  1. They did a special on that stupid pitch on sportscenter and they said all it is slider that doesnt slide and when the batters see it they think its gonna drop and it never does. I guess if you can pull it off it can be a pretty dangerous weapon but IMO when he gets exposure and batters get a better look at it it wont be effective at all. Like Shingos frisbee.
  2. MB really needs to step up here. Hopefully he wont be over 100 pitches in the 5th. I would like to add, I dont like Paulie in the 3 hole.
  3. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) Speaking of bias, did anyone get the fold-out season calender from the Trib last Sunday? On one side, they have the Cubs with a nice shot of Wrigley. It's packed and looks good. On the reverse is a shot of the Cell. Its maybe half full and the color on the picture is crap. I don't know what this has to do with Mariotti, but I just felt like pointing it out. Its the Tribune taking their last shots at the Sox.
  4. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 08:12 AM) So, let's say Podz suckz all month and they make this move, with Erstad in LF and Anderson in CF. What's the best lineup? Because I'm not sure who to put in the 2-slot. Would it be BA? Uribe's K rate is actually lower than Anderson's, he seems to be taking more pitches this year, and I think he can bunt, but he is a dead pull hitter especially on the infield and has low OBP's. I can't see anyone who fits the 2-slot profile (good contact hitter, low K rate, can bunt, can hit the ball consistently to the right side). Putting Gooch back there seems a shame now, given he was upset about it for 2 years and he seems OK down there now. So here is a name to consider - AJ. He can put the ball to the right side, his K rate is lower than Gooch, BA or Uribe, and his OBP last year was .333. The lineup then looks like this... Erstad LF Pierzynski C Thome DH Konerko 1B Dye RF Crede 3B Gooch 2B Uribe SS Anderson CF Now one obvious problem with this lineup is that its 3 straight lefties followed by 6 straight righties. But that seems a smallish price to pay compared the benefit. AJ did hit .270 vs LHP last year which isn't horrible, and if you sit him, you can move BA or Gooch up to the 2-hole. Also, AJ isn't exactly a burner on the basepaths, but he's not Konerko either. Thoughts? Alternatives? This is what I was thinking but Im not sure about AJ's bunting ability but he is one of the better percentage hitters we got and he gets a good amount of basehits and stuff. I know hes not fast or anything but it would be nice to have a guy in the 2 hole that can move a runner over. If they tried this I wouldnt mind seeing Erstad lead off, just not Pods.
  5. Lets trade Jim Thome to our division rival...brilliant!
  6. Its good to see that despite his health issues he found time to be an ass again.
  7. I know its extremely early and Im not jumping ship yet but it seems like were going back to the pre 05 formula and just trying to slug our way through games instead of relying on pitching, defense and manufacturing runs. Nobody can possibly say that Pods is a better defender that BA so why is he out there. You cant put all the blame for stuff like this on the coaches and manager but I really dont think they are putting us in the best situation to win.
  8. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 05:54 PM) Steve & Barry's kicks ass. "Available exclusively at Steve and Barry's University Sportswear, the premier item in the Starbury line of shoes and apparel is the Starbury One basketball shoe. The shoes retail for only $14.98, but Marbury claims that the Starbury One basketball shoes are the same as the most expensive shoes on the market. " I wouldn't doubt it. Those high-end basketball shoes are usually made pretty poorly for the price. Theyre all made in sweat shops anyway. It just depends which ones have the newest catapults and rockets and lasers in them that all the kids are gonna buy. That of course or which ever one MTV says P Diddy is wearing.
  9. Well know when the Pods situation gets out of hand when Marriotti starts saying hes the one brightspot on the team.
  10. Pods without the ability to steal makes him underly useless. His defense is bad, despite his one nice catch today, he doesnt get on base enough for a leadoff man amongst other things. Back when he could turn a single into a triple and keep pitchers on edge by forcing them to keep an eye on him is what made him worthwhile, without that hes seriously hurting the team.
  11. The 9th inning is really what pissed me off. What more can you want in an opportunity to win a 1 run close game in the bottom of the 9th than having your 2 get on base and having Thome, Konerko, Dye and Crede all have a shot to drive in some runs to win or just tie the game. If you cant take advantage of that situation in a close game youll pick up a lot of losses throughout the year.
  12. Ill admit its heartwarming and everything but those shoes are hideous. On top of that I cant stand Marbury anyways. If Big Bens are any better maybe...but these just dont do it for me.
  13. That Aldridge news is surprising because you would think for that to happen we would of had to been the team that drafted him.
  14. QUOTE(SnB @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) ^ this is usually how i think of it. Without head to head competition, you're missing one of the biggest aspects of the "big" sports. Exactly. I dont think anything can be a sport when the teams competing dont have to be in the same place to do it. I think what one team does should effect the other team.
  15. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 05:16 PM) Now, lets see whether Danks matches that. Time to update the McCarthy/Danks watch. Exactly. We'll get a better gist of this trade in game 5. Im sure BMacs first season as a starter wont go that smoothly.
  16. This should get interesting...BA is in the game!!!
  17. Seriously, Id rather see a meatball than walking in a run right now
