Gambling on the game of baseball and associating with known felons is very clearly prohibited by the rules of baseball. I don't get the outpouring of sympathy for Pete Rose. The rules are VERY clear, there is no gray area at all. Why should there not be consequences for doing what he KNEW was wrong? That is like saying that people like Michael Milken should still be trading because they made a lot of money doing it. Right on, it's not a judgment made, it is in the rules

I still don't understand the people that say let him in baseball and the Hall if he admits stuff What difference does that make? personal satisfaction? I didn't know honesty changed someone's previous actions and how they are viewed.

I think Schoe has to be used against lefties, 1 or 2 at a time, and that's it, the guy just can't get righties out Righties bat like .345 and lefties .222 off of him, basically we have another lefty specialist Which sucks because who in the hell is going to get righties out I'm not gonna say it was a bad trade because we never used Glover and he wasn't that great this year, but i would have liked to see more of him like ss2k3 said, but i think schoe can be good against lefties for us

Why does this not surprise me one bit Here's the statement Major League Baseball statement Bob DuPuy, Major League Baseball President and Chief Operating Officer, issued the following statement regarding an internet report about the status of Pete Rose: "The story that appeared on the Baseball Prospectus website today regarding the return of Pete Rose to baseball in 2004 and the alleged written agreement that had been reached by Rose and Commissioner Selig is unsubstantiated and totally unfounded. The report is wholly inaccurate. "As has been reported many times by the Commissioner and as recently as one week ago, Commissioner Selig and Mr. Rose have met regarding his pending application for reinstatement, which originally was filed in 1997. The Commissioner has not made a decision and no agreement with Mr. Rose has been reached or signed. When a decision is made, it will be reported through the appropriate channels. Any unnamed source to the contrary or any report suggesting otherwise is both unfortunate and journalistically irresponsible."

If the ball and runner get there at the same time, how does 1 ump out of 10 call him out because the ball beat him there? Yes they can get there at the same time (and do often!) but it's not ruled as a tie goes to the runner. it's either man beats ball or ball didn't beat man, however you want to look at it In summary: There are "ties" at first base where the ball and the runner arrive simultaneously. The "tie goes to the runner" is not recognized in the rule book. It is at the umpires discression whether he thinks the runner is safe or out, in other words, a judgement call. Are we done now? Are you kidding? This arguement has pages of posts still to go! No kidding.. at least 5 or 6 more pages There's no point in arguing because Steff's word rules over all (including rulebooks), so Steff obviously wins

Alomar has to hit that pitch or foul it off That pitch was close enough to be called a strike and he needs to get the bat off of his shoulder Don't blame the ump

The coach of the "miracle on ice" team, the biggest sports upset in history, has died in a car accident, i just heard on the radio RIP to a great coach, what a shame Edit: espn.com bit: Breaking News Herb Brooks Dies In Accident Herb Brooks, coach of the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" hockey team that upset the Soviets and won Olympic gold, has died in a one-car accident in Minnesota, a state official said. Brooks, who returned to coach the 2002 Olympic team to a silver medal, was 66.

I agree with separating the lefties As far as Wright goes, could he possibly be used as righthanded setup, not long relief only? I mean, if Gordon and Marte keep closing/setting up, we are gonna need another righty arm down there to use in the 7th, 8th innings, and it's not Koch at this point. Maybe he could be good for that first inning he comes in (his numbers back it up)

You're hopeless.. Unspoken rules. Ya know.. like the ones that will get you a swim with the fishes if you break them.. unspoken rules now i've heard it all I sense your mocking me... Want to come over for a swim later... me? mock?

Excellent points and totally agree. That guy can run an offense, as can Turner, but Tiller does a better job of getting players up and creating a defensive scheme, hence Purdue is above where we are and he's a great coach

It seems you're the one who injected the "tie goes to the runner" into this when what you quoted was a tie at first base. Btw, "Tie goes to the runner" IS a judgement by the umpire and thus is covered by the rule book. tie goes to the runner is not a judgment made by the umpire Then who would make it???????????? tie goes to the runner is what would be printed in a baseball rule book. a judgment made by the umpire is "safe" or "out" not "tie goes to the runner". the judgment is whether the ball beat the guy to the bag. what you are referring to is the rule that applies to the judgment made

So then you are saying since it is not in the rule book it is physically impossible for a ball to reach the fielders mitt as the runner is stepping on the base? no i did not say that, never have but if that's the case, the runner beat the ball to the bag (or the ball failed to beat the runner) the rule isn't "tie goes to the runner", period

no, judgment of "tie goes to the runner" is a term amatuer fans made up to describe a play at first base if it's not in the rule book, it doesn't apply. there's no interpretation or judgment necessary

Bingo, and bingo. Its always nice having a good strong arm out of the pen and thats what Wright has. You could say the Dodgers should of groomed Gagne into a closer, but look what happened. Right now the Sox have two options, Wright or Ginter and I'm happy with either of the two out of the pen. I think either would contribute and I am excited Cotts will be joining the rotation. Oh ya Cerb...I disagree, Munoz or Majewski can close and do it damn well. Wow did Majewski impress me. Chisoxfn, you and I are going to have to just agree to disagree on Ginter. I see nothing there. Btw, how did he do on his call up? pitched about 3 innings....
