QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 04:35 PM) Also keep in mind that there was no 3-second rule in Jordan's day. Bigs could just camp out in the paint all game (especially against teams without a good scoring center) and go for blocks. I don't have my head so far up Jordan's ass that I think he'd average 50 PPG or something. Only thing I see suffering a little is his overall shooting percentage. Besides that? Please. He'd score 40 ppg, I do truly believe that. He'd probably average 20 free throws. Those would be some long games.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 04:22 PM) Living in Michigan for 5 years and having to deal with all these Red Wings fans really sucks. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/p...310974659_n.jpg This was posted on my wall this morning by a Wings fan and it boggled my mind. He's a 19 yr old on the hockey team and he did it to kinda rub it in my face as a Hawks fan. The first thing I thought was "They've won 4 Cups in 15 years and have been pretty damn good." Then I said, thats f***ing Hank Zetterberg. Dude has as many Cups as Toews and Kane do, WTF. Then I thought about it some more and realized Wings fans are just a bunch of f***ing idiots. For 15 years, they've been perennial contenders. They've had one hell of a run, but this Hockeytown BULLs*** really upsets me. They "sell out" every game but the Joe is 3/4 full at best most nights. They trail the Canadiens in Cups by 13 and are 2 behind TOR too. In my lifetime (22), they've won 4 Cups. However, people my age have probably only really gotten to enjoy TWO as really true, engaged fans. 02 and 08. That'd make them 12/13 and 17/18. They've been good for as long as they've been alive though, which obviously makes them think that the Red Wings are god's gift to hockey. Every time I get into an argument with one of these people I get "We won 11 Cups, Hawks have won 4. LOL you suck. Yzerman!!!!!!!" and it infuriates me. You need to learn to not listen to idiots.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 04:31 PM) WRONG MJ would take a s*** on Wade. Shaq>>>>>>Howard MJ would mindfvck the mentally weak LBJ Shaq was definitely more talented than Dwight Howard. It's too bad he didn't keep himself in shape to be the best.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 04:18 PM) Sorry, i'll take 6'6" 215 lb Jordan. CLEARLY a superior physical specimen. LOL. I know it doesn't need green, but someone's going to misinterpret this.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 04:11 PM) OK come on now. We're going to the other extreme with this argument. We're closing in on "Ditka 110, Packers 3" territory.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 04:09 PM) The NBA saw to it that we'd never see another '04 Pistons team again (thank god for that by the way). Preach.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 04:02 PM) I have no idea how you can make this statement with a straight face. MJ would absolutely destroy in this league. The rules were far more beneficial to defensive players in that era and he still lit it up. The players were more physical and in my opinion better defensively as well. He's abandoned the thread due to shame and humiliation.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 04:00 PM) SS2k5, I would love to see you list 5 current NBA players who are on Pippen's level defensively. He's going to tell you that Ronnie Brewer would be better than Pippen in today's game. HE'S OLD HE KNOWS THINGS.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 03:54 PM) Isn't Nash an unathletic white guy like Cousy? Nash is pretty damn athletic.
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 03:46 PM) WAIT, WHAT? MJ wouldn't be as good in today's NBA? Um, he'd average 35 free throws a game. He'd be BETTER in this NBA. Handcheck rule. Period. ss2k5 would like you to know that you are wrong bc you weren't born 20 years ago (his words, not mine). apparently, i also was not born 20 years ago.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 03:41 PM) And in todays game, his length and quickness would be nothing special. Most teams have a guy with those type of dimensions (though probably better built) and quickness. Yes, you are right, muscles did not exist until 2005.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 03:32 PM) Did somebody just imply that Bill Russell could play in today's NBA? That's blasphemy and preposterous. What's next? That fat, out of shape, porker Babe Ruth would rule the game of baseball like he did when entire teams were hitting 20 HRs and pitchers topped out at a 2006-Freddy Garcia like 86 MPH on their FB? Bill Russell played when there was no athleticism, everybody, even point guards, dribbled with only their strong hand, everybody was built like Wite, everybody shot in the low 40's percentage wise, and everybody played at a clown pace. Bill Russell is not even as good as Sabonis. Now there's always room for interpretation. You've got some guys who were good for their time. Then you've got Wilt, Magic, Michael, Shaq and LeBron. They'd be good ANY time. But just stop with Bill Russell. I can't take it anymore. I don't know if anyone said that, but I kinda skipped over the long post with heights of players because comparing eras is silly. I talked about cloning Bill Russell, but still disregarded the idea. You should just post a webpage somewhere with your feelings on Bill Russell and just add a link everytime the idea comes up so you don't have to re-type that over and over, lol.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 03:19 PM) I would agree that MJ wouldn't be AS good in today's game, because I agree with SS2k5 that there are more of the faster/bigger/taller guys in the NBA that could keep him "in check." Yeah the Deng comment was dumb, as Pippen is a good counter. But I think you've got a lot more of those types in the NBA now than you did back then. I still think MJ rules the league though, just not to the same degree of dominance he displayed in the 90's. He'd be like Lebron, only with the competitiveness and drive to win and not puss out in the final 12 minutes of the game. See, this I could deal with, but SS2k saying Wade is better than Jordan in almost every facet of the game was just mindless. And yeah, the Deng comment. Sheer genius.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 03:12 PM) Right because you were even born 20 years ago. Just because you're a dinosaur doesn't mean everyone else is stupid. I turn 29 next week. I've been married for 5+ years. I have a dick. I grew up with 90s NBA. I consumed it. I was addicted to it. I do enjoy the fact that your argument is so lame that you've decided to drop the "you weren't there" argument on someone who very much was.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 03:09 PM) Well no s*** sherlock. The game changes more in 50 years, than it does in 20... imagine that. Fanboys will never admit MJ as anything other than the GOAT, which is why this discussion won't go anywhere. You just seem to have little to zero knowledge of the NBA 20 years ago then. Congratulations.
-
Comparing 1992 to 2012 is a HUGE difference from 1962 to 2012. Dude. I can't even bother to argue with you. Your stance is too moronic. Michael Jordan would absolutely rape the NBA today. Eliminate handchecks and he'd drop 40 a night with little effort. Just. Stop. Please. "Defenders like Luol Deng didn't exist 20 years ago" Jesus f***ing Christ. Scottie Pippen should slap you in the face.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 02:48 PM) Honestly, pretty much everything except dunks and probably defense. You are on drugs.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 01:14 PM) In 20 years they'll be saying that about Jordan, there are basketball forums I go to already arguing that, saying he didn't face the kind of athleticism and size in today's NBA...that's bull. Well, that's just silly because Jordan would simply skullf*** these idiots today.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 12:52 PM) Which "one?" I made three separate points there. You've asserted that the market simply would have found a way, that an unstructured liquidation of GM and Chrysler was impossible. There's no contemporaneous support for this position. They wouldn't have gotten any terms from anyone else.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 12:57 PM) I really hate the argument that because x player played in a past era, and if you stick them in today's era, they would be a scrub. If that's the case, why have a HOF for players before, say 1980... Jackie Robinson, Jim Brown, Oscar Robertson and Dick Butkus suck!!! Sweetness, you barely made the grade...SMH. You seem to not understand. You can only grade players on who they play against. Those arguments are all silly. You simply cannot compare players across eras. Competition breeds talent. The game has evolved. Yes, if you stuck Bill Russell in a time machine, transported him to last night's Bulls/Celtics games and said "go" he'd be f***ed. He wasn't privy to the sports medicine and training of the day, and certainly to the speed of the game. If you cloned a baby Bill Russell and let that little science experiment grow up in today's world, competing against better and more frequent talent day in and day out, playing in college, then the NBA, then he COULD dominate. However, there's no guarantee that everything goes right. Seriously, there are SO MANY VARIABLES that go into that discussion. The only discussion worth having is "did he rise above the competition in his era". In the case of Hall of Famers, that most certainly will be the case.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 12:02 PM) Do we really need a thread on this? I'm tempted to Diamond-club it. He's not the White Sox hitting coach. This is unrelated to the White Sox. I missed a chance last week to actually meet him and Heyward in person, they did an appearance here that I found out about later. Please move it to DC.
