QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 01:19 PM) All this talk of Loves Park makes me chuckle. One of my best friends from college grew up in Loves Park and went to Harlem. I'll have to ask him about Oregon Trail. How old is he?

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 01:15 PM) You must be younger than me then. Machesney was Franklin Jr. High when I was in school. Born in 83. It was converted when I was like in 3rd grade and I moved to that school cuz I were smartz.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 02:04 PM) Do you want him to come out and say who they are hoping to hire? I want him to not sound like someone completely unprepared for what's to come... sadly, that's what he is, though.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
Robin sounded so f***ing clueless in that interview. Lawrence: "Do you have any idea what you're looking for in a staff?" (clearly talking about coaching) Robin: "Well, it'd be really easy to say I'd like 25-game winners." After Robin goes on for 3-5 minutes about wanting good pitchers, and wanting Mark Buehrle back, Law tries again... Lawrence: "Have you given thought to who you'd like to have on your coaching team?" Robin: "Oh well, that's something Jerry, Kenny, and I will have to discuss." GMAFB

KW: Joe Cowley a Liar
I hate that Cowley has turned himself into the story. AGAIN. This is his dying breath as a White Sox columnist in this town. His gravy-train is in Miami, and the only stories he'll have to tell will be stories of the Ozzie-days, including this one that he "broke" today. Either way, this organization is becoming more of a joke by the day. We all knew the Ozzie divorce wouldn't be pretty, but really, the house should have been cleaned, Hahn should have been promoted, and Hahn should have made the hiring decision. This becomes more clear by the nanosecond.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:36 PM) Holding players accountable and making them act more professional while supporting their teammates is already a good start. All of your evidence that he'll do this is absolutely spectacular.

White Sox Bench Coach Search Thread
As long as they have zero experience, they are qualified. Said player should also speak Spanish and have zero interest in the media.

More excellent arguments to the fact that managers indeed do absolutely nothing, which seems to be the only argument on the side of those who agree with this hire.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) I want to know that how, in your opinion, does Ventura not know how to handle a big league club after playing 2,000 games in a big league clubhouse? Is there some magic that happens once you move into a minor league manager's office that we dont know about? Does coaching 3rd base like "Wavin Wendel" give you some ridiculous insight into the psyche of major league ballplayers? I'd prefer the new incoming manager, after many years in a row of disappointment, to have done something more than be a volunteer high school hitting coach. I'd like to see some sort of passion for the game. I'd like to see someone who didn't make it a point to get away from the game. I'd certainly like to see someone who had better things to say about the position than Robin did yesterday. Ventura said he had had no thoughts of managing and that thought he eventually might ease his way into coaching after accepting the minor league position last spring. Well, fantastic. Even he clearly admits he didn't expect nor is ready. ‘‘It took me aback,’’ Ventura said. ‘‘I was not expecting that conversation when we had it.’’ Awesome. Way to take the reigns. You weren't expecting it because you aren't qualified. The fact that Ventura basically said he only accepted the job because he'd be close to home most of the time annoys me. This isn't his job, it's going to be his hobby. He doesn't seem to be jumping in with both feet. He's apprehensive as f***, and I wanted a manager who truly aspired to... manage F*CKING BASEBALL GAMES.

The morning after poll
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 11:09 AM) You guys can keep trying to misconstrue the argument all you want, be so far no one has shown me a correlation of experience = results or no experience= no results. You bring up Joe Girardi, at what time does a guy get enough experience? What is your magic number, 1 year, 5 years, 20 years? The argument is that experience alone does not make a manager (neither good nor bad). I personally think the hire was an out of the box move, it remains to be seen whether it pays off or not, but I feel hes a huge upgrade to Ozzie, and I prefer him to Martinez/Alomar as well. Jesus, put the pom-poms down for two seconds.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 11:01 AM) True, but I do think it's pretty valid to assume a more disciplined organization with ozzie gone. Yeah, even the circus this morning is directly relating to Ozzie. I look forward to a time when he's been long-gone. We all knew Cowley would be getting some "scoop" whenever a hire was made.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 10:55 AM) The dysfunctionality of the White Sox under Ozzie getting exposed. Great! Have fun Loria and Marlin fans....and good riddance to Ozzie and his entire circus of a family. It's unfortunate the other half is still here making "bold" decisions hiring gutty guys like Ventura with no experience nor idea how to handle a Major League ballclub.

Cowley will be on the Score at either 10:40 or 11:40, I am not sure what I heard.

The morning after poll
Sleeping on it did nothing to make me feel better. In fact, I think it's entirely bulls*** that this organization thinks so little of their management position. I hope I'm wrong, but I could see Robin stepping down within a lost year.

Catch All Anything Thread
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:04 PM) Anyone know how long Chicago Animal Control will hold a dog before it's put to sleep? My dad brought our dog in anonymously early on Tuesday. I was unaware until a few minutes ago that he was brought to CAC, as I was told that he was flat-out put down. So, I and my siblings had come to grips with the loss of the dog, and now I find out that he's likely still alive. The problem is that I don't have the room for him and he's been having accidents during the night. Admittedly, the accidents are mostly due to my siblings still in the house forgetting to let him out at night. My dad didn't tell any of the family that he was putting the dog down, just did it. It sucked, but I felt like there wasn't much to be done about it. It was already done and I took comfort in the fact that he was brought there by a member of the family. Now, I can't help but feel terrible that he's probably just sitting there in a cage confused and scared, with a clock simply counting down the last few days and minutes of his life. That's f***ing bulls***. Go save that poor pooch.

2011-2012 NHL Thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 03:09 AM) What do you think of the Hawks' goalie situation? How did Crawford play in the preseason? Is he an elite goalie or not? Do we still have a veteran backup? Where did last year's No. 2 go? Greg, Marty Turco was last year's #1 to start the season and quickly usurped by Corey Crawford. He now works for NHL Network! I never had much faith in Crawford, but he won me over with steady play. Goaltending remains a question mark simply because no one anywhere expected Crawford to be this productive between the pipes, but the Blackhawks look much better on that front than they have since the days of Eddie Belfour. Our backup, to start the season at least, is Ray Emery. Emery took over for Jonas Hiller who had vertigo issues last year in Anaheim, and was simply brilliant down the stretch (.928 save percentage), playing 10 games for the Ducks to finish out the year. The Hawks chose him over Salak simply because he had a 1-way contract, while Salak can use the seasoning and get every-day work in Rockford with the IceHogs without having to clear waivers. Speaking of Salak, he's the organization's first legit goaltending prospect, and was acquired in possibly my favorite trade the Hawks have ever made... sending of Jack Skille and two dudes I don't care about and receiving Michael Frolik and Salak. Hopefully he's as good as advertised, and he sure looked awesome in the preseason. #1 - Corey Crawford #2 - Ray Emery #3 - Alexander Salak This is the most excited I've been about goaltending in Chicago in a very, very long time.
