I think there is some confusion, either you misunderstood me or I am misunderstanding you. What I meant was, that the WASPs that roman is blaming were not the first to trade slaves. The famous middle passage that brought slaves to the new world was not the first slave trade. If I am correct, the first group of people to have a full civilization were those in the middle east (that is where humanity came to be) and civilizations like Egypt had well documented slavery, before the people of northern europe had a society (that is where the tree reference comes in, because the white people of europe did not have elaborate society's yet) Also the Nubians who would be even more african than the egyptians had slaves too, so like you said nobody can say they didn't practice a slave trade. And make sure Finley stays in that tree for a very long time.

I am not trying to say that racism no longer exists in the United States, because there are many people who can not accept the fact that people, who look, or think differently are equal. What I meant, was that a strong majority of the people in this country no longer see color, religion, preferance, or things of that nature as a barrier. Certaintly though, those like the KKK and american nazi's think differently than the strong majority. I think the biggest barrier between people during conversations now is politcal beliefs more than anything, especially now during a time of great uncertainty over seas. I was at a service memorializing the 1 year anniversary of my neighbors passing. First of all, not all racism is color based, and I think that may have been implied in the comment by Steff that you responded to. Secondly, maybe living in the south has had a great impact on your brain, but most civilized people do respect black people, after all we are all the same. Thirdly, just because white people used to bring black people to this country in a trade that ended in 1803, and slavery in general ended 60 years after that does not mean that black people have the right to be racist towards white people. Even segregation gives them no right to be racist because segregation was not practiced everywhere, and many blacks including a prominent author (I cant think of her name, but she wrote "their eyes were on God" or something like that) protested for segregation to be continued. Don't think of Rodney king as some nice guy minding his business that was all the sudden beat to a pulp. Rodney has had continued problems with the law, and may have even provoked the cops (though their actions were inexcusable). Then just because Rodney King was beat up did not give black people the right to turn south-central into a raging inferno.

San Fransisco news papers are breaking the story, along with the boston media. Both the security gaurd and bartender of a Boston night club are saying Tim Hudson got in a fight, and the security gaurd said Hudson was throwing "hay makers" and it took 8 people to restrain him. The night club manager is denying the claims. The bartender who supposedly felt the wrath of one of Hudson's punches, was fired today. Hudson strained his oblique muscle and may miss the remainder of the postseason.
