QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 12:51 PM) yeah but if everyone in the theater had a gun, then the situation would have turned out even better! QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) you guys are the best at beating down imaginary arguments. So you introduce an imaginary argument (That gun advocates are saying EVERY person in a theater should be carrying a gun) when clearly they mean if theyre licensed and trained with a firearm they should be allowed to carry it for protection, and in situations like this you may be able to prevent a tragedy if the circumstances are right. Then you go on to accuse people who dont agree with you of "beating down imaginary arguments."

Yesterday on the score they spent close to an hour trying to figure out if Kris Bryants day game struggles were caused by his light blue eyes.

Any business owners out there notice Yelp tagging positive reviews for your business as "not recommended?" Yelp seems to be turning into a cash grab these days, they constantly call our store offering to let us pay to move us up the rankings and things like that, pretty annoying.

I tried listening to ESPN1000 a few times this week and they had Ben Finfir filling in for Carmen and Jurco. That guy is a nightmare to listen to. He comes across as a meat head Cubs fan, anytime someone called in to talk about the Sox he immediately changed the topic to how well the Cubs rebuild is going and saying things like "The Sox should worry more about how to fill their stadium...." Then today, since I believe its his last day filling in, he spent most of the time talking about himself, about how the interns dont like him and stuff like that and then he brought up the same thing during crosstalk. Rant over, that guy sucks. Edit-Just checked twitter to make sure I had the right guy. Ya this has to be the guy.

I will always tip for appliance delivery unless the delivery guy is a jagoff about something.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 11:17 AM) I tried to get Packers vs Bears tickets, but had no luck. Ya it can be tough to target a specific game and get the tickets. I at least managed to get 2 tickets vs the Vikings but theyre in the corner of the end zone. Oh well, at least it shouldnt be too cold on November 1st.

Single game Bears tickets go on sale in 15 minutes for anyone interested.

Ya Best Buy shut me down

I got a slickdeals alert that Best Buy was selling $200 gift cards for $15 (Obviously some type of mistake but w/e) I ordered 3 and got a confirmation email that says its preparing to ship. Definitely not expecting to get these but if I did that would be pretty cool. Reading the thread on slickdeals and it seems like a lot of people who ordered 10 or more or used expedited shipping already got cancellation emails which I still havent got so fingers crossed.

Im not a huge comic book guy so this may be a dumb question, but unless the name is misleading, wouldnt Superman be able to dismantle Batman pretty effortlessly?

Maybe its just me but the idea of white privilege is textbook prejudice which is something that I personally try to avoid. Id imagine the SJW's who have been beating white privilege to death on the internet had excessively large silver spoons in their mouths their whole lives and thats why they cant see the other side of this debate. I dont care how many times you preface a statement with "Im not saying white people dont work hard but..." you are only seeing one side of it. Im not gonna live my life distinguishing people by their race/religion/sexual preference etc and determine which of them should feel or do what.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 05:40 PM) I'm pretty sure this conversation has veered away from the documentary that was its focus, but when talking about race in this country, I think it's important to note that, as Jenks point out, yes, being white provides a certain level of privilege over being black. I presume that everyone in this thread worked hard to be where they are - I certainly know that I did. But I also understand and acknowledge that my background - middle class with parents who valued the crap out of education - gave me a leg up in getting to where I am now. It was only 50 years ago that the Civil Rights Act passed. Policies that directly impacted generations of African Americans were phased out within most of our parents' lifetimes. To acknowledge that it was easier for my parents to obtain middle class success in America than for a large chunk of minorities is simply reality. It doesn't devalue the work that my parents did to be successful, it just acknowledges the reality of race in in the 60s. The point here (before I really start rambling) is that acknowledging that being white helps and having empathy for those who have had to (and still have to) deal with/fight discrimination is a huge and necessary step in race relations. Everything you said is fair and I agree with most of it. The issue I have is that I feel like every white person is being painted with the same broad brush (which is pretty ironic all things considered) I grew up in a pretty broken home and got nothing from my parents or family and still dont talk to members of my intermediate family. Thats why I find it offensive that its ok for people to just assume anything I have or have earned is partially because Im white. Ive been broke, harassed by police, unemployed and had to fight every day to keep my head above water and now Im constantly being told I need to check my privilege and I get to hear about all these great advantages Ive had.

QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jul 9, 2015 -> 04:02 PM) Maybe I'm naive, but I think race relations in this country might improve some if minorities made an attempt to gain empathy for their plight. Race is definitely a factor in the U.S., but how do Mexicans in this country who feel they are targeted because of their race explain the divisions off wealth and power in Mexico? Is "whitey" responsible? How about in India or China or (fill in he blank)? White people can't be responsible in those countries, too. One of the problems some white people have with minorities is that when the minorities point a finger, they are often pointing at people who are not racist. So, from the perspective of the white person, the attack is unwarranted and the white person may naturally feel defensive. A black person or Hispanic person might look at me with envy because my life must have been so great because I'm white. But, they don't know that my parents are immigrants, and they struggled to find good jobs. They struggled to feed, clothe, and educate my family. I can relate with minorities way more than they might believe, but I and many other white people don't/won't get the chance. Many minorities look at me and other white people with the same prejudice that they claim to abhor. This is a great post. I think wed get a lot further with race relations in this country if the people who are so quick to point fingers and call people racist considered a lot of these points.

Yet another "racial" confrontation with police, this time in
DrunkBomber replied to caulfield12's topic in The Filibuster
I am the last person who wants to defend cops but to me there is more to being a witness than memory recall. Id imagine police are trained to be more observant and aware of the surroundings. Theyre looking for scars, tattoos, facial features etc. They are trained in writing police reports so its probable they are noting distances, heights, builds, directions etc. Maybe a better way to describe what I mean is a cop and a civilian can see and recall the same event, but the cop is better prepared to explain and describe what happened with more detail, because of their training. -
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 10:54 AM) I only download shows and then delete them after I watch them so I'm not sure what they will actually do. My ISP said they can suspend my account if it keeps happening. Is there anything I can do to prevent that happening again or is it just basically a gamble? I also got one from comcast like 2 years ago but nothing ever happened. I read online Comcast will warn you up to 6 times before taking any action, not sure about HBO though

QUOTE (shysocks @ Jun 18, 2015 -> 12:05 PM) I would have picked Lou Piniella if he were a choice, but given the options you're crazy if you don't choose Phil Based off his career or just what he did with the Cubs? I kind of thought this was more about what these guys did with Chicago teams, Pinella shouldnt be anywhere near this list if its just based off of his time with the Cubs. -

Its pretty ridiculous that some peoples immediate reaction is to try to assign this idiot to a political party to suit their agenda. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 16, 2015 -> 07:48 PM) Not sure what greg's motivation of late is. But at least he's not one of those "My team sucks, may as well cheer for whatever team is going against LeBron" idiots. That's literally what the nba has become the last five years. The Spurs of last year and the Warriors of this year are all-time greats. But nobody really says anything about that. Did you beat LeBron? If you did, we like you. This is such a ridiculous comment. It doesnt matter what team LeBron is on, if you are a fan of a team in the east then he has broken your teams heart numerous times the past 5 seasons. It doesnt make you an "idiot" to not want LeBron to win. Are Bears fans who wouldnt want the Packers to win the Super Bowl idiots too? Are Sox fans who dont want the Tigers or Cubs to win idiots? There are rivalries in sports and you dont have to like everyone. LeBron is an all time great and is having one of the most impressive finals in NBA history, its commendable, but Ive watched him dismantle the Bulls in the playoffs pretty much every time it seems like they have a squad to make a deep run, so ya, I dont really want him to win.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 11:06 PM) You think we can win the series if it's 2-2 after four? I don't. Hawks need to win the next two and start planning the parade. You realize last series was tied 2-2 after 4 right? -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 09:38 PM) That was frustrating. I thought when Chi went up 2-1 it'd be the Hawks making this a short series. Oh well, 1-1 in the enemy arena. Now it's time for the Hawks to kick ass and go up 3-1. It's all up to them. Take care of home ice and the Cup is Chicago's. If Hawks go 1-1 the next two, hate to say it, but the Cup belongs to Tampa Bay. Ugh. -
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 3, 2015 -> 05:57 PM) Does anyone know of inexpensive honeymoon places, getting married in May of next year and want to take her somewhere nice that won't kill us financially after paying for a 20ksh wedding. I was thinking Caribbeans but really in all my past travels I've only gone over seas so don't know much about where to go down there or costs/etc. Not sure if its what youre looking for but Puerto Vallarta can be very inexpensive and has a lot to do.
