  1. What is the pitching matchup tomorrow for Cleveland/TB ?
  2. The following pitchers are on the playoff roster: Mark Buerhle, Jon Garland, Freddy Garcia, and Jose Contreras. Dustin Hermanson, Bobby Jenks, Neil Cotts, Cliff Politte, Luis Vizcaino. The following pitchers should be on the playoff roster: Brandon McCarthy, Damaso Marte Pitchers On the Bubble: El Duque Hernandez The followign position players are on the playoff roster: A.J Pierzynski, Chris Widger, Paul Konerko, Tadahito Iguchi, Juan Uribe, Joe Crede, Pablo Ozuna, Scott Podsednik, Aaron Roward, Jermaine Dye, Timo Perez, Carl Everett The following position players are on the playoff roster bubble: Willie Harris, Geoff Blum - The way I see it there are 2 roster spots for 3 players (Hernandez, Harris, Blum). Agree or disagree ? Other thoughts ? - Are Brian Anderson or Ross Gload eligible for the roster ? ? Any other considerations ? - Anyone else I'm missing here ?
  3. This really doesn't seem that difficult to figure out. The White Sox don't plan on signing Konerko unless it's to what they offer. As far as we know, they haven't been willing to talk during the season with him, and Kenny Williams keeps talking about a low-quality free agent market, which means that the best free agents, like Konerko, are going to get bigger contracts, since more teams are fighting for less talent. Expect him to get to the Angels/Dodgers or one of the NY teams. They will blow away anything the Sox offer.
  4. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) Correct, and if we tie with the indians, there will be a 1 game playoff at Cleveland on Oct 3, Monday for the title Thanks again! So, in reality, 6 is more-or-less the magic number since we clinch outright then.... Does anyone have the pitching matchups for the Tigers series ?
  5. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Sep 25, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) AL CENTRAL:5 WILD CARD:5, but technically it is 3, because the yanks and red sox will play each other 3 times, and one team has to loss atleast twice. If we win 3 more games we would clinch a playoff birth Thanks! One other question. If we get the Magic Number Down to 1, does that mean, we clinch at least a tie for the division ? And 0 means we win it outright ?
  6. After Sunday's action, what is the magic number for the division ? for the wildcard ?
  7. Well, I've heard/read it a few times now..I think if the White Sox play .500 ball the rest of the way out, Boston has to go 8-2 just to tie us...So, in the spirit of thinking positive, it would seem nearly impossible for us not to at least make the playoffs.
  8. Thanks for the answers guys! I have club seats for Game 2 so I was just wondering if they would no longer apply should they make the wild-card instead.
  9. Would homegames Game 1 and 2 be honored still, and Game 3 be null and void ? OR Would homegames Game 1 and 2 be resold ?
  10. QUOTE(thomsonmi @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) I don't know how last night's game can't make you freakin' nuts. I am so sick and tired of our utter inability to get clutch hits. This team's offense just plain sucks. On the other hand, I'm not giving up. We are still in the lead and as long as that's the case I will be hanging in there and watching every minute of every game. Maybe that makes me a pathetic loser maybe it just makes me another sad White Sox fan. Last night's game made me extremely pissed...to have the bases loaded, 1 out, and you can't get a guy in, that says it all....I'm grasping at straws right now hoping this ends well.
  11. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Sep 23, 2005 -> 12:42 AM) You can't think like that, That's the trouble you can go on the filed defeted in your own mind even before you face the guy. Yes Johan is good, But BMac pitched his ass off and deserved a win or at least for the team to win. we had our chances against a wild Rincon. Dye and Uribe swung at every damn pitch. And don't get me started on Carl "I see 3 pitches" Everett I can think like that, but I would hope the players think they can win any/every game....I was just coming at this from a positive angle.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) I thought we'd lose this game, but once you have the opportunities we had to win this game, it became an awful loss. A win over Johan at this time of the season would have been huge. At this time of the season, you need to win games, no matter how ugly the win is. I'm with you - the game should have been won. Anytime you're in a pennant race, and the game are this crucial, if you have the lead going into the 7th inning, you had better win that game. Saying that....I'm trying to revert to my pre-game thinking of Santana is probably going to shut us out again.... So now, we're past Santana, and we have a 1.5 game lead with 7 games left before we face Cleveland. It's now or never. We're not going to face any more aces from Minnesota/Detroit, so I think it's imperative that we go 5-2, at the minimum in those 7 games - that would put us at no worse than a tie (should Cleveland win out before facing the White Sox). Anything less than 5-2, and they are asking not to make the playoffs - they've already lost 10 of 14 - now's the time to make their case for the playoffs. We can't depend on the Indians losing to the Royals or Devil Rays - it's up to us to take care of what we can control, and that's beating the Twins and Tigers coming up.
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 22, 2005 -> 10:27 PM) It's a 4 game series I think he meant 3 out of 4... Splitting the series with Minnesota probably isn't going to cut it since Cleveland never loses.
  14. Ok...I think 99% of realistic Sox fans went into tonight's game vs. Santana/Twins, and thought we'd lose again, and probably a similar high percentage also thought the Royals would lose tonight to Cleveland..... So, in my positive spin, that's exactly what happened. So, in an effort to forget the fact that we couldn't score runs with opportunites late, and that Bobby Jenks is failing as a closer, I come out of this night having what I expected to have happened happen. Now, let's regroup and take the remaining 3 games vs. Minnesota. They are really the perfect team for us to be playing. They don't score many runs, which takes the pressure off our lineup - instead of having to match Cleveland's offense, we should be able to win these games scoring under 5 runs.
  15. Let us know! Latest I've heard is nothing new - meaning it won't be.
  16. Are you insane ? Blowing a 15.5 game lead on August 1st is a disaster. There's no way to sugarcoat that, it's a disaster - should that happen.

    Idea

Unless Garcia doens't pitch Monday, I don't think there's anything Ozzie does. He likes his 5 man rotation staying in order for their routine.
  18. QUOTE(HoosierSox @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 05:16 PM) As Hawk says: "Its time to cinch it up and hunker down."
  19. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) Hey Welcome aboard.. only been saying this since we signed him to the overpaid deal. I'd have preferred to sign him to a 1 year deal...Don't really have a problem with him as a #5 starter, but McCarthy is clearly outpitching him, and now's not the time for Ozzie Guillen to be worrying about El Duque's feelings. Put the guy in who can help us win games.
  20. As bad or inconsistent as the offense has been, this team has won OR lost because of it's starting pitching all season. If you're going to question the White Sox offense, my first criticism has to be they don't have a #3 hitter. If they had a classic #3 hitter, this lineup would be a lot better.
  21. Tonight's game is huge!!! Look, every game is important, but we have a 2 game losing streak, and have Santana tomorrow, so this could easily be a 4 game losing streak heading into Sunday. It's time for Judy Garland to start pitching like Jon Garland again. Minnesota is not a good hitting team. Let's get this done tonight, and get that Magic Number down to 12!!!!!
  22. The good news is that the White Sox still have a 4.5 game lead, and despite the easy schedule Cleveland has remaining, it's up the Sox to close this out from here on in.
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 05:01 PM) If I thought he was able to pitch well, I wouldn't complain, but the Sun Times this morning made it sound like the health problem Marte was having has not gone away. I'm worried he'll get into the ballgame and we'll have 3 more HBP before we know what happened. C'mon - the reason he wasn't in KC with the team was because he showed up late, and was in Ozzie's doghouse, and that's deservingly so. If he was showing up on time, and being a good teammate, you wouldn't be hearing so much about his neck injury, you'd be hearing how he's pitching through the problems. This is it. We have to make a statement here, and regain control of this division before the Indians get any closer. If Marte can help us win, let him pitch (just not in the 9th, as he melts down similar to L.Hawkins did for the Cubbies) - we need victories.
  24. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) "There isn't a fan on this board that wouldn't have gladly taken this position leaving Spring Training." Again, not the whole story. At face value, YES, anyone would accept that. However, without adding the part about the 15 game lead in August, the s***ty August BA and W-L, the mediocre second half by almost all the starters, the 5-game drop in the lead over the Indians in just over one week, etc etc, you're not telling the whole story. Am I glad the Sox are still up 4 and 1/2 games? Yup. Is 4 and 1/2 ahead better than 4 and 1/2 behind? Of course. Does that 4 and 1/2 game lead feel insurmountable AT ALL? no. Let me state once again for the record that I DO NOT want the Sox to fail, I am pulling for them 100% ( because it's impossible for me to pull for them MORE than 100% ), and I would LOVE to see them get rid of the f***ing Injuns. But to say that I'm nervous about the lead right now is an understatement.
