Prime reasons why the 2006 White Sox failed to repeat
VaFan, Here are a few more. Good points, I agree 100%. Other Coaches - Besides Ozzie, what about Cooper with the pitchers, or Walker with the lack of bunting skills? What about Cora at 3B? How many outs did he cause with his Windmill arm? Could the lack of production in the SB department have to do with Raines not being out there at 1B? Unwillingness to at least try McCarthy in the rotation in July. Who knows if he would have given up 10 runs a start or been really solid. He did pitch 5+ innings of 1 run ball vs MIN in August, but I guess that was not enough to convince the Sox to at least give him a start. Too many lineup changes - no continuity. We called for Dye in the 3-hole all year and he was put there only after an inury to Thome and by then it was too late. Also, even when the Sox were rolling in April-June, they seemed to have a new lineup everyday. Eventually this has to break up your rythym. No major deadline deal - There were several opportunities, but no major moves were made. It seemed like every other contender did something to improve their team. I think everyone felt like something needed to happen here and it didn't. The Sox were on a slippery slope and that July slide has never really went away.

Buehrle
The obvious decision would be for the Sox to pick up Buehrle's option or do a 3 year deal similar to Garland's this year. It will be hard for Buehrle to ask for much more than what Garland got when Garland has out-pitched him the last two years. I wouldn't be surprised if Garcia is traded even after these two starts. The starts have been a pleasant surprise, but we sure could have used these type of starts in July and August. Even though those are the obvious decisions. I somehow think KW will move both of them this off season with Pods and Uribe. They will stick McCarthy in the rotation and use the savings of Garcia, Buehrle, Pods, and Uribe to sign a new Starter, SS, and LFer. This whole situation brings up another question, who starts 2007 Opening Day?

To quote Lloyd
To have a chance, the Sox would have to beat Detroit again, sweep Seattle, take 2 of 3 from Cleveland, and take 2 fo 3 from Minnesota. That would be 9-2 in their next 11. At the same time Detroit would have to lose to the Sox, lose 3 of 4 of their away games, lose 2 of 3 vs Toronto, and lose 2 of 3 vs KC. That would be 3-8 in their next 11. They could win one more if Minnesota overtook them for the Division and go 4-7. For Minnesota, for the Sox to catch them, they would need to lose the next 2 vs Boston, drop 1 of 3 at Baltimore, split with KC 2 and 2, then drop 2 of 3 to the Sox. That would make them 5-7 in their last 12, and put them in a tie. That would be going 4-5 before the Sox series. The Sox would have to go 7-1 before that series. Everything is still possible, but unless the Sox catch fire and rattle off about 5-6 in a row and the Twins or Tigers drop 4-5 in a row, the Sox are toast.

White Sox are Done
QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 07:23 PM) If we miss the playoffs, do you think Ozzie gets the ax for everything that's happened this year?? No, they will let him finish his contract. However, he may hang it up himself.

And that's a white sox loser
QUOTE(scotty22hotty @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 07:22 PM) I predict the sox will go on a 8-0 run .. then they will lose the game 9-8 when the starting pitcher stays in one inning too long and the relievers blow the game.

White Sox are Done
The season was over when they lost 2 of 3 vs KC and BOS a couple of weeks ago. That was the prime chance to make ground on MIN and DET and instead the Sox lost ground. They still have a mathematical shot, but physically and mentally, they are done.

And that's a white sox loser
This has been a brutal season to watch. Expectations were so high and every time you thought they turned the corner, Vazquez came out for the 6th inning.

White Sox vs. Tribe
Now we need a missed HBP!

Crede's Back
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 12:50 PM) I actually think Mack is probably a better defensive 3rd baseman than Fields and right now is much more ready to succeed at the major league level offensively. But either way I'd expect to see Josh. Joe is in the lineup today though so hopefully his back will be alright. The odd thing is that Mack has only started 2 games at 3B all year. If Joe is in the lineup, that would hopefully mean the shot worked and he could get it periodically to reduce the pain. Thats good news.

Crede's Back
I keep reading reports about Crede's back, and how he will probably need offseason surgery. He has missed 3 games and nothing has been said about how long he will be out. He just received a cortisone shot, so I assume they are checking to see if he gets some relief from the shot, but how effective can he be if his back is hurting that bad? With Charlotte's season over, could we be seeing Josh Fields at 3B in the near future?

As long as we can win today (9/10)...
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 10, 2006 -> 08:39 AM) The West coast trip looms large. As long as the Sox don't piss their pants out there, they have a shot. I still cling more to the wild card. As bad as Detroit has been, they still have 6or 7 left with KC, a team they have manhandled. I hope the Sox can get on a roll here. History suggests that you don't want to have to win 2 or 3 that final series in Minnesota. KC is due to beat the Tigers eventually. They have been playing much better ball of late. They are 7-4 in their last 11 games while playing the top of the AL: (MIN, SOX, NYY, and BOS). I am also worried about the West Coast trip, but the Sox do get a day off between series on the 14th, and since they are playing a day game today, they will get to the West Coast tonight. I would say a 3-3 West Coast trip would be a success and going 4-2 would be huge before the DET series.

AND THIS BALLGAME IS OVA!!!!
QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 9, 2006 -> 12:10 AM) I don't think he should have been pulled until they tied it. He's our closer. He was deemed fit to pitch by our trainer. All managers have a list of personnel deemed either fit to pitch or not. What is so difficult to accept my position that we had a two run lead and we brought in our closer to start the inning. Our closer failed. To understand your position better ... if Bobby was healthy do you agree he should have been allowed to either get the save or blow the save, not be removed at any point just because he appeared to not have it? I think it's safe to say ALL managers put in their closers with a 2 run lead or one run lead and it is the closer's game. So if Bobby is healthy do you agree he should be allowed to either get the save or blow it? YES OR NO? If you are addressing the Jenks is hurt situation ... can't you accept my position that if he's deemed fit to pitch by the trainer then he is our closer and again, closers ALWAYS are allowed to finish the job. You don't yank a closer until the game is tied? Again ... what manager does that? I can understand you thinking Oz should pull him because he's hurt and ineffective. I disagree because he obviously was cleared to pitch by our doctors. That means he's Jenks and Jenks closes games for the White Sox. I think the issues comes down to matchups. Sizemore is batting almost 130 pts higher against RHP. So once Jenks let up back to back doubles that were crushed, Ozzie could have brought in Thornton to face Sizemore, and hopefully salvage the game right there with a 1 run lead. Instead, Jenks gives up two more doubles, and the lead before they make the switch to Thornton. The big Lefty comes in and gets a DP and a K to end the threat. I am just glad this is all a moot point, thanks AJ!

Stat Heads
QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 09:32 AM) Just wondering if anyone compiles a stat of frequency of runs scored by a team. Remembering the all or nothing offense of a couple years ago and wishing to compare it to this home run happy team. I'm wondering if this team is scoring 0-4 runs more or less frequently than the past couple seasons. Do you mean something like this (comparison of runs from 2005 to 2006): http://chisoxdaily.blogspot.com/2006/09/20...stribution.html

GAME THREAD: White @ Red
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Sep 5, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) Javy must be pretty pissed at the offense right now. To be fair, he did this to them all year by blowing any lead they gave him. I guess the offense didn't want him to blow another lead, so they didn't give him one.
