QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) It looks like the guys that helped get us the 75 wins are the guys who are going to have to get it done in the post-season. Or is it possible to focus on a lesser player (with less to give up) who may have cleared waivers ? Just asking, but has anyone heard of a few less popular/big $$ players who have gotten through waivers? I'm sure Kenny Williams is exploring every possible player who's cleared waivers. Anyone we're overlooking while focusing on Griffey ?

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 10:14 AM) First off you don't just put him on the list. You call the GM's first & get agreement from those teams that can claim before the Reds. A refusal to agree would not only spoil trade relations but it could also come back & haunt that non-contender. Say a few years down the road that team reverses roles with either the CWS or the Reds. The Reds or CWS would then be inclined to return the favor. Secondly if a non-contender did decide to play the spoiler (even after giving their word not to) you can always pull the player back. The only risk is that you get a one shot deal involving that player. I think we're on our last breath with this Griffey trade.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 11:42 PM) We just had a series where he batted Timo as our DH the entire time. I think that speaks volumes about what he intends to do. When Timo Perez is your first option for DH for the Yank series. Yeah, but wasn't Carl Everett out with the groin injury ? The Sox don't have a very good hitting bench so it isn't going to be pretty if we're using our bench players as regulars.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 11:31 PM) I think he will go one of two ways. He will either bring Harris up and plunk him into Pods spot and think for whatever reason that Wee Willie can hit and get on base and steal. Or he will go with his girlfriend Timo and play him. I dont think there will be any Platoons. Ozzie goes with guys, especially after Timo had two hits in todays rainout. This justifies him starting for the entire DL session by Ozzies thought process. I think he'll go platoon because neither is going to hit .400 (or even .250 probably), meaning he'll try to get them favorable matchups.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) If by platoon you mean bat Timo as much as possible and give Harris a shot here and there to relieve Ozzies girlfriend Timo. That is the only platoon that Ozzie has in mind. By platoon, I mean Harris/Perez/Ozuna will all get some time out there - unless one of them gets real hot at the plate, I think Guillen will just go by matchups.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 11:01 PM) i do sort of get tired of Bruce doing that. Sometimes he will just kiss the players ass that it is painful to listen to. For example he kept on kissing Garland's ass when he was strugglig and it sort of pissed me off. Good point on Garland! I also get sick of Levine (and other ESPN Reporters like Stark and Olney) defending the stats of known steriod users....
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 10:49 PM) That's going to make me sleep better at night :headshake Didn't say that this option is any better, but I believe Guillen will make LF a platoon position until Pods is healthy.

QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 10:51 PM) I do agree that ofman and the score are bad but there better then bruce IMO I think both Offman/Levine know and understand the game, but I think Levine has too much man-love for the players, and both tend to 2nd-hand report rumors like they came up with it.
-
QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) I was making fun of bruce you said that offman and the score did it too but i didnt say anything about ofman and the score to make you say that. I understand you didn't say anything about the Score - I just pointed out that both stations are sometimes full of themselves. I didn't want to single out Bruce Levine without at least mentioning the Score (Ofman) as well....Nothing against what you said, just myself offering that up.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) Chicagosports.com is reporting that Willie Harris might be called up to play LF and leadoff. Good grief, that would be a disaster of a move. Harris is a terrible outfielder, and he's done nothing this season to deserve to be on the MLB roster. Please do something else KW! Harris may get called up, and will get some starts in LF, but I don't think he'd become a regular out there while Pods' is injured - I think Guillen would basically platoon and work in Timo Perez, Harris, and Pablo out there.

Interesting names that have cleared waivers..

QUOTE(Adam G @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) I'd love to have a true #1 pitcher with playoff experience and a ring like Pedro. They dont come cheap. He nearly threw the first no hitter in Mets' history today. I think the Mets would pull back their waiver claims on both both Beltran and Martinez.... -
QUOTE(scotty22hotty @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) Free vs 3 prospects + maybe $7mil off his contract? By free, you mean taking on something like $50 million over 4 years that you'd be taking on. If you work out a deal with Cincinnati, you could get them to take around $10-$15 million off of that.
-
QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) I also didnt say that I loved offman and the score Where did I say that ?
-
QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 10:38 PM) Yah but they said it YESTERDAY bruce says it TODAY My point being that I'm not sure it was breaking news either time - both stations just like to give the impression that their reporters are getting the story first, even if, like in this case, there really isn't a story.
-
QUOTE(ScottPodRulez22 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 10:34 PM) Because i could have told you yesterday griffey passed waivers and yet bruce says it today and makes it breaking news and takes all the credit. Both the Score and ESPN 1000 do that - I heard the Score yesterday on their updates mentioning that 'Ofman is reporting that Griffey cleared waivers and a trade with the White Sox could be possible' as some sort of 'inside info'.... In reality, while they do have some contacts inside the organization, most of their information comes from local newspapers and other Internet sources.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 10:33 PM) Guys almost everyone in the media reported that Vizquel was headed to the Sox this november. Bruce was not the only one. I'm not sure why everyone hates him. I don't hate Bruce Levine - you're right about Vizquel - everyone from the SunTimes/Tribune to the Score/ESPN 1000 all had that as being a foregone conclusion. I think Bruce knows the game. I just laugh at some of his 'inside info' and his player love sometimes.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) Until you hear something that suggests the Reds want to trade him, carry on with your regular life. Let's just hope that Kenny Williams can find a way to upgrade the team further before August 31st whether it be Griffey Jr. (beware of all the rumors that keep coming up - if something happens, great!, otherwise, carry on, there's nothing to see here) or some other upgrade.
-
QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 10:25 PM) Thank you, that was the best way to describe it. No problem...Those local reporters (Levine and Ofman) are just hilarious to me - they know the game because they watch it for a living (but probably not any better than a lot of people here), but when it comes to those trade rumors, they don't seem to be reporting any information besides already public knowledge.

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 10:12 PM) Anything on Sportsnite? According to Bruce, the 'White Sox are doing everything they can to get this deal done.' He said this towards the end of his talking points.... Started off by saying that that Griffey Jr. cleared waivers, and the White Sox could make a trade with the Reds, but then said that the Reds are for sale, and may not want to trade a marketable player like Griffey Jr, but then said Griffey Jr. and Kenny Williams both would like to make a deal.... Basically, his report was nothing new - it's going to be difficult to make a trade because of the sale of the Reds, the money involved, and then agreeing on players before finally going to Griffey to get his approval. Despite not knowing if the White Sox have actually talken with the Reds about this, being unaware of the players involved in a trade, according to Bruce Levine, the 'White Sox are doing everything they can to get this deal done.' LOL

Apparently, Bruce Levine will have some 'new' info at about 10:20 PM. My guess is that he'll mention Griffey Jr. cleared waivers, and that the Sox are open to talking with the Reds, especially since Pods will be placed on IR.

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) This is my question too. Wouldn't we know if he were placed on waivers. I am positive I remember seeing "such-and-such placed so-and-so on waivers" in the transactions column of my morning paper at various times in the past. They do still do that don't they? SFF You're referring to the traditional waiver wire that runs all season as opposed to now where it's not revealed when a player is placed on waivers....I think most teams will put quite a few of their players on waivers, and will end up pulling back nearly all (especially if you're contending).... I'm just surprised that it's August 9th, and we haven't heard any names getting blocked/passing through, and that goes back to my original questions of how long will it take for a player to get through waivers, and when is a player originally put on waivers ...

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) Rafeal Palmeiro is a lying, cheating bastard there is absolutely no way in hell I ever want him anywhere near the White Sox. I hope he never plays in the big leagues again, baseball would be better off. I agree with you, but there is so much speculation around here about adding another bat...He could be available, I don't want him, but others may disagree.
-
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/3875540 Personally, I don't want to root for somebody like him, or do anything to mess with the chemistry of the team (add a media circus that would be distracting), but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Hopefully Mike North won't make the decision as he does seem to have great pull there... John Rooney does a great job. Not bringing him back would be foolish...

QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) Ok this may be the wrong place and if addressed somewhere I aplolgize but the following sources have stated over the past week that Rowand would be displaced by Griffey should he be brought in. Harrelson and DJ in response to an e-mail Bruce Levine Some nit wit from Sporting News Radio on the CLTV Round Table Sunday night ESPN dolts Many folks on this site. Should by some miracle of god we did get him he would fill the role Everett had when Thomas was here and Everett would fill the role Thomas had when Thomas was here with less at-bats then Frank. The OF'ers need a day off here or there and Timo is an embarrassment. Another injury and we are done, we will not play above .400 ball and out pitchers will be toast from the stress of having to throw a shut out everyday. In the game last night they talked of how NY was going to get him. If the cash is right they will get him. Although I did hear on the cub radio braodcast, first insightful thing ever, that the Reds were about to be sold and they did not want to risk the devaluation of the franchise by giving up Griffey. This may be who we are fighting for and why if the Yanks will eat the $$$ the will get him. I actually think Pods is an ideal DH as he can play everyday and run without tiring. This team is looking tired offensivly and there is nowhere to turn. Where is Pablo OZuna, I thought he was a fine spark but we haven't seen him in weeks again. Assuming that Rowand isn't part of a trade (I highly doubt that) -isn't it fair to assume that Ozzie would do what he's done all season - get all 3 of his OF's rest, and basically rotate them. So, Rowand may still be the primary CF, but Griffey would occasionally play there as well to give Rowand time off.
