It's also interesting to think about how much different the news cycle would have been with Twitter, smart phones, etc. Instead of rumors flying around HS hallways and people looking for TVs, the kid sitting in calculus would have found out immediately. May have also been easier to try to find people, etc.
  2. QUOTE (Boogua @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 01:51 PM) Apparently Chip Sylvie posted, Illinois fans. You may get Quentin Snider tonight. He'll replace Jaylon Tate who is a !!!!ty, miserable basketball player" And then went on to defend it and berate everyone who responded in the process BTF sent me that Thanks. That's pretty bush league of that guy. Plus, from what I've read I think Tate can be a good bench PG.
  3. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 01:31 PM) Some posters aren't too bad, but man the high and low of emotions over there is just terrible. That Kramer dude is a very solid poster though. I like that bigruss poster, seems like a good dude.
  4. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 10:34 AM) My other RB outside of David Wilson is Frank Gore. Who is playing in Seattle this week. Gore, as for the most part we know he'll be involved in the offense and likely get the goal line work. Wilson's involvement is a total wild card right now.
  5. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) Over at IL they are pretty much saying it would be a shocker if it wasn't Illinois, I'm thinking it's us but crazier things have happened. It'd be a shocker based on all the unbiased recruiting people thinking Illinois and flipping in the past week. I'm well prepared for another kick to the nuts, though.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 10:15 AM) Hahahaha god I love this answer because it's literally NEVER wrong But it's true. Without context there's no answer to give.
  7. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 09:25 AM) David Wilson. Do you start him or not? Depends on your other options.
  8. QUOTE (Boogua @ Sep 12, 2013 -> 09:43 AM) Quentin Snider will announce his decision tonight. Oh boy, here we go. No one has changed their crystal ball prediction to UCLA since the 3rd. 4 people changed to ILL between last night and this morning. Up to 64% as of now. Waiting...
  9. QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 10:06 PM) Sorry for all the questions but I'm new at this for this season. Wouldn't the fact that Oakland held Luck to 120 yards scare people off Shorts with Henne at QB? It's all good ask away. No, luck was still 18 of 23. Oaklands not a shut down defense. It's not like shorts is a top ten play, but I think he'll have a decent week.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 10:18 PM) Maybe if the Groupon gets even cheaper. 27 is way cheaper than the trip to champaign.
  11. Anyone else going to the Chicago Homecoming game Saturday? Looks to be a decent crowd, maybe 80% full. Don't expect to win, probably a really high scoring, entertaining game. But we may give up 40+. With a loss, we'd be 3-1 in non-conference since Miami is brutal, get them in 2 weeks.
  12. QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 09:57 PM) Thanks for the info on White. I didn't see that. I was going to start him because my other WR was Cecil Shorts. So here's the question Shorts or Gore for the flex. My WRs are Calvin Johnson and Torrey Smith. I would be starting Shorts over White in a hearbeat, even if White "plays." I'd start Shorts over Gore, and slam dunk if it's PPR. I think Shorts will get a lot of targets, and they may be in his zip code now that Henne is in instead of Gabbert.
  13. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 09:45 PM) I don't think Roddy is playing his normal role. I'm not way down on Gore but Seattle is a tough play. DeAngelo Williams might be a better play than him this week considering how Vereen ran on Buffalo. It wouldn't be outrageous to play Williams over him. Seattle is a tough matchup but if IIRC didn't Gore actually do fairly well against them last year?
  14. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 09:44 PM) I'm debating on Stafford or Vick this week. I feel that both are high risk/high reward. Any thoughts? I think Stafford's the much safer play, to me he's not really risk/reward type this week. Vick is for sure. I don't think it's an easy call either way, I'd probably go Stafford though. Floor's lower even if his ceiling may not be higher/less risk of injury 3 plays into the game.
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 09:33 PM) I have: WR: Jordy Nelson WR: DeSean Jackson WR: Vincent Brown TE: Tony Gonzalez Flex: Alshon Jeffery Bench: Sidney Rice Denarius Moore Gronk Nate Burleson Shonn Greene What to do about WR3/Flex spots? Once Gronk returns, he'll have that Flex spot on lock presumably. Not sure who will take over that WR3 in the long run and can't decide who to start. The posted configuration is how I went last week. Brown did okay due to a TD catch, but only had the one catch. Moore had a good game, I had sat him because I had no idea how the Oakland offense was going to go. Rice didn't do much and I don't really expect him to. Burleson might be a guy that picks up some big numbers in the Detroit passing attack, but I don't know about this week @Arizona Also not sure about Alshon. Took him as a gamble just to give me another thing to root for in Bears games, but he remains an enigma to me. Seems like he ought to be one of the top 4 WR for now, but I don't really know Yeah Gronk takes that spot once "healthy." Brown, Jeffery, Moore, Rice are all kind of in the same grouping of "take a flyer" guys. Burleson might get phased out once Broyles comes back. Broyles might play this week but likely not 100%, so Burleson still has value for now. Rice might be the #3 in Seattle it appears behind Tate and Baldwin. Jeffery had a decent amount of targets Sunday, but again week to week who knows. Moore might be a #1 receiver. Granted he has a HS QB throwing to him, but he'll likely get targets. Your best bet for consistency likely ends up being Brown. At this moment, I'd probably group it like this, for separation, what little there is: Brown - Jeffery Moore - Rice - Burleson I wouldn't worry about the long run for any of this, just week by week. I guess try to play the matchups until you can see consistency, if you can get it, from any of those guys.
  16. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 08:26 PM) Try owning Miller AND Wilson. Where's the "blow your brains out" smiley when you need it? I've got both as well, luckily I have some other options right now. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 09:10 PM) Do my team. Ppr WR: Roddy White Vs StL WR: Steve Johnson vs Car Flex: Frank Gore at Sea Bench Mendenhall vs. Detroit Bernard Lance Moore vs Tampa DeAngelo Williams vs Buf Chris Givens vs. Atl Jerome Simpson vs Chi No idea about WR 2 again. Leaning towards Simpson. Nervous about Gore in the flex. Also Baltimore or Pittsburgh D. I wouldn't automatically pencil in White to that WR1 slot. Per White's twitter, he said if he doesn't practice, red flag, don't start him. Well, he didn't practice today. As of this moment, I wouldn't be starting him. Definitely starting Johnson. I'd still start Gore at Flex. I'd actually go Givens or Moore over Simpson, if you don't play White. I don't think he can get anywhere near a good game against the Bears instead of the Lions. Givens should be targeted much more in this game than last game, and you never know when Moore is going to have the roulette wheel stop on him to have his day for the Saints. If it was my team I'd probably go Moore. Your D's a tossup, I'd lean Baltimore just because I feel better getting turnovers off Weeden at home than Dalton and Co. on the road.
  17. I'll say, this thread is solid when it's not just everyone posting scores of their games and what they need to win etc/b****ing, and instead posting lineup decisions and value questions they have and other situations and we have discussions. Hopefully we can keep this up all year, love hearing different opinions and advice.
  18. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 06:47 PM) Who should I start in my flex position? T.Y Hilton or Chris Johnson? The guy I'm playing with has Luck so I'm hoping I could cancel out a TD catch by starting Hilton. Maybe I'm over thinking this and should play it safe by starting Johnson? You start your best team. I get where you are coming from, but you want the guy that will score more points. I wouldn't get too cute here, I'd start Johnson. Fun fact: TY only played in 44% of the offensive plays last week. I'd rather go with what's more likely to happen, than trying to bank on one TY Hilton TD pass at this point. Just don't come flame me after TY catches 2 TDs.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 01:28 PM) I did. And yes, his train of thought made sense on Bowe, but sometimes he gets carried away. See: Miller, Lamar. He just knows Daniel Thomas sucks, and Miller shows flashes. He could be a bust, but as we're talking about, one week. He's like a poor man's Wilson at this point.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) I got Jordan Cameron off waivers in one league to replace Gates and Edelman in another to replace Roddy White. I'm sure you didn't, but I hope you dropped someone else for Edelman, not White. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) You little Matthew Berry fan. Indeed. His whole train of thought on Bowe made sense to me. You read his book? Great stuff in there about things different leagues do, etc.
  21. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) You like Bowe this week? I need two receivers and with Amendola out I have DeSean Jackson, Anquan Boldin and Dwayne Bowe. Unfortunately, my boss was ahead of me on the waiver wire and snatched Edelman. I'd favor Bowe over Jackson a little bit. Bowe has a nice matchup this week, we all saw Dallas get shredded last week in the passing game. It's hard to sit Boldin after last week, but the matchup is brutal. So if you need two, I'm playing Boldin/Bowe. I couldn't really argue with you if you wanted Jackson over Bowe though.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 10:55 AM) They're going to utilize Charles. If that means throwing it to him out of the backfield, or in screens or lining him out wide that's what they are going to do. McCluster as well. They may throw but it will be conservatively done. I could be wrong, but even as a Chiefs fan, I believe Bowe is going to disappoint fantasy owners this year. I realize they are going to utilize Charles, but he's a bit fragile so I don't think he's getting 30 touches a game. Plus if you're planning to stop KC, you try to limit Charles the best you can. Even if it's conservative I think it's fine. I don't really care if Smith doesn't throw deep all the time. In PPR, Bowe can grab shorter passes and still be fine. I just don't see him getting worse than previous years with a better QB and a more pass happy coach.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 10:44 AM) Andy Reid offenses in Philadelphia also had much better receiver corps. I don't know about much better, they did have Owens, who Bowe is trying to serve as on this team (and has similar size). You still can't dismiss the fact that Reid loves throwing the ball just because you think the Eagles had better receivers. It's not like he had Drew Brees playing for him. 8 out of 9 years for top 10 is a pretty big indicator of a pass-happy Reid. They were up big all day Sunday and still threw it 34 times.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) The problem with Bowe is that Alex Smith does not throw a good deep ball and if KC is not behind they are not going to be throwing a lot. KC has a massively underrated defense that is going to keep them in the majority of their games and as long as Charles stays healthy *knocks on wood* they are going to run their offense through him, whether that is on the ground or lining him up at WR and exploiting the mismatch like they did a few times last week. No way. Andy Reid loves throwing the ball. Over the past nine seasons, Andy Reid offenses have been top-10 in the NFL in passing yards eight times. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 11, 2013 -> 09:33 AM) That was my thought-process on Wilson. It might have seemed like a panic move to get rid of Bowe, but it was purely trying to upgrade. Wilson went 10 picks before an overdrafted Mathews and Gronk went 10 picks before Bowe. I like that type of upgrade. I have Wilson on one of my teams as well. No use trading super low on him. I don't think it was panic getting rid of Bowe, just what it would take in the trade. If you can get 10+ games out of Gronk, the trade will be fine for you. You have 2 guys that could be stars on any given week, and gave up one solid/star player and one player who will be injured in 2 weeks. Or bad.
