  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) Play Wise tomorrow. He deserves to get benched for that. Screw that. I would bench him right now. He has to get his head out of his arse. Send him an early message Robin.
  2. QUOTE (heirdog @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) When was the last time the Braves actually gave up a top (elite) level prospect that actually panned out? I really can't think of one...Andy Marte, Jarrold Saltalamachia, Tyler Flowers. Those guys really seem to know or tout their prospects well and package them in trades. So I think we go ahead and trade Flowers because the Braves gave him to us and it was for Javy "Freakin'" Vasquez so you know he can't be all that good. Neftali Feliz and Elvis Andrus for starters. Both of them plus Slaltamachia and Matt Harrison were traded for 3 months worth of Teixeira.
  3. QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 06:48 PM) I would assume they would be selling alcohol at the time. Why would anyone stay there after the game otherwise? There was something similar to this outside Nationals Park in D.C. when I went, problem was the area around the stadium is not developed at all and there were literally no other bars to walk to after the game so their "Bullpen" I think it was called was just packed and the worst part was they only served the beers at the bar as far away from the entrance as possible (there was a bar/stand right by the entrance but only had water/pop). I'll admit I haven't been to the Cell in a couple years, but don't they have last call in the 7th inning stretch? If they do, wouldn't serving after the game totally defeat the purpose of this.
  4. So they're going to be open for an hour after the final out. I'm assuming they're not going to be selling alcohol at that time?
  5. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) Bringing in Pedro would allow KW to make Hudson available again if he can add another bat. I don't see Kenny acquiring Pedro without some sort of decent backup plan. Therefore I don't see Hudson going anywhere under that scenario.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 11:02 PM) Baseball is a game where stats matter. You could never do that. You get one challenge. If your challenge is correct, then you don't lose it. Good point, I never thought of it that way.
  7. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) I'd be fine with some sort of challenge system. But no need for the game to be run by robots. However, I'd love to see a robot fight Eric Cooper. My god he is awful, even though that call benefited us, it just pisses you off that someone can be that bad. At least he is consistently bad. What I would like is 2 challenges. If you lose the challenge, you lose an out.
  8. QUOTE (GordoTheGreat @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 11:37 PM) I'm thinking Langerhans will walk-off, because his name's very weird. Ha! My roomate said the exact same thing.
  9. Out of curiosity how many guys are there that are strictly DH's? Hafner? Ortiz is pretty close, but he has played a few games at 1b. I've never been a big fan of the dh-only player. I've always like the flexibility of rotating 2-3 guys in the dh spot.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 10:42 PM) What would Pods have done on the play? We know what many say BA woulda done; what about Pods? He would've tracked it down, scaled the fence, have his glove up in preparation for a catch, and have it hit right off the top off his head to the 3rd row for a homer.
  11. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) Pods bunting there is puzzling. I know he was trying to get a hit, but the pitcher had given up hits to 7 straight batters. Swing the bat. I came on here to say the same thing. I don't get it either. The guy is struggling to get outs since the error. Why give him a free one? I wonder if it was Ozzie or Pods making that call. I know he was tryinig to drag it, but still.
  12. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) Thanks for the insight. We have a pretty large group (35) of people in their mid-twenties. Looking forward to heading up to the Good Land! Definitely go down to Water St. then.
  13. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 11:39 AM) Anyone know of the good bars to head to Saturday night? I know riverwalk is the place to be, but what bars in particular. So many bars, so little time. Depends on how old you are. Bars on Water St. cater to a lot more college aged kids. McGillycuddy's, Brother's, Duke's are pretty popular and usually pretty crowded. With Marquette and UW-Milwaukee done with school it might be a little less packed. If you're a little older you might wanna head to Brady St. It has a quite a few good bars-Wolski's, Nomad's, and Hi-Hat come to mind. Most bars on Brady are usually less loud, less crowded, and more tame. Or you could drive another hour west and go out in Madison. I highly recommend going up there at least once in your lifetime.
  14. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 09:25 AM) Where do you see this? 20% chance of rain tonight, scattered showers 40% chance of rain on Saturday, 72 and clear on Sunday. The Weather Channel. On Thursday afternoon it had 40% chance of storms on Sunday so that obviously changed. It still says Tonight: Overcast with showers at times. Low around 55F. Winds NE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40%. Tomorrow: Rain showers early with isolated thunderstorms developing later in the day. High 67F. Winds ENE at 5 to 10 mph. I live in a Milwaukee burb and it's really nice out right now.
  15. The Brewers are my 2nd favorite team and I've been to about 40 games at Miller Park and tailgating is a blast up there and I really like their ballpark. Unfortunately I don't think the weather's going to hold up for tailgating though. Supposed to rain tomorrow night and storm on Saturday and Sunday. The good news is they have a roof.
  16. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 04:35 PM) But, but, but Wise told us booing fans not to blame KW and Ozzie. Well duh. What the hell is he suppose to say to that queston? Even if he says "no comment," everyone would imply that he thinks the blame falls on management and thus be in the Sox doghouse forever.
  17. Does anyone know if Stone was ever offered any managerial positions or at least a bench coach? It's pretty ridiculous how many times he's right. What a baseball guru.
  18. QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 12:24 AM) Dec. 8: Hillsborough sheriff's deputies are called to Dukes' home after he fights with NiShea Gilbert. She says he threw a remote control at her. Prosecutors later drop the charges against Dukes. Jan. 30: Dukes calls Hillsborough sheriff's deputies after a fight with Gilbert, accusing her of spraying him with an unknown substance from an aerosol container. He tells deputies he wants to document the incident but doesn't want to prosecute. March 16: Gilbert files for child support from Dukes for their son. A judge orders Dukes to start paying $222.26 per month at a later date. Dukes is already $23,337 in arrears, and the debt is factored into his monthly payments. April 26: Gilbert calls Hillsborough deputies and says Dukes is harassing her and making threatening phone calls. No arrest is made. April 28: Gilbert files for a protective order, also known as a domestic violence injunction, against Dukes, accusing him of peppering her with telephone calls threatening to kill her. She said she also receives threatening calls from other members of his family. A judge denies her order. Oct. 12: Gilbert calls Hillsborough deputies and says Dukes threw a soda can and a candy jar at her. No arrest is made. Oct. 15: Gilbert files for another protective order against Dukes. Oct. 28: A judge grants Gilbert's order and bars Dukes from contacting her for one year. Feb. 27: Dukes marries NiShea Gilbert. WTF?
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 05:31 PM) I was getting at that earlier. Unless Wise performs a miracle and becomes Rickey Henderson Jr. he's going to get quite a beatdown from the home crowd, which really is unfair and I hope KW and Ozzie realize that they are the people responsible for this and the booing is indirectly directed (if that makes any sense) at them. Dewayne Wise, who seems like he's a pretty good guy, is going to have to go through hell because of their decisions. Do Dewayne a favor and move him to 8th or 9th in the line up if he must play. He will have a lot lifted off his shoulders and will give him a better shot at success. The guy is going to try to change those boos to cheers and try to hit 3 or 4 homers in one AB. That will not work. Its only going to get uglier if they keep him at the top. Good post, I was gonna say something very similiar, but you put it in better words. All the radio talk shows berated him all afternoon too. It's getting to the point where I'm really feeling bad for the guy, because he does seem like a really good guy who's just doing his job and doing the best that he can. He's just put in a postion to fail. If he starts starts to half a_ss groundballs, miss signals, beat his wife, abuse his kids, torture dogs, or has a monster ego that I'm not aware off, berate him all you want. Until then shutty. ;
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) Wise should be happy he's getting a chance to be an everyday player and that the Sox have let him play some baseball. At the same time, he's in a position where he can do nothing but fail. There is absolutely zero chance that Wise should be starting and leading off for any baseball team, let alone one that intends on contending. Its not his fault he's in a spot where he can't succeed nor is it Ozzie's fault that he was given zero options for the top of the order. I understand he wants to keep Getz out of a pressure situation early, but ultimately Ozzie might not have that leeway and I really can't blame Ozzie for not wanting BA to leadoff cause he's still got a long ways to go as well. I don't blame Ozzie, I don't blame Wise, I blame Kenny. I still like Kenny though, but the in-house options were plain bad. Agree 100% and I still like Kenny, but people should be taking shots at Kenny, not Wise, for not finding a better option.
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) Completely agree and it goes in line with a post I just made in the wise thread. Yeah, I actually put this in the wrong thread.
  22. Instead of taking shots at Wise maybe we should be taking shots at the general manager for not finding a better option. Is it really Wise's fault he is on this team? He's a .214 career hitter, what do you expect.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 02:20 PM) The haters have gotta admit. Two runs in four innings isn't bad. Carrasco would have given up as many; Richard probably more. If Lance can go one more inning w/out a run, it was a succesful game for him I'd say. Let Carrasco take over in the sixth and see what he can do. And 1 of those runs should've been unearned.
  24. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 01:55 PM) CQ is getting a ton of deserved MVP talk, but JD should be getting some too Was just going to post that.
  25. Anyone catch Javy about to fall asleep on the bench?
