  1. In addition to ISU over Michigan, Belmont also beat UNC and Indiana St knocked off ND.
  2. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 07:37 PM) I don't even know if that would've helped. I think honestly, Illinois needs to hire a guy who's in with these players who they all look up to. Groce is a great recruiter, as are the assistants. This quite simply came down to Kansas over Illinois, Kansas being Kansas etc. You could be the coach of Kansas right now and I still think he probably picks there over Illinois with all the other factors taken into account. That being said, Self is obviously a great recruiter. What's going to change everything is starting to win with the 3 and 4 star guys, and Illinois will become more of a destination than it currently is.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 06:24 PM) Right...they're hoping to take the run away from them, which ultimately did happen on the third down. Ultimately most teams will pass there anyways, but at least it does allow you to play pass on defense almost at a100% likelihood. That said, it's not worth doing that if you give away precious time in the event they score a touchdown (or even a fg in this instance, as they could have had a minute to try and score prior to the end of regulation). I guess I was just hoping there would be some better answer I hadn't thought of. I don't know that there is one. Any "advantage" you get by trying to limit their play selection is minimal at best since they have 2 timeouts. I realize that if they burn both and get sacked etc on 3rd the game is over, but again, odds of that situation coming up and then happening is so slim, you would much rather have time on the clock at that point. Once time is not an issue for your opponent, you immediately need to think of stopping it for your team. I feel like it gets lost in moment. For how many head coaches screw up clock management, it would help if there was one guy on staff on game day always just thinking about clock-related stuff within the last few minutes of a half and can help out the HC.
  4. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 07:23 PM) Illinois seemed extremely impressive tonight against a potential tourney team in Bradley. At least i think they were. It wasn't on TV, but they won by 26 It's on tomorrow, BTN at 2pm, so I'll record that to watch. Hate these no-TV games. Box score looks good, best part is the rebounds. 49-25. That had been an issue early on.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 06:43 PM) Started Brady this week and thank God, because Rivers only got 16 and I would've lost. Just need 23 from Tom tomorrow. That's going to be tough, especially if TDs are 4.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 05:05 PM) Being a degenerate gambler, I watch a s***load of games...almost to a man, every coach does that s***...I'd love to hear the thinking...especially when the team on offense has timeouts themselves. There isn't any good logic to it, they just must think "oh maybe they'll run out of time before they score." When they have 2 timeouts on the 5 with a minute left, time is a non-issue for them. I could not believe he wasn't taking them, you needed an out, especially if they punched it in for a TD. All he has to do is think about it from Baltimore's perspective. A perfect situation would have been to bleed the clock and score a TD with 10 seconds left. It's really crazy how bad coaches are with the clock sometimes. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 05:05 PM) Anytime the Bears and CPD want to get together and discuss field turf in earnest would be fine by me 100%.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 04:55 PM) why are they not stopping the clock?? No idea, coaches are terrible with the clock. The instant it was a first down, should have called it and kept using them.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 01:07 AM) My best friends sisters boyfriend said that wasn't true. I'm sure this is how it went down, LOL http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/colle...0,3722944.story
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 17, 2013 -> 03:50 PM) more favorable than [any RB in the NFL] vs. the Bears? Rice is terrible, I'd consider benching him if he was playing in a college game.
  10. Get field turf already. But playing with bad conditions is fun? Makes for worse football.
  11. Illinois has lost 20 straight BT games, are playing on the road, and are a 7 point favorite against Purdue. I don't want to put too much emphasis on one game, but I think this will go a long way in determining if Beckman is around next year. For the time being, I think he is, but another bad loss here, and it might be enough for Thomas to flip it.
  12. Stay classy, OSU: Aaron Bennett @WCIA3Aaron Heard a report the Ohio State players trashed the visitors' locker room at Memorial Stadium today. Apparently busted ceiling tiles
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 08:03 PM) I've never shaved with a razor before, not even once. I have only used electric shavers. Same here.
  14. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) Fire Beckman PLZ! WE LOST TO OSU! FIRE!
  15. Embarrassing, osu. For a team that needed to win by 50, tons of negative style points.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) Lol. Surprisingly enough I've been watching basketball. It promised to be a better game. I figured, if we got one more td I was going to say hey, may want to check the football game just in case...
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) Coach fight, dirty play. Things going downhill. Lol, now you talk since it's comfortable again.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 09:46 AM) Why do I have this weird urge to bet the house on Illinois? They seem to always play undefeated OSU tough and 32 points is a lot. Not sure what you ate for breakfast, but that's where your weird urge came from.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 09:18 AM) Very cool. BUT why aren't they trying to equate the football players to soldiers and put them in blood spattered helmets? I know, we're missing the boat by not being ridiculously over the top and trying to draw attention.
  20. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 09:18 AM) Oh boy, that's not loaded or anything. I still say uniforms aren't worth getting worked up over. Enjoy them, hate them, discuss them, but you're not allowed to be offended by them. You're not? Who are you, God?
  21. This is how you honor military without being flashy and ridiculous http://www.landgrantholyland.com/2013/11/1...inst-ohio-state
  22. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 16, 2013 -> 12:40 AM) LOL, I didn't realize this was one of the most important days in Illinois history. It wasn't, guys. Relax. I'll go back to my corner and watch from afar. Although I will say that look at the list of top players and where they are going. 90% are going to blue blood schools. It usually plays out that way. A couple exceptions don't make a rule. Xavier has a highly rated class because of the volume of players, not because they landed top tier recruits. Please do, as you just don't get it since you're not in our shoes. Plus, we're not that upset with missing out on cliff as we are with how it went down, plus snider and how that went down.
  23. Of course it's a bigger blow, because, you know, he was committed.
