  1. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) Perhaps it is the one stat that incorporates or covers that catch all we call "intangibles"? Where else would you find a stat that shows his teamates play just a little bit harder when he is on the mound? Or worse, the guy that his teammates seem to take the day off with? I could be, and mostly am, convinced that W-L is the least valuable of the stats we find on the back of a baseball card. I haven't been convinced yet that we should throw it out. Come on now, a guy standing in the batter's box has zero focus who is pitching for his team. And if he did, I guess this means they all suck for Sale and hate playing hard.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 06:48 PM) Those were some confusing and ridiculous statements coming the week before they were to honor Peyton With a giant backpedal afterwards.
  3. I hope Peyton puts up 70 on Irsay's Colts for being a clown.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 09:38 PM) Glad I ignored you turds and told my wife to start Jacobs. Ridley would have worked just fine, turd
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 01:31 PM) Can we induct him into the White Sox Hall of Fame? Yes. Absolutely yes. Was such a big fan that October.
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 01:28 PM) Watching that game on tv was amazing. I was there, it wasn't as bad as on Tv. I remember in warmups we were all trying to figure out who was going to change...then they came out still orange vs red and we were all wait they are seriously going to do this?
  7. I think I've met about 10-12 people from here. 1 was in my wedding party (and vice versa) and 2 others were at my wedding. All started here. Kind of crazy.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 12:41 PM) Everything about that summer sucked. Our family moved in August of that summer, the Sox blew a division lead in September (thanks Jose Paniagua! Ironically, blaming him is doing the exact same thing Cubs fans do to Bartman). The Cubs pulled through in the clutch, the Twins won, and both the Yankees and Red Sox won, though I believe I hated the Red Sox less at the time. It had just been an awful postseason up to that point. Then the Marlins happened, and everything was right in the world again, and then 2 years later, the Sox would win it all. Josh Beckett SOS
  9. Rowand, remember how we were talking about how you picked up Julio Jones since a guy dropped him without thinking it through? 2 days later that happened in my league, and I was able to pick him up. I don't think anyone else went for him either. He was a 2nd round pick, so the guy doesn't want to keep him for a 1st...but as a FA, he's now using a spot 3 rounds below next year's ADP. So likely a 5th or 6th rounder. No idea why he wouldn't just throw him on IR, but hey, thanks.
  10. Watch out Badger, we got orange on orange with an orange out going Saturday. Got it? Be scared. You guys should bring your reds.
  11. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 12:19 PM) I couldn't care less about the Cubs now but that season at the time made me despise everything about them and their fans. That October sucked until that game. Agreed. Bonus points for correctly using "couldn't care less." QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 12:25 PM) I'm glad I wasn't down at u of I yet because I probably would have killed myself from the awfulness even before the collapse had begun. I could only imagine how bad it was. It was really bad. I skipped classes just so I didn't have to walk to class, through the quad etc. Didn't go to any bars for a few weeks either. There were Cubs bar crawls, the whole 9 yards. There was never a doubt in my mind they'd lose game 7. I wasn't worried a bit.
  12. Talk about the way back machine...I was at U of I when they lost, and I remember writing the best away message in the history of away messages, just ripping the Cubs and all the bandwagon, dbag fans around campus for the past couple weeks. Seriously, 50%-60% of people going to class were wearing some sort of blue. Sororities ordered t-shirts. Bars had playoff logo glasses ordered. It was the worst thing ever. My away message was the biggest, best "f*** off" ever. I wish I still had it.
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 13, 2013 -> 10:15 PM) Brees didn't do much for me, but luckily Peyton wasn't his usual 25+ point self either. I got Trent Richardson tomorrow and he's got Reggie Wayne. Depending on what my kicker Bailey does tonight, I'm probably up by 8-10 points heading to tomorrow. Should be a fun one to watch. What time do you think they play?
  14. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 12, 2013 -> 12:42 AM) Olbermann just said Beltran never made it to the world series.....Wasn't he apart of the astros team the Sox raped? No that was 04
  15. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 11:30 PM) He almost missed the tag in the 10th. Slowing it down a million times it does look like his glove caught the elbow but there's definitely a possibility that he completely missed. I was referring to "whiff sticked"
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 11:09 PM) Yadi almost whiff sticked that tag. English?
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 09:38 PM) Glad I ignored you turds and told my wife to start Jacobs. IDK, I would have played Mathews instead. Turd.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 02:40 PM) Since this has been a topic here recently, Matthew Berry just addressed this in his Love/Hate today Ding ding ding we have a winner.
  19. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 09:14 AM) I went to the MNF game against the Packers. They got beat, but it was still an awesome atmosphere. Yeah it was. I remember that bomb Favre through to IIRC Driver, coming right into the horse shoe.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 10:11 AM) Here's one for Soxtalkers. The wife is struggling with this choice so I thought I'd pose it to you here. Brandon Jacobs (Wilson is toast) vs Bears tonight or Ridley/Blount whomever starts on Sunday for the Pats vs the Saints on Sunday. Unfortunately, this call needs to be made today. Ugh, I'd hate to start Jacobs. He's done nothing...Scott will still get work. You're basically banking on trying to get a TD or 2 or it could be a very small output. I'd probably lean NE guys. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 10:17 AM) I have a really solid starting lineup, so I have been bench stashing, but soon will need to drop one. Help me decide: Vereen Andre Brown Harvin. GO Andre Brown, easy.
  21. QUOTE (farmteam @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 08:31 AM) Oh wow, that was over a decade ago now, wasn't it? 2002 I think. Henry Burris started the final game, hahahahaha. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 08:46 AM) Yup, 2002, I was down there. $20 student tickets and a half-mile walk to the stadium from my house. That was awesome. (too bad Leon Johnson's face sent the season into a downward spiral) Like an idiot, I drove back down to Champaign with some friends for that final game with Burris. Just a dreadful football game. I had those season tickets too. Best deal ever. Do you remember the first game vs Minnesota? When no one could find their seat and everyone was in the horse shoe aisle until almost half time? After that they were much more diligent about telling Bears fans which side to enter. That Bucs game - tt was indeed Henry Burris vs Rob Johnson. I, too, drove down with friends for that game. We actually tailgated all day. It was like 30 degrees. Worst football game ever.
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 06:28 PM) Yes. Vick can't stay healthy and Gronk and Amendola are back. No brainer, imo. MJD at least will get the carries; I don't trust BB to go back to Ridley as a full-timer. I say it's a break-even deal. If you're tired of MJD (which I understand) then do it. 2nd one's probably a very even deal, s*** for s***. MJD will get carries but then they are down 21 and can't run anymore. I don't trust NE and BB either, but since I don't need him to start, I can hope Ridley either takes over, or Vereen takes over when he comes back, and maybe I have something. I guess I think Ridley's ceiling is higher, even if his floor is lower.
  23. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 06:23 PM) My team is Victorious Secret, highest point total and a 2-3 record. This is the team that has brought this thread such hits as: Needing 100 yards out of Julio last week for the bonus and him getting exactly 99 and having a 6 point lead in week 2 with AJ Green and Antonio Brown on MNF going only against the Bengals defense and still losing. Yeah, you've taken it on the chin twice. BTW, your league has no idea how to use FAAB apparently. No way such little should be spent going into week 6. Who does everyone think will become available later?
  24. I also just got offered Ridley for MJD. I do have Vereen sitting around. My starting rbs are Moreno and Bush, so he'd be a backup, but I think it's probably worth the gamble. Both are s***, but I feel Ridley's s*** lottery ticket has a better chance of doing something if I have to use him.
  25. Let's poll the room: I mentioned earlier I was considering trying to trade Vick for Brady. Talked to the other guy and he just proposed it. Do I pull the trigger? Again, I get Brady, he gets Vick, I have no backup QB.
