QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 11:09 AM) If you watch that game last night and grade Rodgers out as negative, you need to rethink how you grade players. They gave the same grade to Teddy Bridgewater who had 121 yards passing, 0 TD and 1 INT. Rodgers had 5 TD, 333 passing yards and 0 turnovers. So to them, that is pretty much the same performance. Also, the original grade they had on Rodgers was -2.2, they changed it to -0.8. So originally they had him and Jimmy Clausen having equally bad games. Phil Emery used pff to help make roster decisions so this explains a lot.

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Sep 26, 2015 -> 08:59 AM) The closest comparison might end up being the Duke Lacrosse case. The only thing we know for sure is that Kane put himself in position to be accused. His actions after that are unknown. Did he actually have any sexual contact? We don't know. Interesting soxtalk throwback thread - http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/lofiversion/...php?t48467.html I guess a lot has changed since that thread. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 11, 2006 -> 01:17 AM) IMO, false accusation of rape is probably the worst accusation around *child molesting probably overtakes it*, but these are allegations that even when proven false stick with people. I feel bad for that lacrosse team, their coach f***in lost his job because some girl lied about something with grave consequences. What a lowlife.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 01:18 PM) pretty much everything we "know" has come from reports relying on anonymous sources, right? Not really. Id say most reasonable people are basing their opinions on info that has come from her lawyer and the DA. There are however a lot of people who have deemed Kane guilty because of his lifestyle from day 1, and those people appear to be wrong but are having trouble admitting it.

QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) she was escorted to his room .... however this was release earlier by unknown sources.... so i am putting that disclaimer. Says who?

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 12:49 PM) No. The key difference is there is nothing wrong with a woman having sex in her life. There clearly has been something wrong with Kane's alcohol abuse. And this time it led to him, at the least, publicly cheating on his fiance. Wow, Im not even sure how to respond to this. First of all, who has said there is anything wrong with a woman having sex? Seriously, where did that even come from? His alcohol abuse led him to publicly cheating cheating on fiance? When did this happen? Did I miss either Kane claiming he slept with this girl or any evidence that it occurred?

They were talking about this game on the radio and asking callers when the last time fans were this confident the team had zero chance to win. For me it was absolutely 2 seasons ago against GB with Josh McCown where we actually ended up winning due to Rodgers injury but it just goes to show anything can happen. That said, I think they will lose handily, but I dont think Seattle has the offense to make this as bad as some of the bludgeoning we took last year. Unless of course they just abuse the fact we have absolutely nobody to cover Jimmy Graham, but they dont seem to want to do that.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 12:01 PM) No, it is not okay to accuse him of rape. It is okay to criticize him for his actions. His actions in general or his actions that night? If you just mean in general then I agree he should absolutely try to put himself in better situations in general, but Im also not going to judge him for liking to party in his early to mid 20s. As far as the night in question goes Im not going to say he should have had to do anything differently because I dont know exactly what he did but it doesnt appear to have been anything illegal. You still tried to justify criticizing him for this because of his past and if anyone would have done that in any other context you and some others would have been all over it crying victim shaming.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 11:58 AM) I think we all need to admit that none of us know what happened that night, and we are all projecting based on what little facts we know. What we DO know, is that bad things have happened multiple times when Kane got wasted. He needs to figure that out Ya I do agree with that Hopefully this is a wake up call and Kane is more careful from now on.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 11:57 AM) I don't like kane or the blackhawks for that matter but yeah he is getting a s*** ton of victim blaming if he is indeed innocent. Seriously, this is absurd. If he is innocent he is absolutely a victim. Being falsely accused of basically the worst thing you can do to another person from someone trying to get cash is awful.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 11:47 AM) "lol First all he did was go to scuzzy bars and try to get laid and now all he is is an irresponsible drunk asshole. " No those all go together. People can also be disappointed and angry at Kane, and also acknowledge he may not have done anything criminal. I've not tried to play detective like some here, I'm not interested, but I've said from the beginning that regardless of what happened, Kane has proven himself an asshole and an idiot. Isn't it amazing this stuff only seems to happen to assholes who think it can't happen to them? You literally are using the "well what kind of clothes was she wearing" argument here. So because Kane has gotten in trouble in the past or because he drinks its ok to accuse him of rape? Sounds like victim blaming. Hopefully Kane sues the s*** out of this family.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 11:33 AM) Ah yes, this had no effect at all on the organization he works for, his family, or fiance. Why's everybody just out to get Kane? All he wants to do is be a huge irresponsible drunk asshole. lol First all he did was go to scuzzy bars and try to get laid and now all he is is an irresponsible drunk asshole. You sure seem to know a lot about exactly what Kane is thinking and doing. As of now any effect this has had on anyone is the accuser and her familys fault. If you dont like Kane, thats fine. If you think he should drink less, thats fine. But its looking more and more like he didnt do anything criminal in this situation.

QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 11:30 AM) my problem is, if she is guilty of lying, what is the mother trying to do??? that was a plain plan of deceiving everyone. Money
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 11:14 AM) There's a lot of room between "never leave your house" to "going to scuzzy buffalo night club to get laid in offseason" It's a space many, many athletes navigate quite easily. Well considering its not really a "scuzzy" night club and you have no idea what his intentions were for going out Id say Kane has been doing well enough navigating that space for the last 5 years at least. Maybe Kane is an easier target because of his past troubles but as far as this case goes there doesnt appear to be any credibility to the accusations against him so why should he HAVE to change anything? I think everyone would agree it would make his life easier if he toned it down, but its his life and unless something changes in the next few days he hasnt broken any laws.

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 11:06 AM) http://www.nfl.com/player/carsonpalmer/2505245/profile His turnovers (INTs & fumbles lost) have been pretty high his entire career, and that's always the complaint about Cutler. I did forget the details of his departure from Cincy, though. Ya his turnover numbers were higher than I remembered (probably should have looked before I posted lol) His yardage and TD numbers were solid though, and this was before QBs were throwing for 5k yards and 40 tds every year after the rules changes. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 10:43 AM) [/b] semantics ..... being real petty here. Explain to me why anything I said was semantics, splitting heirs or how Im being petty? Im not 100% sure you know what those words mean.
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 10:29 AM) lets not try to split hairs in a statement to or for an statement you want to make. i am not saying he was guilty, all i said, trouble followed him. he did everything possible in the realms of being a young man with raging hormones and a situation where a girl with a hidden agenda, if that is the case, by all accounts, was maneuvered into this situation. hence, i said he is a magnet. why couldn't something like this happen to someone else??? Someone making fraudulent claims about someone isnt trouble following them around though. Should he just never leave his house now because trouble might be following him? He hasnt gotten in any trouble in 5 years...

In Defense of Jay Cutler

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 12:22 AM) ^This is basically my point. All QBs throw bad INTs at terrible times. (Is there ever a good time?) PManning has two pick 6s this year. He's also not considered to be great in big games throughout his career. Since the beginning of last year, Luck leads all QBs in turnovers. EManning had terrible mental mistakes that probably cost his team two wins this year. He faced similar body language criticism as Cutler prior to winning. And if not for two historically great catches, he could easily be winless in Super Bowls. Pretty sure the Giants barely qualified both times, too. Carson Palmer was considered a flop as the number one overall pick. He was run out of Cincy. He was dumped by Oakland. Now he's 15-2 in his last 17 starts. Incidentally, he threw a terrible INT right before the half last week that could have cut the Bears deficit to four before halftime (or tied the game if they had capitalized on the muffed punt). Alex Smith threw an equally bad INT before half time of the Thursday night game the week before that helped Denver get back into the game. The list goes on. I don't think Cutler is great. He's overpaid. But, he's way better than most guys out there. And, if you look at the list of QBs who have started in the super bowl, there are quite a few who are not anywhere near elite. Mark Rypien. Neil ODonnell. Stan Humphries. Rex Grossman. David Woodley. Tony Eason. Doug Williams. Ron Jawlrski. Vince Ferragamo. Jim Plunkett. Craig Morton. Jim McMahon. Etc. http://www.windycitygridiron.com/2015/9/24...k-bears-history I disagree about Palmer. He was a top 5 QB most years when he was in Cincy and iirc he wasnt run out of Cncy, he refused to play for them and retired until they traded him to the Raiders, who are the Raiders. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 08:38 AM) Kane is a walking magnet of stupidity following him. let take a look, he was going out and drink with friends. he had a chauffeur, so he would not be involve in any drinking and driving violation. yet he gets in trouble. its not that he has to grow up, but he really have to think of his pirioties in life. if he has a problem with alcohol, he may get that work on, and not publicly ..... this whole thing, regardless of how it goes, will be a eye opener for him. Id say its looking more and more like he didnt do anything wrong and he isnt going to get in trouble. So what exactly is the problem? He went out with friends, didnt drive drunk, and for all we know he didnt hurt anyone. This was all during the offseason as well. So far they have no DNA implying rape, the accusers family has more or less been caught fabricating evidence somehow leading to their lawyer to quit and now the accusers friends/witnesses dont want to testify. Unless something changes why the hell should the Hakws or Kane have to do anything?

QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 08:39 PM) This is a reasonable response. He cannot be exonerated, because he'll never be charged due to insufficient evidence, but he could still have done it. bs
-
QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 06:49 PM) Being accused of sexual assault. They can still pay him, but they shouldn't be parading him out there out of respect for potential victims. Someone who hasnt been charged with a crime doing their job isnt parading around.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 09:55 AM) I'm not ignoring that, I'm failing to see what you think that means. He showed it to his tech teacher that teacher said 'cool, but maybe you should put that away' he puts it in his backpack it beeps during his english class he shows it to his english teacher who says it looked like a bomb and gets admin involved Admin calls police ------Up to this point, maybe the English teacher is overreacting but really not a story yet! Admin may have been able to handle the situation better, but just calling the police isn't really that bad. Where does his English teacher's opinion on what it looks like become relevant or justify the administration suspending him? (let alone the police's terrible handling from start to finish) ok, I guess were in agreement
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) Which he did, but the alarm went off during another class so he showed it to that teacher. The school still acted very poorly in suspending him, but they were definitely less terrible than the police who arrested him and then questioned him alone and waited two days before announcing that they weren't going to charge him. Third time hopefully will be a charm. Just completely ignore that the fact that he was told by his teacher that his clock looked like a bomb.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 09:23 AM) Yes. To everyone in the country and the world, the reason why this is a story, and why the fault lies entirely with the administrators and police, is that upon questioning the kid and clearly seeing it is not a bomb, and exactly what the kid said it was (a clock), they arrested him. The administrators are both adults and paid to be better. Im not about to sit here and defend the police but I dont think the school did anything wrong. You conveniently ignored the link and quote I posted where Ahmed himself is quoted as saying that one of his teachers told him that his clock looks like a bomb and another told him he should probably put it in his backpack. So even knowing that when other people at the school were concerned and asking him what it was why couldnt he just explain to them why it looked the way it did since you know, it didnt look like a clock...Why couldnt he just say ask teacher x who I showed it to earlier? If he could give a reasonable non one word answer when asked about something THAT ONE OF HIS TEACHERS ALREADY TOLD HIM LOOKED LIKE A BOMB it wouldnt have happened. Clearly this doesnt warrant the kid being arrested or handcuffed but it is mind blowing that people are surprised at how the school acted.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 09:16 AM) Yes, it is possible. And when that law enforcement arrived, and he told them it was a clock, and they see it's clearly a clock, they could have done the obvious thing and... not put him in handcuffs. Problem solved. As for everything else, if he says it looks like a bomb, that sounds an awful lot like it is not a bomb, eh? So youre ok with them calling the police?
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 23, 2015 -> 07:45 AM) Bolded - he did exactly that, repeatedly and consistently. How are people missing this? Zero doubt in my mind he was treated poorly because of his identity. I can't say it is impossible his parents set this up, though I doubt it. Either way, the kid got screwed, and that is the key point here. I am glad it was exposed the way it was, to remind people that while we have a lot less racism and bigotry today than we did decades ago, it still very much exists. Did you see the picture of this "clock? Its convenient that all the SJW's on here pick and choose which parts of a long post to respond to when it fits their narrative. Well I guess I will ask again. Is it possible that this clock could look like a bomb to someone untrained in explosives? If so, is it that unreasonable to be uncomfortable and take extra precautions like calling the police? Is that seriously that big of a deal? All he said when asked was that it was a clock, just one word, wouldnt elaborate when asked. It doesnt look like a clock, why couldnt he just explain that it was a clock he made or uncased or altered or anything. Even teachers at his school told him he shouldnt carry it out in the open. Later in the day, the News reported, Mohamed's English teacher complained when the clock beeped in the middle of a lesson. When Mohamed showed her the device after class, he claims she told him, "It looks like a bomb." He was told before this happened by a teacher that it looked like a bomb...If this kids takes 2 seconds to explain what hes carrying and why it looks the way it does none of this would have happened.
