If you are suggesting that Everett, and Alomar are the reason the Sox did not win the division...that is just stupid.
-
Its kind of sad that our leadoff hitter makes less than A-Rods left nut.
-
I remember when he was viewed as a decent prospect...and it seems like he is at least back on the right track. Do any of our minor league experts know if he has the stuff to be a decent major league reliever in the future?
-
He is not THE problem but he is part of it. At Yankee Stadium Saturday, my dad and I laughed at how bad Shingo looked. His stuff just isn't good enough for MLB hitters. Obviously cutting him won't make us 10 games better, but right now he is clogging the roster. What is the point of having this guy on the team if you can only bring him into games that the Sox are either winning/losing by 10 runs.

Soldiers, Contractors missing 7 of the 9 are civilians. No words can do a situation like this justice.

His wife is pretty hot.

Maybe we are going to do with Cotts what we did to Buehrle in 2000, keep him in the pen for a while, let him perfect his control and get used to the bigs. Just a thought.

Philly boy is tied for first at 6 under par. Will sunday be the historic day?

Maybe with McDowell instead of Tapani in the rotation in 1996 and Lance at the top of the order we would not have fallen out of the WC race in September0. In 1997, 13 of those cleveland wins came from mcdowell, and we had 16 losses from that mother f***er Navarro, and 15 losses from baldwin.

well...f***. -
Do you know who was calling the game. Kaat and Singleton is the best crew, while Kay and Kaat are more biased. Kay is the biggest Yankee lover in the world. On his radio show he blasted a local journalist for openly rooting against the Yankees in the press box. he called it a 'horrific display of journalism, and professionalism' or something stupid like that. the yankee radio announcers are disgusting. Charlie Steiner probably wouldn't be so bad except that he rattles on and on about the great Yankee's history to prove that he belongs in the yankee radio booth (you may remember steiner from ESPN). the other guy Sterling is famous for his radio call of yankee victories "the yankees win! Theeeeeeee Yankees win!"

Bo Jackson...very nice. Bo is probably second only to bobby thigpen as my favirote sox player.
-
Rather than saying the players walked away, I should have said the sox allowed the players to get away. I did not expect the Sox to resign all of those guys. But not giving Colon the extra year sickens me. Even if he only wins 15 games every year, he pitches so many innings and he could have given us the edge in this close division. After Colon got away, I thought maybe we would keep Everett around. I was sickened when Montreal got him for 2 years 7 million (or something cheap like that). Say what you want about our offense already being deep, but with a .300-0-100 switch hitter in the order, we are probably second to only the yankees offensively.
-
Unless we are in the pennant race I think that is what will happen.
-
He could also get more money from the Yanks than JR would give him.
-
My point is that the Sox don't spend money to keep players around.

Actually McDowell had 2 productive years after we let him go. And then if he stayed with the Sox he may have had a different surgeon, and a mistake in surgery may not have ruined his career. Fernandez only had 1 productive year after we did not resign him. Johnson hit .333 and .307 in the 2 years after we did not resign him. And in 1996 he led the NL in hits. McDowell was productive for several years with the mets and for 1 year with the yankees. You never know how things would have turned out if we kept these guys around.
-
Recent history: Wells, Alomar, Colon, Everett all walk away from the sox after 1 year.
-
You mentioned 5 names. 4 of those were players who were acquired in the last year of their contracts. None of those players were resigned. In terms of going out and getting the big name free agent, that has not been done since Albert Belle in 97. The only mega-star that the Sox have resigned in the last decade is Frank Thomas in 1996(?). The list of players who got away is far greater than those who were resigned. Jack McDowell, Lance Johnson, Robin Ventura and Alex Fernandez are just a few of the big name players who we did not resign even though they still had productive years remaining in their careers.

I agree. I def. think we should hold on to Maggs. I don't think that Reinsdorf will spend the money though. It defies his history.

YASNY: I saw you want Fisk's autograph, I have a Fisk autograph story. When I was little (I think I was 4 or 5) I went with my brother and his friend (they were 10 or 11) to a card show in Westchester (I think). The reason we were going was to see Carlton Fisk who was signing at the show. My brother was a HUGE carlton fisk fan. He had all of carlton fisks cards on his night stand, he had the posters on the wall...he was a 10 year old kid and Fisk was his hero. So we get to the show, my bro has this nice 8x10 pic and we wait over 30 mins. Then we finally get to the big guy, and my brother puts the picture in front of him and says 'your my hero' (or something to that affect), I said 'hi mr. fisk'. Fisk does not move a f***ing muscle in his body. He does not look up and smile, he doesn't say 'hi' or 'thanks'. He just passes the autograph back and the guy in charge says next. What a f***ing asshole. I respect him as a player and a White Sox legend, and my bro still has the picture, and still has Fisk posters up on his walls. But I hate the bastard. My collection: Baseball- Stan Musial Harold Baines Jon Garland Kip Wells Ray Durham Frank Thomas (3) Minnie Minnoso Lorenzo Barcelo Paul Konerko Mike Sirotka Football- Emmit Smith Thurmon Thomas Basketball- Michael Jordan Authentic Jersey (possibly the greatest item i will possess...ever)
