  1. We are the cheapest large market team in baseball, and we have some really good outfielders in the system. As much as I would like to see Magglio back, I just can't see Reinsdorf forking over 70 million.
  2. I am a big Hairston fan, he is a nice obp hitter and is fast as hell. I don't know what we would have to give up though.

    I was wrong about Bush

If I am PM of Japan I try a special ops rescue mission. If you fail they die, if you don't do anything they die, but if you succeed...they live! As for what the US should do, I think we just have to ride this one out. Keep making arrests and targeting the leading insurgents to try to keep this undercontrol while Iraq builds its own governing force.

    I was wrong about Bush

The similarities in this war (humiliation, and protest at home) are caused by the American people. In Vietnam we could not fully engage in war because it would have resulted in atrocities against humanity and the environment, the global community would have been up in arms. In this war, we once again can not see our enemy, however using the tactics of total war we could end it very quickly. Bush is afraid of the political ramifications of total war, and total war would not be just in this case. Total war would totally destroy the Iraqui people's spirit, and it would eliminate almost all of the insurgents. However, American deaths would be high, civilian deaths would be high, and we would look like a bunch of assholes. Bush's political career would be over. Therefore we can not fully attack Iraq, and we will continue to chase these guys like a dog chasing its tail. Bush entered into this war with his hands tied. We can not fight Iraq to the best of our ability. A country should not engage in a war it will not fight. And it is impossible to fully fight a war that has a weak cause.
  9. I would not object to moving C.Lee back to the 2 hole like we did last year. Our lineup would still be plenty deep with Jose or batting 6 or 7.
  10. testing a very boring sig...didn't feel like starting a new thread
  11. If you sweat over the standings now, you will never survive the season

  13. Friday, Sat, and Sunday. My dad isn't letting me cut school Thursday
  14. I think we can win with these guys in our bullpen, it just needs to be used wisely. Politte is a fireballer, his weakness is overexposure, he was overexposed yesterday. We all know marte can get it done. As for Koch, I was impressed with his velocity. I think we will be fine.

  16. In a period of 15 mins my phone recieved 7 calls. I was not near my phone but saw them on the missed call list. For each call it said the number was restricted. Does this mean my phone did not have service, and therefore could not identify the number? Does it mean the other person was not in service? Does it mean that it came from a cellphone that has an unspecified number? I am really confused.
  17. Politte is a one inning pitcher, his biggest weakness is over exposure...we try to extend him to 2 and a third
  18. I would strap myself with explosives so if I start burning I blow up everything around me.

    Pre-Sept. 11

Only so much can be done though. If lives became inconvenienced by tough security before sept. 11 people would be very upset.

    Pre-Sept. 11

I bring this up for two reasons. 1-The current investigation looking into what happened in the time before Sept. 11. 2-I read a very thorough New York Times article this morning about counterterrorism and the white house leading up to Sept. 11. A brief outline of the article (not in chronological order, they are ordered pretty much as they appeared in the article): -President Bush was briefed 40 times about urgent terrorist threats -Airlines were put on high alert over the summer of 2001 -In the late summer the white house gathered domestic security orginizations and told them terrorists were preparing attacks against US interests, over 30 phonecalls that were intercepted mentioned attacks against the US. -The administration believed attacks were going to occur on US targets overseas, a CIA official said there was a 98% chance of an overseas attack. -In the seven years before Sept. 11 Bush and Clinton had been warned a total of 12 times about Airplanes being used as weapons. -No briefings during the summer of '01 mentioned using airplanes as weapons -President Bush requested a report on the terrorism involving airlines, the report concluded it was more likely airplanes would be hijacked for ransom rather than used as weapons. -After taking office, a broad plan on how to deal with the taliban was drafted. The plan mentioned using diplomatic and financial pressure as well as small covert military strikes to pressure the taliban into expelling Al-queda from Afghanistan. -Clinton officials warned the Bush administration that Terrorism would be a growing problem. -After taking office the bush administration raised the counter terrorism budget 7%. -The Bush defense department focused more on missle defense than counter terrorism. -A defense department report found that the US was not prepared to deal with terrorist attacks overseas or in the US. The overall theme was that while the administration was working on some counterterrorism plans, there was no urgency involved, until the late summer of 2001.

    Official proof

I think Kerry McCain would be a very strong ticket, and would have a strong chance of winning. It seems that lately the parties have too much pride to invite someone from the opposite party to join on a ticket...even though McCain is a liberal republican.
