  1. Koch.. it happens more than you think. Ya just don't hear about it. Happened twice in Detroit last week. Happened at San Frans home opener. Happened during the blizzard at OP@CY on their opening day. Did you hear about any of those..?? Uh, they didn't attack coaches and or umps did they? Getting on the field in general is bad, but there's a difference between just wanting to run on the field and between attacking someone. We've made headlines with these two incidents, those other ones were swept under the rug obviously. Alright, first of all.. they guy last night did NOT attack anyone. He ran up to the ump and BEFORE he did anything the ump took him down. His own words are in the Sun-Times if you don't believe me. And second.. yes, those incidents were swept under the rug. Get my point..? Yes he did attack the ump!!! If he went right up to him, that's enough! There's a huge difference between running around the outfield and going up to someone go cause harm; it doesn't matter if the guy took him out right away or how many punches were thrown, it's the fact that he went right after the ump, he wasn't running around for the helluva it. The reason they were swept under the rug was because no one was attacked. I'd like to see you explain why this is such a big deal if no one was "attacked" or at least clearly targeted. We've had 2 of these now.

  3. That's a pretty nice idea actually, and while people will say that will deter fans from the park and less tickets sold, so be it. I'd rather have way less people there and have it be a nice crowd rather than have a nice half price night crowd and that stuff going on. I can say that because i'm a fan, of course the organization cares about the bottom line. But after a 2nd incident, you would think they will put that aside for right now and start to try to prevent this. People have said well oh this stuff could happen anywhere. The thing is, it hasn't....it's happened twice here, and like my one friend likes to say, once is an accident, twice is a trend...something needs to be done

    Self

Today, er yesterday was self appreciation day down here, and it was pretty intense and exciting, i hope it had some sort of effect on him There were a lot of banners and signs hung up at the practice facility, with a constant influx of people in and out of there and just hanging around between classes. Then at 4:30 there were a few hundred people at the holiday inn for the annual bball banquet, outside decked out in orange and holding signs and making a lot of noise, and greeted self in fashion. Ton of students, but an impressive amount of the community were there too. And as we speak there is a campout outside of the athletic offices all night to show self how much we love him down here. I just hope some of this effects him and he stays here. We'll know soon enough, as he leaves for a vacation in Florida soon...i wouldn't think he'd want to deal with this while on vacation. We'll see what happens. My gut feel says it's a 60% chance he stays, that's just me. And villanueva coming is basically linked to whether or not Self stays. All we can do now is go to sleep and hope for the best tomorrow.... ILL INI
  5. I stay with beer to stay out of the toilet/garbage can at the end of the night, too many hard alcohol debacles ending up pretty ugly. Just stick to the beer
  6. Hence successful is in quotes. The hawks were unbelievable the first half and were headed towards the playoffs while the bulls were really never thought to be in the hunt, but yea, both teams ended up doing jack. Though the bulls won't make the playoffs next year, the short term future i think is better until Smith proves this draft picks of his are worth the praise they've received....and once he signs Ruutu damn it.
  7. Walt wouldn't be satisfied if God himself was the goalie for his team
  8. Raising the walls isn't the answer, unless you are talking 10 foot high see through walls. It's not possible, they'll get on if they want to It has to do mainly with alcohol, it'd be nice to limit that. However the punishments have to be huge, i agree with valentine, mandatory jail sentence and 15,000+ fine. Maybe they'll think twice about doing it, if they can think at all after the amount of beer they've consumed.
  9. Definitely not manuel's fault. In order for that to be the case, you couldn't say "why didn't he put in koch in the 9th up 1" after they later blow the game. That would have to be the RIGHT decision. Koch blew it, plain and simple My one friend keeps reminding me of this...last year after he let minne scratch 2 in the 9th in game 5 i believe, he talked about basically how he wanted to kill himself, he was really distraught, this could also be a mental problem. But you can throw 105 to a major league hitter, if it's right over the heart of the plate, doesn't move, and is predicatble it's coming, they will hit it. Why the hell do you think farnsy gets absolutely rocked?
  10. Putting the tying run on 2nd really isn't all that advisable. I wouldn't give him a meatball, but you can't go in there with the mentality of "i don't have to give in to him at all and i'll walk him if he doesn't chase". Never put the tying run in scoring position, that's what i think. I know it's sweeney, but hell, it's not like i'm pitching, it's friggin Billy Koch, supposed to be one helluva closer. Let's see him do his job.
  11. Alright makes sense, i just thought one of the faster players may have been there, not rick white, just a random observation i thought to be funny. Damn it i wish sweeney would have clocked the s*** out of that guy...
  12. Station to station ball is a joke, but the way the Sox run the bases, it might be safer than being aggressive. I know 12 year old teams that run the bases better than the Sox. It's a definite problem that won't show up on a stat sheet.
  13. Yes, it was closer to the KC bench, hence they were out there first. Why Sweeney didn't pummel the guy, i don't know. i was shocked to see him refrain from swinging at the guy. And why is it that rick white of all people is the first guy at the scene? Were the rest of the sox walking? LOL.
  14. Basically if i'm a bulls fan, which i'm really not, i feel good about next year or at least the near future. Got some young guys who play night in and night out and have some talent. With a new GM in place, who knows where this team will end up. In the other locker room you have the Hawks. Roster was filled with aging, crappy veterans all year and only a few young talents. Played like crap all year and gave up in most games. Not exciting to watch, offers me no hope for next year, and as of this moment, Smith is still the GM. Hawks will never do anything with that guy at the helm. Bulls show much more promise than the Hawks right now. Huge difference between both teams losing, and while the Hawks were more "successful" this year, going into next year i'd rather be a bulls fan.
  15. so you have declared a) that you didn't "come after" cwsox when the title of the thread was "CWSOX!!!!!!!!!!!!/ Detroit sucks"; B) that you are misunderstood, and all you really wanted was to share your views, which i suppose might be understandable, but when your first two posts in the thread consist of mostly "detroit sucks, cujo sucks, wings are old" etc, there is nothing to misunderstand; c) that i am childish, when you said, "I can only wonder if cwsox was actually crying while posting, or if he slept at all last night." which i guess to you isn't a childish statement; and d) that i should get a life, when the first thing you did when the hockey game ended was to run over to your computer and taunt cwsox. well i must say, your case is rock-solid. at the start it was some good old razzing. then the topic went completely elsewhere and was worthy of a new thread...this is where i never "attacked" cwsox...i don't get what in the hell you are trying to say. and as far as getting a life goes, how bout you stop feeling the need to butt in on anything i say and try to turn it around just because we disagreed on something having to do with basketball once. so we have different views. to hold a grudge is pretty childish. i'm not gonna look at every post u make and just disagree to disagree and say something stupid after it. if you are, have fun with that. grow up. oh and cwsox, edina rocked us when i was like 14, and we had a pretty good team. i'm talking we had about 5 shots the entire game and lost like 6-0, would have been worse if not for our goalie. i remember how dominant they were, and i guess they are like this every year. hell, wasn't the famous adam banks from mighty ducks from edina minnesota? lol
  16. detroit does suck, they are down 3-0 in a series, that's a fact buddy. the thread then moved onto a different subject basically it's good to see you are consistent in your childish ways of holding grudges against people who at all held different views than you did. grow up
  17. "come after?" the whole point of a message board is to share views big boy. and no not going out with my tail between my legs if i was misunderstood. get a life batman
  18. I know but Sox fans get ripped on the radio and stuff for only showing up when it's half price night, as if they need gimmicks to get them to the park. I'd love to see a nice crowd at the cell on a thursday night, that's all. I think it would suck as a player to have 25,000-30,000 or whatever monday tuesday and then 15,000-20,000 on wed, thursday.
  19. Alright first off, go to hell Spiff, you are a moron CWsox, i think you misunderstood some of the stuff i said. I get the general feeling that you think i was trying to convince you that chicago is more of a "hockeytown" than detroit...that is clearly not the case, sorry if it looked like that. That's not what i was trying to argue. Concerning the pistons..ok this year they are good, but the past few years, how good have they been? Good enough to compete for exposure with the wings? I would say no. Hockeytown didn't just come out this year. As far as all of Michigan's college teams and AAA teams, yes it is very large, but i don't think just plain quantity outright wins you the name hockeytown. In my opinion, Minnesota Gophers hockey is as big as any program there, but that's up for debate obviously. And i've played many michigan and minnesota teams in my travel and hs days, and i'd say the Minnesota programs were a touch above the Michigan ones. Edina Minnesota was really really solid compared to anyone i ever played in michigan. As for football...just because our stadium doesn't hold 100,000+ doesn't mean there isn't demand for tickets or that ND wouldn't fill the stadium, i believe they clearly would. I don't think just plainly having a bigger stadium is reason to say Michigan has a bigger fanbase or what not compared to ND. The comparison of ND to MSU football was ridiculous. If there stadium is bigger obviously they will have a higher attendance, but surely you are not telling me MSU football is bigger than ND football as a whole. You admitted that the lions and tigers suck. But yet you compare them to the Bears???? When did i ever mention the bears? I'm not comparing Chicago to detroit at this point, i'm explaining why hockeytown easily developed in detroit because of a lack of competition among other sports. You talk about the knowledgeable hawks fans and how staying away from the UC doesn't make them knowledgeable. So are you telling me the Cubs fans are the best most knowledgeable fans because they sell out all the time? Please. They are by far the most diluted fans in all of Chicago. And yes, Hawks fans are the most knowledgable and passionate fan for fan because like i said there are no casual or fairweather hawks fans. The people that do go to games are very passionate and knowledgeable, there's no yuppies like at wrigley, and the bears fans are really all just a bunch of drunks. And judging from the 10 games i went to this year, they don't know anything about football compared to college football fans, or football in general, it's ridiculous. There is also no such thing as a Bulls fan, they are just Jordan fans. When you root for Jordan and the Wiz to beat your bulls, that's pretty pathetic. Not to mention you could hear a pin drop at those games. All i was saying is that i would like to see what Chicago would look like if the Hawks were amazing again like in the early 90's. It wouldn't match detroit; however i think it'd be a pretty cool atmosphere. I don't think you can say hawks fans are bad fans because there is low attendance at games. That is just saying there isn't a lot of fans, and that some fans don't show up. Well each Hawks fan not showing up has a bigger effect than one cubs fan not showing up because there is another cubs fan to take his place. You can't punish the Hawks fans exist just because there aren't a lot of them. So basically i think you took me wrong, i wasn't arguing so much detroit vs. chicago at all...detroit is a way bigger hockeytown than chicago, i can't argue against that. I was just explaining why detroit became hockeytown and arguing a bit for minnesota. And as far as roller hockey goes, not that you probly care but your teams are solid as hell, like msu and michigan, because the guys who don't make the ice hockey team play for the premier roller hockey team, so ya they are stacked.
  20. I'll say Maggs and Buehrle make the team
  21. Please don't let that be the only reason you go to a game this year...don't be one of those fans. Show up to a thursday night game against Detroit this year when they really need some fans, not just on a tuesday or monday when the place will be filled anyway. I hate those god damn people.
  22. While you make some valid points cwsox, a few things: Detroit is only "hockeytown" basically because every other team in that city sucks, plain and simple. The pistons, lions and tigers are all the laughingstocks of their respective leagues, so the city turned to the Wings (as did the rest of the country, damn fairweather fans). I would say that the interest in the team now, detroit that is, was equalled if not beat by the interest in the hawks in the early 90's. I wish i could see what it would be like if the hawks were of detroit's caliber right now. The hockey fans are out there, they just don't care right now. And the hawks fans in this city are the most passionate and knowledgeable of any of the sports teams in this city, there's no arguing that. There's no fairweather hawks fans...that's pretty obvious. So they don't "pollute" the intensity and knowledge of the average fan. I think if the hawks are good in a few years, this city will be crazy about them. It will never be a hockey city, we are behind the bears and TWO baseball teams, but the interest is there when they win. But basically the wings have nothing to compete with. I want to see what the interest in detroit is like when the wings suck in 3 years and (maybe) the lions or somebody else is good. I don't see how you call Michigan the best hockey state, it's clearly minnesota hands down. There isn't 10,000 lakes for nothing. Hockey lives in minnesota, i'd say u of minnesota is bigger than hockey at u of m, but that's just an opinion. I think if you have a game outside somewhere in minnesota they draw almost that many people regardless of who they are playing. Of course an instate rivalry will draw a ton of people. But i think that could be the case anywhere. And about the football example....I'm an ND fan...and you could have ND playing absolutely nobody and could draw probly draw 200,000 people if a stadium would hold it. How many consecutive sellouts have they had (yes, i know michigan has a lot too). But there is so much demand for ND tickets and ND fans are everywhere. And about illinois hockey...it's really not big down here i know, but they are a pretty damn good team, only lost 2 games this year, ended up 3rd, and won it last year, so they are nothing to laugh at. I know michigan would whoop on em, but they certainly aren't a laughingstock. They are pretty solid. But i don't think you eliminate illinois from the "hockey state" contest by talking about u of illinois hockey...obviously it makes no difference. It's basically all Hawks. I mean, would you have eliminated Minnesota 4 years ago because they didn't have an NHL team? Certainly certainly not. And about cal hockey...i play for the roller hockey team here, we went to nationals, and Cal Poly was in the championship game...and their league is pretty solid from what i hear, so hockey interest is definitely on the rise there, but who knows how high that ceiling is. I sure miss those good old 2 pt goals in pro beach hockey...

  25. Ok, Tim floyd, NO. And ya today is Bill Self appreciation day here at U of I and there is a possible campout tonight outside the athletic offices which i might attend. Anything is worth a try at this point, and i don't want to talk about possible replacements until he is gone, if that happens. I'd say there's about a 60% chance he stays here, that's just my opinion. And Villanueva coming basically hinges on whether or not Self stays, so this is pretty crucial in many ways. I can only hope for the best now.
