****Carlos Lee to Rangers
The Brewers did really good. They unloaded CLee and got some very reasonable contracts. Contract Situation: Mench - signed 1 yr deal for 2.8M, can become a FA in 2008 Cordero - signed thru 06, with 07 option ($5mil or 500k buyout) Nix - Minor Leagues

Passan speculating on possible trades
Yeah, That is horrible. There is no way the Sox are going to trade that much for Lee. I would also be very surprised if the Twins got Soriano as well.

ST Poll: How will the White Sox finish the season?
I will be surprised if the Tigers and Twins keep up this pace. The Tigers have a tough stretch in August/ early September and I think the Sox will rebound to make this a tight Division race in September. Also, there is still a lot of head to head play left. Sox games left vs Det 10, vs Min 9 (19) Twins games left vs Sox 9, vs Det 10 (19) Tigers games left vs Sox 10, vs Min 10 (20)

All-Star Break Collapse: Theories?
I also think it happened before the ASB, but it was exposed more vs the caliber of teams the Sox played, BOS, NYY more recently. Regardless when it actually started, it is a good time for it to stop, and have the team put together a string of wins to get some confidence back.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) HeyRME great breakdown. Where do you get stats like that? Those I got from Yahoo Sports. Each player link has Split Stats and Situational Stats. Those were under Situational Stats. Here is the link to Vazquez: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5947/situational There is another site that breaks it down by inning, but I forgot which one shows that. MLB.com has some detailed situational stats too, you just have to click thru them: http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...&splitSet=2

Teams that could be interested in Javy or Freddy
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 12:53 PM) From MLBtrade rumors. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ Didn't see the Olney blog myself. "Buster Olney mentioned today in his blog that the White Sox are willing to discuss trades for Freddy Garcia." If anything big happens, I think this goes down. If it is on that site before it happens, it won't happen. It is the kiss of death. Garica is not going anywhere.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) All pitchers will obviously have higher ERAs with runners on base. The sample sizes decrease in each of those categories and the opportunity for the opponent to score becomes far greater. It doesn't help us isolate the problem very much. Take Contreras ERAs in those same situations and it doesn't look much better, even though he's our best pitcher this year. 2.10 5.57 8.36 17.12 27.00 I agree, but 8.04 with just runners on compared to 5.57 is a pretty big difference, and it shows the pitchers ability to get out of a jam. The other starters are not doing that much better either. The best thing for the Sox pitchers to do is not allow any baserunners. /green

New Line-Up Suggestion
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 11:31 AM) Here's my beef, whatever the lineup ends up being. PICK A TEAM, AND STICK WITH IT. Is it just me, or are we being subbed to death this year? I feel like I never see the same team two games in a row. I wonder how the team is going to jell if it's never the same nine guys--er, eight. Know what I mean? I agree. The Sox need to stick with a lineup, that is normally how lineups become more effective. If you are changing the lineup every game there is no continuity between batter and baserunner.

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) Im sure there have been discussions about this a few times but is it too insane to pull Javier out after the fifth inning no matter what and maybe handing it over to BMac whenever he starts. His past few starts you can set your watch to his 6th inning melt down. We normally have 1-0 or 2-0 leads and then are down three runs. Do something to mix it up at least. Vazquez has actually not pitched that well early in the game. He pitches better from pitch 31-75. Vazquez by pitch Pitch 1-15 5.19 ERA Pitch 16-30 5.94 ERA Pitch 31-45 1.83 ERA Pitch 46-60 1.65 ERA Pitch 61-75 3.50 ERA Pitch 76-90 9.92 ERA Pitch 91-105 10.13 ERA The issue with him is when runners are on base. Bases Empty - 2.94 ERA Runners On - 8.04 ERA RISP - 12.56 ERA RISP w/2outs - 24.98 ERA Bases Loaded - 12.27 ERA I don't know how you fix that, but those numbers are horrible.

Anyone miss Jay?
I don't miss him at all, and we get enough amusing posts on this forum to satisfy my "jump off the cliff" mentality. Also, all he would do is fuel the fire between him and the Sox, and that is the last thing they need right now.

Detroit Tigers World Series Thread
44-11 is the Tigers record vs losing AL teams and in interleague play. 24-22 is the Tigers record vs AL teams with winning records. For how bad the Sox have played recently, they are still 30-24 vs AL teams with winning records. If the Tigers don't improve vs winning teams they will be in trouble pretty quick. They have 32 out of 35 games vs winning teams from August 7th to September 13th.

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread
QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 04:30 AM) A Twins watch? For what? According to most of this board at the beginning of the year the Twins should be the last team on our mind. No offense and only a few good pitchers! Why worry about the Twins, are you stupid? No one could have predicted the Twins to be this good, and they have been doing it with a complete bench outfield (no Hunter, Stewart, or Ford), now that is amazing. Liriano came out of nowhere and was not even starting at the beginning of the year. Who knows what their record would be if he started from the opening series. Everyone knows the good things about the Twins, but they still have a losing record on the road, a losing Divisional record, a losing record vs LHPs, a losing record vs winning teams in the AL. Also, Santana and Liriano will not win every game they pitch. They are hot, but it will be very difficult for them to keep this current pace.

Sox SP Turnaround?
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 04:35 AM) Oh, yeah, I'm by no means giving up on the season. That would be foolish. The talent is there. Guys just need to start earing their money. Sorry, the original quote didn't go thru. I was replying to Harry's comment about a collapse. I agree with you, the players are not playing up to their potential. The starting pitching really needs to come around.

Sox SP Turnaround?
The Sox are 2-10 in their 12 games after the All-Star break, 12 games is not a collapse. There are still 62 games left. 62 games. So if you look back 62 games to see how much can change, here are the records from May 16th: Sox 25-13 Tigers 25-13 Twins 17-22 The Twins had stretches of 3-12, 2-7, and 2-6, and look where they are now. I am not counting anyone out until after Labor Day. I have a feeling that things will be very tight in the Division come Labor Day.

Ozzie? Has he lost this team?
If Ozzie didn't respect his players Anderson would have been in the minors after April, the pitchers would be getting the hook after the first run scored, and several of the other players would have been benched. Ozzie sticks with his players and at least gives them confidence enough to know that even if they are struggling he is going to send them back out. That is something that the players value. The players know Ozzie wears his emotions on his sleeve and that is who he is. If you look at their record, there is no correlation between how they have played and the incidents that occurred. The Sox won 9 straight after the Tracey incident. Most of the players are making millions playing a kids game, and they need to step up and earn their pay. I know it is easy to just point the finger at the manager, but they don't impact the game nearly as much as people think. Normally the manager is just the scapegoat for sub-par performances by players.

Harold Reynolds
- Harold Reynolds
I am surprised at the lack of news about this. A Google News search of "Harold Reynolds" only returns one link (Columbus Dispatch) which references the NY Times link. Weird. The ESPN site still references him as an analyst on BBTN.- Longer rotation
Can't send Gload down, he is out of options. The Sox could plug BMac in when there is a stretch of more than 5 games, that way it would just seem like there was a day off between series. However, that option would leave the bullpen thin if he was not able to pitch again for a number of days.- On a more serious note...
It is still only July with two full months of baseball left. If you are going to have a slump it is better to have it now than in September. The Twins cannot keep an .800 winning percentage for the rest of the season, and the Tigers will come back to earth in August. This is going to make for an exciting September. I figure all three teams in the Central will be within three games of each other around that time based off their projected schedules.- Manager of the Year
Its easily Ozzie, no one has handled their staff, team, and media better than Ozzie. Has anyone done more with less?- White Sox Firefox Extension
QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:05 PM) Is it just me, or do the links for 'schedule', 'statistics' and 'roster' not work? They just take me to the White Sox homepage instead. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 12:33 AM) Same thing for me. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 24, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) The good news is that if he was a rookie in 2003, he's tied up by arbitration for at least a couple more years. He only has Service Time of 2.104, so he has some arb years left (about the same as Cotts). - Harold Reynolds
