  1. Frank should be a sure-thing 1st ballot guy. I think Biggio should have been elected. 3000 career hits and throughout the 90's he was a stud. Looking at his career stats, he should not be denied.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 07:01 PM) Ha. I rewatched Dark Knight Rises this afternoon, after I bought Looper. Made for a great double feature.
  3. Staying at home and watching Dark Knight Rises and Looper, neither of which I've seen. Oh, and eating a ton of snacky stuff. Having worked 20 years at the Abbey and Grand Geneva, I always hated New Years Eve, because I always worked it and dealt with drunks. Nice to just stay at home and enjoy the peace and quiet.
  4. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 02:42 PM) Bulls are losing to the Bobcats...lolz. I hate when my teams play teams on a losing streak.
  5. I am as merry as a school-boy. A merry Christmas to everybody!
  6. Ed Walsh, Luke Appling, Frank Thomas, Mark Buehrle For me, the first three are easy. The 4th could be any number of guys (Shoeless Joe, Fisk, Aparicio, Fox, Pierce, Minoso, etc.). Tough to choose, but I went with Mark.
  7. Well, I'll have to revise my Favorite current player. AJ just might be my new favorite White Sox player ever. Sorry Little Louie.
  8. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Dec 15, 2012 -> 04:18 PM) http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/moments-tha...humanity-this-y I saw this posted on another forum and thought it was appropriate after what happened yesterday.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 15, 2012 -> 02:26 PM) You can know kids have issues, but you never expect your kid to do this. I'll vouch for that. As I've said already, I have an 18 yr old daughter with Aspergers. I've always thought and still do think that if anything I'm much more afraid of her doing some harm to herself than anything at all like what happened yesterday.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 15, 2012 -> 11:08 AM) lol. greg deserved that one. I know he means well. But some of the crap he says when one of these things happens is mind-boggling. This is worse than when he said somebody in the movie theater should've rose up and stopped james holmes. Glock, rifle and shotgun be damned. LOL! I don't think it was worse than that one. I know especially in this forum and with a topic like this it can get heated and people will have varying opinions but c'mon flat out insulting someone's intelligence is uncalled for.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 15, 2012 -> 10:46 AM) Yes Greg. Had this kid gone to a Catholic school, God would have magically cured him of his mental illness and none of this would have happened. Seriously dude, my vision of you is a 73 year old man who never got past 6th grade and worked on a farm for 54 years of his life. You are so ignorant it's astounding. Nice. Isn't personally insulting a fellow poster sort of against Soxtalk policies?
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 14, 2012 -> 05:32 PM) Asperger's is a different beast. For a while, we thought my brother - coincidentally, also 20 - had Asperger's, and for all we know he might. It's a very high functioning form of autism where the person has some difficulty expressing themselves socially, they fixate on one hobby extensively for a period of time, and then they simply forget about it and pick up something at times to the detriment of the previous hobby (a hamster will no longer be fed, a car will remain on blocks, etc). They also will talk to you ad nauseum about said hobby and won't detect the signs that you aren't interested or that you are unknowledgable of the topic itself, and it can frustrate them when they don't feel they are getting even basic attention even if you are spending as much time with them as you can. If the person doesn't feel they are getting the attention they deserve, they can act out violently and irrationally. I have an 18 yr old daughter with Aspergers. You totally described her, well except for acting out violently, but irrationally, yeah for sure.
  13. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 07:55 AM) Ravi Shankar died yesterday at age 92. His performance in the film Monterey Pop was mind blowing. RIP
  14. Yeah I liked him though I'm not sorry he's gone. He was at least an improvement over Morel and provided a little excitement last year. Going forward though, I think it's best he's moved on.
  15. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 02:20 PM) Oh, and one more thing, as silly as it sounds, I loved Andy the Clown. He was a fan in the mold of Fireman Ed. Someone who could rally the crowd without being a caricature of himself. GOOOOOO YOOOOOOUUUUU WHIIIIIIIIITE SOOOOOOOOOOX! LOL!! I always thought Andy the Clown was pretty cool too and my dad had a set of pipes to rival him. I loved when he would yell, "C'MON HERSHBERRRRRGERRRRRR!!!!!!!". That, and " MOOOOOOOOOOOSE!!!!!!!".
  16. I'm honestly not quite sure why I chose to like the Sox. I think it was mostly because of Louie Aparicio. I was 6 when he was a rookie and that was about the time I became a fan. I had a bit of a speech impediment as a kid and my parents claimed the first thing that they could understand what I said was "Louie Aparicio". What's pretty weird is how I hated the Cubs right from the get-go with no family influence at all. My dad, I'm pretty sure liked the Sox because of me, not the other way around and his dad (who died before I was born) was a Cub fan. My dad was a pharmacist and kind of a workaholic. He never found the time to take me to a game until I was 12 (Aug. 1962). It was a night game and Early Wynn lost to Jim Kaat and the Twins 2-0 but man the thrill of seeing Comiskey Park for the first time in person (and in color!!...ahh the days of black and white tv) was unforgettable. After that, my dad took me to a lot of games. When I was about 14 I started ditching school now and then and going to games on my own. Great memories!!
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 10:49 AM) We thought that prior to his last contract, so I'll go with "who knows". Exactly. Most everyone thought he was as good as gone last winter. Anyway, congrats AJ! I hope he stays.
  18. A part of me wants to drop out. I don't want to play in an 8 team league. The teams would be stacked, not fun to my way of thinking. But, I don't want to screw everyone involved over so I'll hang in there. Sure wish some more people would join up....fast.
  19. Russell Means dies at 72; American Indian rights activist, actor One of the leaders of the famed 1973 occupation of Wounded Knee, he helped thrust the plight of Native Americans into the national spotlight. Among the films he was in were 'The Last of the Mohicans' and 'Natural Born Killers.'
  20. George McGovern dead at age 90. In 1972, I voted for him.
  21. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 08:25 AM) i think the stadium's location is always going to be an issue, unfortunately. it isn't going to become magically convenient to access nor is there likely to be development to the surrounding community that makes it a destination for people who are casual baseball fans. This is it in a nutshell. The ballpark location has a couple of things "wrong". There's the bad southside slummy perception in many peoples minds. The neighborhood is scary for the tourist or the suburbanite. Don't know if that will ever go away. Then to cater to the modern day fan you have to have the restaurants, bars, things to do. All this aside, since neither of those things is going to change any time soon, you better be putting out a winning team.
  22. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 04:20 PM) Chicken or the egg question. You could argue that roaming instructors help develop better talent, and better talent makes your major league team better, which in theory should draw more fans to the big club. I personally don't think having the White Sox in Kane County would have considerably. I think this because the "average" fan gives a damn about prospects. Further, I grew up in the western burbs and there just are not as many Sox fans out there, as say, the south suburbs. I don't see south suburban fans driving all the way to Geneva to catch a minor league game. I guess I just disagree with your premise. If winning this year doesn't bring the fan base out to the game and "develop new fans" than why do you think having a low A affiliated team in Kane County would? But a minor league affiliate in the western suburbs could help to develop more Sox fans out there. It wouldn't hurt.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2012 -> 01:11 AM) You simply can't fix the Sox attendance problems. Baseball doesn't want to fix them. Yankees can't even sell out for first game of ALCS. WOWWWWW http://sports.yahoo.com/news/no-show--yank...oving-fans.html Face facts: Baseball is not a sport meant to have these kind of ticket prices. There are too many f***ing games. It is simply not worth the experience to pay this kind of money to go to a damn baseball game and pay 8 dollars for a pop and 10 dollars for a Miller Lite. I repeat the Yankees had 6000 or more empty seats tonight. In a city that large. Shouldn't that tell you something, baseball owners?? You tried to gouge the fans of New York for ridiculously priced playoff tickets and they said, "f*** you. We'll watch it on TV." PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD TO GO TO THE GAMES. Guess what owners? You don't need to sign Pujols for 100,000 billion dollars a year if it means you have to raise ticket prices a ton to pay for him. You don't have to pay Zach Greinke 900,000 billion this offseason if you have to raise parking another 10 bucks a car to pay for him. Guess what owners? The Angels didn't even make the expanded playoffs!!!!! Jerry keep raising those parking prices. What a f***ing joke. p.s. and yes I've read some of your posts about how the Sox would rather have 25,000 at these ridiculously high prices than 40,000 at lower prices. Good for them. They and all other teams have helped ruin a great game. Get used to playoff games and World Series not being sold out. We're at that point if New York can't sell out a playoff game. Tell me I'm wrong. I think you make some great points, Greg. Best of all being that baseball because of the amount of games played is not the kind of thing the average joe can very often attend any more. It hasn't always been that way. Sad that it is now. As for all the talk about moving to another location, ideally yeah that'd be great. However, it's not at all realistic to think it will happen any time soon. Bottom line, I think baseball, not just the White Sox, is in trouble. To repeat what Greg said, PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD TO GO TO THE GAMES.
