QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 07:47 AM) I guess strong is the new n-word, i.e. only "they" can use it. http://mobile.boston.com/news/source/2013/...ts_now_for_sale Are you serious? I didn't know t-shirts with "Chicago Stronger" were out there, but that's in extremely poor taste, and just plain stupid. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 09:50 AM) Chicago Tribune takes back its post-bombing tribute to the Bruins WTF is wrong with people? There was zero need to do that. I'm glad that the only time I've heard this series "linked" to the tragedy was during Media Day, when people asked questions to Hawks players that quite frankly were impossible to answer. This series has nothing to do with the tragedy, but making t-shirts and for some reason bringing up an old Tribune page? WTF? Let's not be classless like this guy: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-dad...-012808757.html -

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 09:32 PM) I totally get what youre saying. There was a reason why not many shots were taken from the point and since you were there, you def could see the shooting lanes, or lack of, better than what we could see on tv. Cant just throw shots willy-nilly at the net if nothing is there like you said. Hate to bring up the NBCSN angle again but after getting the largest Game 1 audience since 1997 and it being a game for the ages, I'm guessing NBC is getting a major hard-on for what should be some really good ratings for the cable outlet. The ratings will go down, I'm sure. But my guess is the actual # of people watching the game won't go down too much. What I mean is that a lot of people will end up making other plans (friends, bar, etc) to see the game. But households getting it will obviously go down. Game 1 ratings were through the freaking roof across the country. I think I have this right...I read that Game 1 was up 50% in Chicago compared to Game 1 2010 vs Philly. That seems crazy to me. I don't know where the rest of the bandwagon was hiding, I pretty much thought everyone and their mother was on board at that point. -
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 07:36 PM) Cheers! Just to clarify, I should add that by putting the ball in play, I mean if it forces the baserunner off of 1st base (and the baserunner off of 2nd if there's a guy on 1st, etc). If there is only a guy on 2nd when a ground ball is hit, he's not forced to go anywhere because no one is on 1st. So if he attempts to advance and there's a possible play on him at 3rd base, that has to be a tag.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 07:19 PM) He's right though and I dont think its really a big deal though. Seemed like the B's were trying too much for the easy/sure goal instead of throwing pucks at the net and trying for a tip. Also probably a little frustration by Rask for being left out to dry on 2 goals and having no chance at the two weird deflected goals. Really besides the GWG, I dont remember many shots from the point by either team in the OT sessions. I do remember the Jagr deflection off the post. But with physical and mental fatigue, you'd think that would be the easiest way to find the back of the net. He's right...but that's something you keep internal/say it a bit differently. The quotes actually don't do it justice, hearing it, the tone was not very good. Look, I get it, you're frustrated as f*** because you shut down the Hawks and played pretty great, especially in OT, and no one could score on the 87 chances they had in OT...but that's not how you handle it. It's not just my opinion...Melrose, Weekes, Pang had the same thoughts. Good observation in your last paragraph...you are right, anything at the net is good, but from watching a lot of OT hockey, and especially my vantage point last night (able to see lanes really well), the last thing you can afford to do in OT is throw it into some guy's shin pads for a breakaway/odd man rush the other way. So in OT a lot of guys are making the safe play, chip it back down the corner, unless you see that you have a lane. It's not a perfect science, but that's the thought process. There were a ton of times last night on both sides where I thought they made good reads not to just throw something that was very likely to get blocked. Yes you are trying to win the game with a shot...but you're better off making the safe play and not losing the game. You see that all over the ice in OT. I don't want to go all Hawk Harrelson on this, but a lot of times, you'll have the other team make the mistake to beat themselves first. Just don't lose the game with a decision. The risk factor is lowered. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 06:50 PM) Thought for sure when I saw you posted in here that it was going to be about mullet night from some years back. You're right, that's probably the worst, and I barely remember what even happened on the field.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 06:36 PM) I'm a little confused by when, if at all, it's necessary to tag a runner out rather than merely step on the base with the ball in your hand. Double plays or forces are usually started by stepping on second base but it seems to me on attempted steals there's always a tag attempt. Is this because it's seen to be quicker to tag the runner out or is it not permitted to get the runner out by stepping on the base in certain scenarios? You can force a baserunner (or even the batter-runner) out by stepping on the base when he's "forced" to attempt to get to the next base due to the batter putting the ball in play. A guy stealing isn't being forced to go anywhere, so a tag is required for the out.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 01:06 PM) Back in 1995, I went to this game and remembered being upset that a no-name pitcher with a high ERA completely dominated the White Sox. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CH...199507040.shtml Martinez and Newson started the game...switched outfield positions...then switched back. Weird.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 03:02 PM) I adored that moment with JR. Not nearly as much as you much have enjoyed the atmosphere at the UC last night. I hate/love you. I hate/love you too. It was f***ing epic, and draining. On my walk home, I just kept thinking, what if they lost at that same point in overtime? This whole crowd would be so much different right now, and it would have been the loneliest, most depressed walk home in a while. I told people at second OT intermission, this is going to be one of the most epic wins ever, or one of the worst, gut-punching losses ever, and there's no other option, and no way to stop it at this point. Probably would have thrown a bottle through Rock's apartment window, too (yours has the Hawks flagon the balcony, eh?) It's worth it, trust me. You'll have to do it with me sometime, it's a great way to take in a game. It's an experience. You can see perfectly fine (as you aren't the person that'll be OMG I CAN'T SEE THE LITTLE PUCK FROM HERE!), and you get to chat it up with everyone around you, mostly die-hards as well. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) Any more info on this? "We had the game," Rask said. "We were up 3-1 in the third, and then a terrible turnover leads to a second goal, a tough bounce leads to the tying goal, and we just gave it away. We've got to be better than that. We definitely didn't play our best game. We turned the puck over too many times and didn't manage the pucks good enough." "Especially going into the third overtime, you're not going to make any fancy backdoor plays," Rask said. "Especially in the last overtime, we were forcing the play a little too much. They just shot the puck, found its way in, and they won the game." -

I will always remember that. Jeremy Roenick crying got me: Ton of people ripped on him for that, but it was one of the most emotional moments for me and I'll never forget it. I absolutely started crying there. I was there in 92 crying as a kid, etc. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 12:10 PM) In a way, I feel more entitled, so to speak, to a SC than I did in 2010. In 2010, it was just unbelievable. We might have given lip service to that group being a possible SC winner, but it didn't feel real until it actually happened. Now that I know this core can win Stanley Cups, I feel like I borderline demand it, or expect it. It's a little like the Sox and the WS - 2005 was so magical (I know, the BHawks have a bit better SC pedigree than the modern day Sox) and while another WS would be so amazing, it would be a different feeling because winning WS became a new expectation of this franchise...this would have been a better analogy in a season like 2006, where it looked like we really had another WS winner on our hands. This season has been extremely enjoyable, I mean...the streak, that was fantastic. This SC playoffs has been insanely enjoyable and the SCF looks to be on a similar pace...but I don't know if I'll have such a visceral, emotional feeling like last time. ...maybe I will Well put, good explanation and I agree with most of it. The emotions have been and will be intense, but nothing can ever touch 2010 due to the circumstances surrounding it. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 11:45 AM) That 2010 team did have Burish & Buff though. Plus, the way it all just came together so quickly, I don't think anything will ever match the 2010 run IMO. Nothing will match 2010 for a lot of reasons, mainly dealing with the rejuvenation of the franchise. Don't forget that 2010 also had Versteeg and his awesome rapping. -

I'm emotionally and physically exhausted. 7 hours of SRO and it was so worth it. What a game to be at. If Horton's injury is serious, huge blow for the rest of the series. -

In the grand scheme of things, Bickell's just "a guy." He's replaceable in one form or fashion. I will always have a place for him and respect him due to this postseason he's put together, but he's done so well he's likely priced himself out of the Hawks' future, which is fair on both ends. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 01:34 PM) Back in the day when I was 16 I was basically a scratch golfer, so with the decline in skill the upgrade in equipment should help. It's just been so long since I paid attention to clubs I don't know what's good anymore.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 12:17 PM) It is meant in terms of poor play. Caulfield had a nice mistake counter in the game thread. I think it ended at about 14 and should have been higher. Agreed. Based on pure mistakes and dumb baseball, one of the worst games I can remember. You'd have a really, really hard time finding a game with that may mistakes. Much different than just getting beat in the Metrodome or blowing a lead there, etc.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 01:04 PM) Have tickets to sox game, wondering how early they will call it if things are supposed to be this bad. Zero reason to even head to the Cell. Stay home, watch the Hawks - game is on NBC!

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 12:51 PM) Has anyone bought clubs recently? I played with a buddy and some random 2-some this weekend and shot an 84, about average for me. Both of these guys were really good and commented that my clubs suck and that if I upgraded i'd easily shave a bunch of strokes off my average. I'm playing with an old TaylorMade Burner Bubble driver ($400 back in 1996-7) and a set of MacGregor clubs from the same time period without a 4 or 6 iron due to a couple of bad incidents with trees. I only get out like 4-5 times a year, so I don't want to break the bank. I've seen that last year's taylormade set with graphite shafts are $400. And I can get a driver for $150-$250. Wondering if I should pull the trigger. There's a golfsmith store over in Downers Grove that will fit the clubs too. Anyone have this done before? Of course clubs make a difference, but for me it's just not worth an expensive set right now. I got a starter set for like $200 this winter. I'm purely a recreational golfer and don't golf every weekend. I was using my Dad's old Ram set from like the 70's, pretty sweet. I've never once been on the course and thought "had I used an better quality club there, it would have been a better shot." I just compare it to when I play hockey. Me with a $200 stick in my hands makes a difference in my shot, stickhandling, etc. The average Joe out there doesn't need that stick, he'd be better off using a $50 one because the results will be the same. All this being said, you're much, much better than I am. If you're shooting an 84, you're probably at the point where the clubs will make a difference and help you out.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 12:06 PM) Why the f*** would the Blackhawks want to dump Brent Seabrook? His contract was front-loaded, worth $7 million last year and this year, while it drops to $5 million for the rest of the deal (3 more years). 3 years @ $15 million for a legit top pairing D-man in his age 29, 30, and 31 years is not only a steal - it's flat rape. He won't even be in the top 20 defensemen for 2013-2014 salary. Shea Weber will make $14 million, Ryan Suter will make $12 million, Brian f***ing Campbell will make $7.14 million, Mike Green's godawful ass will make $6 million, Jason Garrison $6.5 million. Dion Phaneuf, Brent Burns, Andrei Markov, and Chris Pronger, among others, will make at least 20% more than Brent Seabrook next season. And you think that contract is an albatross? JCM/Chili whatever you want to call yourself. Take your Q-Stache avatar and gtfo of this thread. You have earned a banishment. Wow. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 11:26 AM) Nice, I'll be there Saturday night. Get there early so you dont get stuck in a tornado before puck drop. I have Comcast, so I'm just worried about the power going out. Or we might have to be those people that bring a baby to a bar. The way this thing sounds, being at the UC might be the only way to see it...as long as the power doesn't go out there, too. This thing sounds legit crazy, 50mph+ wind and hail? Yikes. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) ZOMG WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE DISH WHO WONT BE ABLE TO WATCH THIS GAME. THE NHL IS SO STUPID FOR SCHEDULING GAMES ON PLANET EARTH WHERE IT RAINS. Seriously, how can they be expected to see games if their satellites go out? There's no way they can come up with an alternative like all of those crafty people who don't get NBCS fed to their homes on their dirt cheap cable deals. Looks like this won't be an issue for me tonight, as I'll be at the UC. Boom. But yeah, I'd bet 0% of this game comes through on the dish. 8 hours, tick tock, tick tock -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 03:21 PM) This is clearly all misdirection. Splitting up Toews and Kane would be the dumbest idea ever. You may be right...but I'm not convinced they won't be split up to start the game tomorrow. -
Wasn't Flowers supposed to be decent defensively? He looks like the JV catcher they had to put into the Varsity game due to injury.
