I'd be in and I would hope for a live draft but if it weren't that'd be ok too.

Really fascinating stuff to read, Tuna. Thanks for sharing.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 5, 2012 -> 08:14 AM) Regardless of whether or not you like Hawk... where are some of you getting this idea of him being exciting, or enthusiastic? They guy spends 98% of the game either leaving long gaps of silence, or droning on in some story about X being the best Y since Z. Then he punctuates that 98% of anti-enthusaism with 2% of brief explosions of drawl-laden overactive shouting. This is baseball broadcasting we're talking about. How much excitement in a broadcast can there be? It's not a fast moving sport like hockey or maybe basketball. Some people have mentioned how tired they are of Hawk's cliches. That's his schtick. Most all long-time announcers have them. Jack Brickhouse had his "Hey! Hey!" home run call. Harry Caray had his "Holy Cow!". I think a lot of younger people just see him as some old f*** and I can understand that to some degree. There does come a time when the old guys oughta hang 'em up. I remember how Harry Caray stuck around a few years too long. He was kinda painful to listen to his last couple of years. But the old guys become beloved. They're an institution. He won't live forever. I like Steve Stone but I've never thought Stone and Hawk were a good team. I wouldn't be sorry to see Stone leave. Just bring back Wimpy for Hawk's last years.

QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 4, 2012 -> 12:10 PM) I'm totally fine letting the AJ era end. I think it's time. He had a hell of a run. Blind loyalty to aging players is policy no team should have that wants to win. I don't really care if Flowers isn't a finished product offensively, I want a solid defensive catcher behind the dish and that's exactly what he is. He'll hit some bombs, call a solid game, keep base runners in check and block pitches in the dirt, all while costing very little. Sign me up for that. I feel much the same. I've become a huge AJ fan going so far to say that he's surpassed Louie Aparicio as my all-time favorite Sox player. Sorry Louie! But all good things must come to an end and I feel that it might be best if AJ moves on. I would hope that when his playing days are over he'd return to the White Sox in some capacity though.

Congrats Funky! I had a lousy year, sorta. At least it started bad, finished strong and I was happy with a 7th place finish.

QUOTE (Real @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 02:54 PM) Baseball is not an important sport in Florida. Population matters when considering if somewhere is a "Large Market", but the sport has to be relevant. Baseball as a sport is irrelevant in Florida What?! Florida has two major league franchises, about 12-15 minor league franchises and has about a century long history of spring training sights. Pretty rich history with baseball. As for the population, Florida has a large retiree population and as a rule elderly people, generally speaking, follow baseball more avidly than they do other sports. To say it's "not an important sport in Florida", eh, I'm not buying that.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 28, 2012 -> 04:14 PM) Granted I've only lived here a year now but the whole rain thing seems really overblown. There were so many days in the winter where it drizzled for a few hours in morning and the sun would come out for the rest of the day. Combine that with a large portion of plant life that stays green year round and the winter isn't all that bad. And this past summer was nicer than any I can recall in Chicago. But to each their own. Man, I'm with you. I lived in Edmonds, just north of Seattle for 2 years and I absolutely love that area. My oldest son still lives downtown in Seattle and goes to school at the Art Institute. I hope to move back in a year or two. I really miss it a lot! Can't beat the weather, that's for sure.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 30, 2012 -> 07:47 AM) Believe what you want to believe. I'm not going to lose sleep over it. You guys that never go to the park crack me up. As I've said earlier, I've spent an obscene amount of money on the Sox over the years. That's ok, I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford it. Anyway, when you are at the park as often as I have been, you get to know people. Oh, we're simply not worthy. How fortunate we are that you occasionally climb down from your ivory tower and spread your words of wisdom to the masses at Soxtalk.

QUOTE (MEANS @ Sep 28, 2012 -> 11:19 AM) yeah it's just become comical now, last night back to back innings with bases loaded and no outs, we get 2 runs, 1 off a hit batter and the other a double play... 2 things i've noticed this year: 1. we're striking out a lot. 2. when our pitcher get's 2 outs in an inning they can't seem to get the third out without giving up some hits and most of the time a run or two. For the past 20 years we rarely have a mentally tough team...something needs to change We sure have some whiffers which is kind of a sign of the times. It's not just us but christ (!) I hate the strikeouts. Your second point is one that I've noticed too. It seems to happen a LOT and I don't know if it just seems to us that way or if it really is a problem more unique to our team than to most. But it's annoying, especially when it's your closer.

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Sep 28, 2012 -> 09:57 AM) to be fair, if i remember right-- i only favored Wise because he was a veteran. my stance was --they're both bad. And next year I'll go back to hoping we rely on neither for anything. I only favored Danks because 1. He hadn't been doing too bad up to that point and I'm not even thinking of the f***ing homerun which is what everyone thought; 2. he had languished in the organization a long time and was getting his shot only to be replaced suddenly by a journeyman guy who was all of a sudden back in the organization. 3. Like you said neither is that good. The book was still out on Danks. Wise, we knew. That said, I was happy as hell to have "been wrong". Wise was unreal for awhile. Who the heck would have ever imagined DeWayne Wise would have been carrying the team for any stretch of time? That was crazy and awesome.
