  1. For the right price, seeing Crede own the Cubs 17 times a year in a Brewer uniform could be fun. Watching Iguchi thow it from third to first on three bounces would be un-fun.
  2. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:45 PM) Why, because Fukudome isn't a "speedster" ?? Don't you know that Ozzie lusts for speed at the top of the line up. For God's sake, we wanted Juan Pierre last off season. We haven't even discussed whether Fukudome qualifies as a grinder.
  3. SLightly OT, signing Fukudome or Rowand still does not give us a leadoff hitter. Unless Richar or OC is batting lead off.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:38 PM) There's some talk that the Cubs are trying to get either Bedard or Brian Roberts. If the Cubs were to sign Fukudome (which all along, I've been told it's 95 pct likely) and then trade for Roberts, you're looking at a terrific offensive team. But they still can't find any takers in a trade for that goat ...
  5. QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:35 PM) How can we get Cabrera if he was traded to Detroit with Willis already?
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:32 PM) The Twins really don't need a catcher. Ok, so the CUbs don't have s***. But at least if the White Sox could create a buzz (lol) for Cabrera, The cubs can pretend to be contenders for a pitcher they really could use.
  7. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:27 PM) Who would the Cubs have that would spark Minny's interest on the level of a Hughes/Cabrera combo from NYY? Felix Pie obviously, but beyond that, I don't think Hill or Marshall would catch the Twins interest, they don't exactly have a place to play Soto, they've lost a ton of draft picks the last couple years by signing so many FA's so their lower levels aren't exactly stocked, I don't see how the Cubs could even come up with as good of a deal as we could for the Twins. Just throwing things out here, Pie, Soto, and Marmol would be a good start for the best pitcher in baseball.
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:10 PM) The Cubs have supposedly told Fukudome's agent they will outbid anybody. I realize we are talking about the Cubs here, but why aren't they making a play for Johan. They get 3 milllion sheep every year, now second highest ticket prices. The Cubs would dominate the NL for years with Johan. But I guess that makes too much sense. Instead, they spend money on a guy that has never played an inning in mlb.
  9. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:44 PM) I made it after seeing yours. FYI, my sig is also a carp which is a traditional bottom-feeder scavenger, like a GM that signs Darrin Erstad.
  10. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 07:31 PM) I really hope the rumor involving the Sox isn't ture because I want Fields to play third base. Santo, love the sig. "The Old Man and the Sea" Reference fits so well in reference to the "big fish" stories, it's almost scarry.
  11. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 06:40 PM) Well if KW is 0-2 on the REAL 'big fish' who the hell is left? We still need a leadoff hitter, Scotty Pods / green
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 06:30 PM) The solution is simple: the Tigers want to sign Cabrera to an extension, and we need a CF. Can we trade Ozzie for Granderson? Fathom, you had my vote for GM about a year and a half ago.
  13. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 06:12 PM) Or a couple years when he's in his mid 20's, and just about to enter his prime. Of course that's if he doesn't sign a new deal with them (which is what I'm clinging to right now). If he is a FA in two years, KW has yet to show the ability to sign a top free agent. But then again, he will have two years to learn.
  14. Kenny can always sign Miggy a few years down the road when he is say ... 35 and a free agent.
  15. I think the announcement is Mr. Reinsdorf wishing us all a Happy Chanukah, one day early.
  16. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:29 PM) Maybe we can entice them with Broadway, the guy we drafted because he would be quick to the majors and be a trading chip for a team going for a championship. Actually, I was thinking that hot prospect Andy Gonzalez put us over the top.
  17. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:26 PM) Yep, just posted it. Jeesh, what a crazy 40 minutes that just was....something still doesn't smell right... ... that's Juan Uribe.
  18. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) KW has now got played by Hunter and the Marlins he must like the feeling of getting used! ... but this is the time of year that Kenny's baseball knowledge shines through.
  19. Wow, we have lost the division in December.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 08:16 PM) I watched most Brewers games last year, and Capuano was just awful. He would just lose his control out of nowhere, and then give up a few extra base hits. The worst part was he was getting a lot of run support early. I will second Fathom's hatred for Capuano. Stay very far away Kenny.
  21. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 07:26 PM) I know what you're saying, and it's valid. I guess the way I look at it is the Sox clearly came in with a plan this off-season, and obviously Hunter was a part of it. I think it's pretty clear the offer made wasn't just to blow smoke up our asses, but it was an offer the Sox thought was legit, and going off of what Hunter said after he signed with LAA, he thought he was going to the Sox. Clearly there is money there, and money the Sox would have been ok spending. Lets hope we see some of it in action. I see where you are coming from too. (It is nice to have a polite disagreement, eh? I genuinely appreciate it. Could we keep this as a model for others?) In reality, I would love to see a big free agent signing this year or down the road. I just do not think that guy is out there right now.
  22. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) I got into with someone over at Cheats blog, but why do you see the Sox spending no moeny this off-season? Granted, the Sox FA in the past doesn't give much hope, but it's a basic fact the Sox had a 5/75 million dollar deal on the table to Huter. Obviously, there is money to be spend, and they are willing to spend it. Not claiming to have inside info, but just based on the current payroll and KW eternally waiting for the market to balance out. Sox will need to "overspend" because every other team is. If you do not overspend, you end up with Darrin Ertad as the starting CF. I do not mean it as a slight to the organization. I would not have paid Torii the money, etc. I don't think the White Sox will see somebody to overspend on.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 07:13 PM) Let's hope not, cause we'd be lucky to come in 4th place in the AL Central. People seem to forget just how shaky our 3/4/5 is in our starting rotation. Fathom, No faith in Gavin Floyd? /green ... I have trouble seeing KW spending on anything but bullpen the rest of the off season. Dumping Cred and Uribe for marginal prospects in probably all that I can see happening.
  24. one and done. although small bullpen addition(s) may be possible.
  25. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 06:52 PM) Fuk isn't going to happen. Looks we have our LF right now. Agree 100%. Based on the franchise history of signing big free agents (all 3 of them in the last 30 years) there is virtually no chance in hell this happens when payroll is already at 100 mil. I suspect the White Sox already have most of the 2008 pieces now in place.
