign Gerald Wallace. How much of a contender is a Deron, Farmar?, Wallace, Lopez and Howard lineup in the East next season? Given the state of the aging Celtics and the fact that the conference's best regular season team the past two seasons will be without its superstar, that could EASILY be the 2nd seed.
  4. Come on, he's just a college kid acting his age!
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 30, 2012 -> 10:51 AM) Well now thats too much work to go back and check. Steve, check your PM for more important stuff. And if Bowman trades Seabrook he will have my undying support. Yeah, trading Seabrook and Kaner would be pretty legit. The return is key.
  6. QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 30, 2012 -> 10:44 AM) And I could certainly see that happen with the Magic. Especially if Nelson opts out and moves somewhere else, and also Ryan Anderson (although I think it's likely Orlando re-signs him unless someone offers him more than 11M a season, then it gets interesting). If you move Dwight, you've got to move the likes of Redick etc., players with actual value, and just go for a complete rebuild IMO. Davis is going to take 2-3 seasons to develop at least (similiar to Dwight's career path really). Yeah, but what I was saying is if I can draft Anthony Davis, I'm not trading that pick to get Dwight. Also, Dwight won't re-sign with any of those teams. The only chance of a deal like this happening is if Brooklyn winds up in the top 3 (as stated in the article). Brooklyn, of course, would trade the #1 pick to get Dwight, because they'd also be ensuring that Deron stays, which is worth any draft pick.
  7. Its been two seasons since we've won the cup, so lets take a look at some recent cup winners and what they did the two seasons after winning: Avs, 99 and 105 points Wings, 110, 109 NJ 100, 101 TB 92, 93 Car 88, 92 Ducks 102, 91 Det 112, 102 PIT, 101, 106 Chi 97, 101 Your numbers are f***ed, because the NHL's points system changed greatly. The numbers prior to the Ducks can be thrown out, because at that point there were no points awarded for overtime losses and there were also no shootouts which guarantee 2 points will be awarded at the end of each game. What I see there, is the Hawks have been the worst performing post-Cup team in the current NHL point structure.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 30, 2012 -> 10:16 AM) None. Anything past #1 - Dwight time. That's instant NBA relevance for the bottom feeders. I would not trade the rights to Anthony Davis if I'm a rebuilding team that sucked enough to get the #1 pick - then it's Davis all the way and you hope you struggle enough in his rookie season to draft another stud with him.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 30, 2012 -> 10:31 AM) GM who wins a cup in his first season and then sees his team make the playoffs every year after that. Come on - that was obviously Dale Tallon's team. Name one acquisition that Bowman has made that worked out so far?
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 11:31 AM) I don't believe Viciedo will be worth the wait, too many holes in his swing without much development of patience. At best I see him as a 5-6-7 hitter, not the dynamic 3-hitter we had hoped. I think it'd be a good move to deal him before his value drops further (see Beckham). Oh, "Marty", this thread title is just hanging you out to dry everytime it gets bumped. *bump
  11. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ May 30, 2012 -> 07:02 AM) He went from "Whoa" to "Damn!" to "I never want to face this guy again" to "I want my mommy" in a span of about 3 seconds. That sums it up perfectly.
  12. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:42 AM) I worded this crudely. Sure, watching the team was fun during the first half, and the playoffs/WS were utterly magical, but the second half, particularly august and september, was utterly brutal night-in and night-out from a stress standpoint. I had more *fun* watching the 2000 team. 2005 - the entire season, was the most fun I've had watching sports ever. Of course, I was in my senior year of college and watching every game at the bar. It fell at a really good time for me.
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 29, 2012 -> 08:57 PM) The most fun I've had outside of 05 was that incredible streak in 2010. Now that was fun. This one feels a lot like that one. I was thinking about that earlier this morning - and how nice it is that the Sox aren't waiting until they're ten games out to go on a run for once.
  14. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ May 29, 2012 -> 08:30 PM) Despite the '05 World Series win, I had very little fun watching the '05 team during the regular season, as games were frequently nail-biters and low-scoring. the f*ck?
  15. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 30, 2012 -> 03:32 AM) I surely hope you aren't saying you'd rather have Gordon Beckham than Brett Lawrie.... I did not say that nor would I, I just pointed out that there are better uses for a time machine and that the writer could have made about one million other statements that would actually be valid and worth a read. QUOTE (kev211 @ May 30, 2012 -> 03:51 AM) I do believe he said that, and he backed it up with numbers. I love me some Brett Lawrie. The statement was just annoying because rather than give critical analysis the writer decided he was going to fail at being funny.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:57 AM) If his knee was truly F***ed to the point where he might never play again, the Sox would have been on the hook for $15 million in 2005. They woudln't have been able to do any of the moves they made (signing Dye, El Duque, etc.). That's why it was such a big deal for the Sox to have at least the same chance the Tigers got to actually examine his knee, and why it was so frustrating that he/Boras refused. It worked out for both parties. There's no reason to abhor Magglio. He was fun as hell to watch.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:17 AM) Oh my God there's a thread that got through 3 posts without Steve pissing someone off! So you admit I pissed you off? My work here is done.
  18. But the Hawks are more than just disappointed in Kane. A team source told the Sun-Times that some in the organization have suggested that Kane seek help. “He’s obviously got some issues,” the source said. “How many more times can these things happen? It’s a much bigger thing than some photographs in a 48-hour window.” Yup. Just a college kid doing college things. No big deal.
  19. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 30, 2012 -> 06:51 AM) Someone here was on Bowman's nuts as a GM. Can't remember... (Rock?) I still think he is terrible. Only time will tell on his drafting and what leaks out who was responsible for who. (I.E. Shaw being a Bergevin pick/plea etc.) Unless he really makes noise July 1st, he and McDouche (who hired an accountant to make hockey decisions) are gonna get alot of criticism. I called for his firing this season. Rock is the ever optimist, so I would imagine that was him.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:01 AM) Already noted several days ago. OH MY GOD SOMEONE VIOLATED YOUR FORUM PROTOCOL OF READING EVERY THREAD AND GETTING INTO ARGUMENTS WITH SS2k5 IN SAID THREADS.
  21. The problem, it seems, is not Hawk. The problem is Stone and Hawk together are a huge fail. Wimpy with Hawk has been great. Now, let's all remember, as well, that the Hawkeroo is at his best when the Sox are winning, and they have won 7 straight.
  22. QUOTE (nhsamtmcspnut @ May 29, 2012 -> 04:37 PM) meow But it was a damn good post
  23. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ May 29, 2012 -> 04:46 PM) From ESPNChicago's White Sox report: ESPN just blazing trails today. Konerko won't hit .399 this year. Way to go, guys! You just blew my mind with that analysis.
  24. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 29, 2012 -> 03:37 PM) Bernstein says the organization has reached out to his parents to help get him under control, and his dad is an ass and loves his drink just as much as Kane and has no desire to slow Kane down. He's just a college kid! It's no problem! DRINK DRINK DRINK
  25. That article blows. Brett Lawrie OPS - .677 Gordon Beckham OPS - .644 Brett Lawrie May OPS - .649 Gordon Beckham May OPS - .763 Brett Lawrie's flash in the pan rookie season - 43 games Gordon Beckham's rookie season - 103 games It's as if these morons don't even watch baseball games. They just remember Lawrie was a big-time fantasy sleeper being overdrafted in leagues, and pay no attention to what's actually happening on the field. I mean, COME THE F*CK ON, PEOPLE. Beckham is a great glove at 2b, and much younger, and playing quite well. He has a .644 OPS this year with that plus defense, while Hudson has a .593 OPS. Go away, everyone at ESPN.
