QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 06:52 PM) Critic, you probably saw more Detroit games than I did last year -- do you remember who Lang's linemates were last season. And also, your thoughts on the signing? BTW, they're reporting the deal as two years, eight million which is probably too much money. "He played mostly with Samuelsson and Flippula, significantly less talent than Havlat and Sammy or Ruutu."

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 07:54 PM) Is Handzus better at 4 mil then Lang? Lang's better at 2 years than Handzus at 4, that's my take on it.

It also puts Toews to the 2nd line and YP to the 3rd/4th, which I'm all for. Having YP or Toews at #1 just would be too damn ugly to watch all year, and could hurt Toews' growth. 2 years is workable, though i'd like to know the monetary terms. Everyone knows it's a stop gap, but that's fine with this team. I can live with this, certainly. I wonder if he's still looking to sign a 2nd tier dman with the (presumably) extra money we have left? Like Keith and I were talking about today, with Lang, YP in the fold, if everything goes according to plan (no huge injuries, Kane/Toews contribute pretty well), you will have a Hawks team that is not only in a rebuilding phase, but will be right there til the end as far as the 7-8 playoff spot is concerned. I'd welcome that after the past few years.

Tallon sets deadline for Handzus deal: tonight http://blackhawks.nhl.com/team/app/?servic...rticleid=326986 Can't say I blame him. We'll see what happens. Also of note, Keith and I were at prospects camp, however Kane was a no show. Something about him being late after his physical at the UC or something, it's not quite clear yet.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 03:20 PM) I'm safe to meet up with. I've put only 3 posters from here in the hospital. Only 3 posters, but I've been in there 6 different times. Don't let her fool you people.

It appears all of our eggs are making their way into the Handzus basket.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 10:19 AM) Anyone catch "The Show" on INHD? About the D'Backs, but a lot of Chris Young stuff in Tucson then making it to the majors. Good stuff. It's on every Wed at 9 I believe. I've recorded all (5?) weeks thus far. It's quite entertaining.

I f***ing hate new york.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 05:40 PM) Tallon is in a bit of a tough spot. Most of these guys are getting (or will get) more money and years than they're worth. The years is actually more important than the money -- I could live with the Hawks overpaying for a guy for two years (maybe even three), but when other teams start tossing around 4-5 year deals, what's Dale to do? That's why the Zus thing could blow up. He's 30 years old and is coming off of a major injury and surgery -- if you sign him for four years and he ends up going all Adrian Aucoin on you, the Hawks are again in a tough spot. Anything for three years or less I'll generally be happy with, but if it turns out that these pretty-good-but-not-great players are getting more years and money than that, the Hawks might be better off taking it on the chin again and just play Toews on the first line. I agree with you Keith. And I like this signing - one year only, and it's only 1.5. That's not much at all for someone who will contribute in spots this year. I'd just like to have a #1 or close to #1 center so YP or worse yet Toews has to be thrown up there. That wouldn't be good for his development IMO. And if Dale doesn't like what's in the FA market, he's going to have to get something done via trade - and again like you said, trade for some sort of decent contract. I still hope Nylander is on Tallon's radar in the FA pool, for one.

How stupid is this 32 man "Who's Now" tournament that ESPN is running? I really miss the early-mid 90's when they covered the actual games.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 03:57 PM) He's a good faceoff man, but not the top six center the Hawks need. I can live with him on the third line. This better not be Dale saying "here's your #1 center," there has to be something else coming. If so, it screams Arkhipov all over again - he talked him up mightily when signed, but he was nowhere near Dale's expectations.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 03:59 PM) Interesting. I wonder if Nylander is still an option? I mean, is it a lock Williams makes the club? Should be. There's plenty of fat to trim before you get rid of Williams.

Unrestricted free agents can be signed starting at 11:00 am today. Latest on Handzus, Sassone says could be a Hawk before he becomes a UFA (6/30 article). http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/story.asp?id=327604 I expect at least one "2nd tier" center and one pretty decent defenseman. We'll see what happens, but I don't see us even getting close on Drury, Briere, Gomez. That really shouldn't be Dale's focus anyway. Let's see what the next 2-3 days bring us.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 08:49 AM) Bottom line is that I've been on this site since two days after it opened, back in 2002. Jason and I are friends not only on this board, but in real life. He supports what I do and I appreciate him helping me get things off of the ground. I don't understand why you guys are so bothered by this. If you don't like it, don't read, it's as simple as that. There's no reason to even say anything else about it. Move along, the complaining is getting old. It's billed as a site for "big ten fans" when really it's just for IU fans, as it's an IU blog. You also posted about 'good stuff' on recruits in the recruiting thread, yet it was complete baiting garbage about Weber. I thought we were supposed to stop the Illinois/IU pointless b****ing, yet that gets posted and pinned. You know I like you aboz (and no, i didn't know this was YOUR blog til someone said so yesterday), but it seemed like you were just trying to get after 'us' with the above combination.
-
I like the Koci signing. We need someone to enforce out there, even if not dressed every game. He just needs to learn when to fight, more or less. I'm going to try to make prospects camp Monday and maybe one of Thu/Fri perhaps. Let me know which other day you get off.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 09:30 PM) Dude, what the hell is with you lately? If you feel like you need to have the opportunity to put in a dig every chance you get, then maybe you need to not post in a thread. I like you a lot around here, but you're just pushing things a lot lately. Go easy, or easy go, however you want to look at it. Well, I don't really know why an IU blog is pinned at the top here, in it including pure garbage about Bruce Weber "losing" a recruit. To have it pinned is kind of hilarious, hence I said might as well link to Peegs. I'm pretty sure Illiniboard et al shouldn't be pinned here. BTW, it'd be nice if people actually got suspended for blatant personal attacks instead of Greasy just posting a warning directed at two people, neither of whom attacked anyone.

Just post a link to peegs instead.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 07:12 PM) PS: I don't think anybody's apologized for Benoit or made excuses for him or defended him. Some of us simply can't believe how tragic it's been. Some of us are stunned. I have talked about how disturbing it all is but have stated that I can't hate him for what occurred and won't and would like to learn more about what was going on with him and drugs and everything. I prefer to leave the biggest judgements to God. Oh really? You can't make an excuse or defend a double murder? I didn't know that. Tragic it's been? It's not tragic for Benoit, it's tragic for the wife, kid, and anyone who loved them. You guys go on with your RIP Benoit stuff and have a ball. Such a tragedy, indeed.

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jun 27, 2007 -> 06:55 PM) Oh my god, because other sports athletes don't have drugs or commit violent crimes *cough some in the NBA are convicted criminals, Rae Carruth, Mike Vick, the high usage of HGH/steroids/greenies in baseball just for a small set of starters cough* Try running the ring ropes or taking a few chops or a few of the things they put their bodies through on a nightly basis before you spout off at the mouth and make yourself look like more of a dumb, ignorant motherf***er than you already appear. If you don't like professional wrestling, at least respect the risks they put themselves through for some peoples' entertainment. It's a certain modicum of respect given to any person. It's a tradition, really -- like the Illini football team having no front seven. I don't enjoy basketball but I don't go into threads and tell people I meet what I truly think of the sport and the people who play it on a professional level. Why? Because I'm not as much of a jackass and know that while it is not my cup of tea, it is still athleticism that I can respect because they train, practice and work their ass of to make money and entertain a segment of the population. I like how you started off your post talking about guys doing HGH, as if that compares to people murdering their wife and child. Man, some people are taking this death of a murderer much harder than others. Like Bernstein said, "Why should I care if he died?" Using drugs and ending their lives early is a life choice these guys make, just like a lot of NFL players have done. That's their choice. Also, I don't have to take a few "chops" to prove anything. That's another choice they make. I never said what they do is easy; however, it seems that a lot of them are using drugs up the wazoo, no? And not just ones to help them with their performance. However, me pointing out that they are indeed entertainers and not professional athletes is a fact, bottom line. I'm more or less LMAO at this people that are all RIP Benoit and stuff. Rest in peace? Because he deserves that.
