White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics
Greg The Bull Luzinski replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) For some reason the lights are on at USCF right now. Perhaps they are using it in the winter months for public executions. -
QUOTE(Linnwood @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) I guess that is what I am asking. (Also, is the Sox farm system really that bad? I know people like to b****... but like how would one rank it with the rest against the rest of MLB?) Don't have a source, but I believe only the Astros were ranked below us in a recent poll. But after parting with our three brightest ...

QUOTE(Linnwood @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) Wasn't De Los Santos the Sox's #1 overall prospect? If so, seems like a lot to give up. Being the #1 prospect in the White Sox system is a lot like being the best athlete in the special olympics. Compared to the criteria of the White Sox farm system, he may be the best, but where would he rank in a mid to high level famr system?

FWIW, I think Billy Beane is going to pick up some serious votes in the Iowa Caucus tonight. -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:16 PM) Swish should work on his uppercut finish to his golf swing at the cell. Hit the concourse contests. LMAO, I miss the Greg Walker ripping session of the season. -

QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) why'd we trade for quentin then? You assume there is logic in KW's moves. This Rebuild/Spend on Big Free Agent/Be Happy with what you have/Trade the Farm off-season lacks logic. -

And for the record, ... Greg Walker is still our hitting coach. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) Ramirez will not be starting for this team on opening day, unless Richar loses a leg or something. ... There is presidence for Sox players losing limbs in the off season, so watch what you say. -

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) oh! And to make things worse, we don't even have a second round pick! If it isn't hard enough to get a couple good prospects from the draft, try doing it without a 2nd round pick. Meh, KW would probably just draft some 30 year old high schooler anyway. -

BearSox, How much longer are going to still be "attracted to Ryan Sweeney"? -
QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) KW doesn't know which direction to go. Rebuild or play for this season? What's the point of developing guys if you never use them? When you lose 90+ games with vets who are past their prime and you have a bloated payroll; the last thing you do is trade your top 2 mlb-potential arms for a guy who - granted, is a good player - is not a solution to your age/payroll problems. He should have dumped Contreras, Dye, Konerko and Thome and rebuilt. I can handle a future of 3 or 4 years of 90 losses if you are making a considered effort to rebuild, but KW is not. DING DING DING! ... and that is why I voted no.

... on another level, how could Brian Anderson not be included in this deal. Even with Sweeney being included, you know KW is looking for an excuse to dump BA and it is not as though BA for Johnana Santana is out there. -

If you have ever been at work, or perhaps at home, and sat down to take a crap only to find that you sat in somebody else's piss ... well that's the feeling I have right now. The little glimmer of hope we had left, not that it was much, is gone from our farm system. I have to wonder if the White Sox will develop another player during the rest of KW's tenure. -
White Sox hope to rise from the ashes in 2008

I have a suspicion that KW has another signing planned right around Soxfest to give some of the sheep a warm fuzzy feeling that we have a chance of finishing out of 4th place. -

I don't understand the philosophy of trading our already anemic minor league system for essentially the same player we already have in CF except older and and more experienced. Not only does this seem like shuffling deck chairs in the Titanic, but it seems to be getting the same chair at a more expensive price. Adding somebody just for the illusion of progress/movement is just plain stupid. -
The White Sox and Alexei Ramírez agree to 4 year deal
Greg The Bull Luzinski replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(The Beast @ Dec 31, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) Is there a reason that there's been no activity as of late? Tell me if I'm wrong, but do the Sox have two shortstops, a gap in the rotation left by Garland, no leadoff hitter, no centerfielder, and no confirmation of this Ramirez deal, while Crede is still here. "What's the dilio?" I believe there is usually an unofficial moratorium on deals/transactions between the Christmas holiday and the New Year. This is not to say KW should not made to work like one of Santa's elves during that time. -
THIS DATE IN SOX HISTORY: DEC 24TH/Raines
Greg The Bull Luzinski replied to StatManDu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I still remember what exciting Christmas Eve news it was that the Sox acquired Raines. Also interesting sidenote that two of the players in Christmas Eve deals Calderon and Carlos Martinez are now dead. -

Wow, I am kind of impressed KW signed him. Was the sales pitch, " sign the contract, or I will freeze you in carbonite and send you to Jabba the Hutt ... I mean Castro" -
Andy Gonzalez signed by the Indians
Greg The Bull Luzinski replied to RME JICO's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 21, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) Andy Gonzalez actually led off for the White Sox. Its cherry picking but take away 4 games he hit .138. I am not sure "cherry picking" laws apply here. Andy's stats suck. Cherry picking them makes them suck more. More computation in computing his stats may be the only way to make them look good. -

... if they only they had Andy in the ALCS, ... the Indians would have choked more softly. -
Prediction: KW will be among the highest bidders but Prior states that he would rather sign with the Expos.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) I'd consider this offseason a good one if KW finally concedes defeat and goes into rebuilding mode. And that is about as likely as that squirrel in your avatar walking out of your screen and biting your eyes out.
