QUOTE(shakes @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 01:34 PM) That's great to hear. Stuff like this needs more national press. Yes it does. I wouldn't have heard about it without someone posting it up here. And to think I was about to rip Griffey for not wanting to come to Chicago.

Elvis Night tonight! I'm so there. Maybe the King will help the Sox shake off the blues they've been having at home recently....

Cotts has shown that he's able to get guys out on both sides of the plate. I think Ozzie needs to leave him in longer, and not yank him in exchange for Marte or Vizcaino.

It feels good to get a win.

It fills me with anger to think that stuff like this goes on in the world every day. It's just sickening.

Ah, we'll get 'em tomorrow. This was one of the bad 60.

I remember back in 2000, that guy from WMVP (Bill something-or-other) got beaten up by a bunch of people after a night at Jimbo's. Even though I'm sure that's rare, there are a lot of people who probably have that image of the neighborhood around USCF.

Do the Sox need to look over their shoulders
Balance replied to SpringfieldFan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No need to worry about this. If they manage to pass the Sox for the best record in the AL, the Sox will still be in the playoffs. And hopefully, someone else can take 'em out before we have to mess with them. -
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 2, 2005 -> 12:39 AM) Think of it in terms of ambiguities. What does a "death to America" flag burning event mean? Unless the burner clearly defines that in his demonstration it's reasonable for the prosecution to define it in the most general & expansive terms imaginable. Let's follow thru with your example. Guy A burns the flag which inspires guy B to assault a cop. Is it reasonable to suggest that Guy A's demonstration was a message to guy B to assault the cop? Yes. Because the American flag is a universal symbol for America burning it equates to "death to America". A cop is a representation of America in human terms. In terms of the law, an accomplice must knowingly, voluntarily, and intentionally assist another person in the commission of a crime. A good example of an accomplice is the person who drives the getaway car in a robbery. In my example, I was describing a person who did not knowingly, voluntarily, and intentionally assist person B in attacking a policeman. In the eyes of the law, that is not an "accomplice" situation. I don't agree with you that burning a flag exclusively means "death to America." For starters, that's how you dispose of a torn or otherwise damaged flag. Boy scouts burn flags that have been damaged. Other people have, in the past, chosen to burn flags to criticize the government or its policies. Some people have indeed burned the flag and intended it to mean "death to America," but that's not the only possible meaning. Now, equating a policeman to "a representation of America in human terms" is a pretty big stretch. For starters, policemen are agents of the city or state, not the USA. Secondly, this person you describe, who's so possessed with rage at the site of a burning flag that he is compelled to lash out at a perceived symbol of America? I don't buy it. And I can't possibly see how you could hold the flag-burner accountable for that second person's actions.

White, black, it doesn't matter to me. I'm doing my meteor dance!

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 04:45 PM) But i heard that procedure doesnt hurt. The other procedure does, in which thwey go through the back of the neck, and cut the pipes... Even if the procedure doesn't hurt, think of what's going on there. The dog will be traumatized for life! It won't know why it can't bark anymore. There's no way to make it understand. Meanwhile, every time it tries to bark, it's still forcing a lot of air up its trachea, and that's going to put a lot of strain on the holes that have been drilled there. They'll start to stretch and possibly tear. This seems like a horribly cruel thing to do to an animal.

To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed in how the Central is shaping up this year. At this rate, our remaining head-to-head games against the Twins aren't going to be that meaningful. I was looking forward to crunch-time against them. Nevertheless, I like being up 15 games. So I'm really not going to complain.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 12:16 AM) (snip) However outside of treason, if there is strong evidence suggesting person B commited a crime as a result of the flag burning then it is reasonable to charge person A as an accomplice. It's one of the risks one takes when one commits an act equating to "death to America" for the world to see. Could you please expand on this a little? Let's just say there's a guy on the street with an American flag. Maybe he's in the Daley Center Plaza. And, saying nothing to anyone, he sets the flag on fire. (Maybe he uses the eternal flame at the plaza to ignite it.) Aside from someone coming up and kicking his ass, which technically is a crime, how would you say the flag-burner provoked anyone else into committing a crime, to the extent that the flag-burner was his "accomplice"?

I've never heard Bob Mould live, and I'm thinking about getting a ticket. I love "Workbook," although my favorite Mould is Sugar: Copper Blue.

Now that MIN and CLE are tied, it might soon have to be CLE losses we're tracking, not MIN....

Whenever Boers and Bernstein play the "uh-oh!" clip, I still crack up. :uhoh

Torii's loss, combined with the Twins' recent futility, have got the Twinks' fans all but giving up on this year. For example, check out www.bat-girl.com, a Twins site. They're despondent.

Does anybody else wanna see.... ...a meteor strike the stadium?

The people here who are disappointed with KW...

The Sox did the right thing by standing pat. I'd prefer to have seen a big bat, but realistically, there weren't any available on the market at anything resembling a reasonable price. No one else made a blockbuster deal, either, so this doesn't shuffle the deck much. I feel pretty good about the Sox' chances. -
That there's a sweep! And the Sox leave Baltimore to deal with the flames in which their season has become engulfed.

Man, seeing Sammy strike out in clutch situations just never gets old!

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) dont ever watch that. Use MLB.com. The format is better, and its just a bit slower than real life....sometimes Thanks. I'm making the switch. (Frickin' ESPN east-coast-bias!)

RockRaines- Where are you getting the game updates from? I'm using ESPN.com, and it's hella slow.

I didn't say it would keep him out of the HOF. But I think that it will keep him from being a first-ballot HOFer.

That hurts the whole "first-ballot hall of famer" campaign that's been going on in the sports media lately....
