MVP
The voters are completely out of whack this year. Howard over Pujols and now Morneau over Jeter. Winshares Jeter - 33 Morneau - 27 VORP Jeter - 80.5 Morneau - 52.0 Morneau should have been behind Mauer and Santana. Surprised to see Hafner and Thomas and no Thome.

Sox talking with Baltimore?
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) I actually wouldn't be surprised if KW just kept him and give him one more shot at it. With that said he would probably look to upgrade at CF somehow to balance out the lineup more. Patterson is intriuging, i wonder what Baltamore would want for him? Would you guys trade Owens for him? Now that the Cubs have all the talk around town, do you think KW will try to steal some of that energy and aqcuire a big name?? Things have been too quite lately.... I wouldn't be surprised if Pods was back in 2007 as well. Unless there is a huge difference in an upgrade like Crawford, I don't think the Sox are going to pay for a minimal upgrade. With the inflated FA market, the Pods in 2007 scenario is becoming more likely. If Pods does come back, he needs to come back in awesome shape for ST.

Did anyone get this book yet? I did a search and came up with nothing on the site. Amazon link: Total White Sox: The Definitive Encyclopedia of the World Champion Franchise If you have it, is it worth picking up? Thanks!

Teams with the most money to spend
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 05:07 PM) Any team that signs Sandy Alomar as a SS is going to be in trouble, IMO of course... Very slick move. Mask him as a SS.

Freddy or Javy?
QUOTE(SABR Sox @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) As far as each pitcher is concered, Javy is the better guy. Great peripherals, whereas Garcia's have completley fallen these past few years. He's a good candidate for "Josh Towers 2007." But it does depend on the return, and that package of Otsuka + Masset+ Danks rumored for Vazquez would be tough for me to turn down. Peripherals don't always translate to in-game performance as shown by Vazquez throughout most of his career. His contract would appeal to more teams and you could use the peripherals argument to your advantage. I would take Otsuka/Masset/Danks for Vazquez in a heartbeat.

Freddy to Angels?
It looks like KW is going to move quick on some of these:

Sox talking with Baltimore?
The only names I have seen linked with the Sox from the Orioles this off-season have been Bedard, Cabrera, and Patterson.
-
Tigers re-sign Sean Casey
I'm surprised Casey settled for only a one year deal.
-
Alex Gonzalez
Is it possible that this move it a setup for another larger move. If the Sox sign Gonzalez they will have a surplus at multiple positions where they would then control more of the market. They could package Gonzalez with a SP to a number of teams. If this is not a setup move, and Gonzalez is starting in place of Uribe in 2007, you have to question why the Sox would give him 3/15.

Daisuke Matsuzaka signs
QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Nov 16, 2006 -> 05:25 PM) So where does the original $51 million go? Does it go to the Japanese team or the pitcher? I haven't been keeping up on baseball lately, it's been all about the NFL. The $51 million goes to the Japanese team (Seibu Lions).

Daisuke Matsuzaka signs
Rumors are saying that he just signed for $45 over 3 yrs. This is coming from: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2006/11/matsuzaka_signe.html which says it was reported on EPSN radio in Boston. So $96 million for 3 years? Wow what a great deal at $32 million a year if it is true.

Cotts to the Cubs
For 2006, Inherited Runners / Inherited Runners Scored: IR / IS PCT Cotts 67 / 20 30% Thornton 48 / 13 27% McCarthy 36 / 14 39% Jenks 30 / 5 17% Riske 29 / 14 48% MacDougal 20 / 5 25% Logan 17 / 10 59% Politte 11 / 3 27% Montero 9 / 4 44% Hermanson 7 / 3 43% Haeger 6 / 1 17% Tracey 3 / 2 67% Nelson 3 / 1 33% Surprisingly Cotts had the most inherited runners in 2006 (by a pretty big margin), and the two main lefties got the most work with runners on. Riske was pretty bad with inherited runners along with Logan and McCarthy.

Daisuke Matsuzaka signs
To offset some of the costs of the Matsuzaka deal, the Boston Red Sox have made some adjustments for advertising purposes. Things to look for in 2007: 1. Fenway Park will now be referred to as Yenway Park 2. The Green Monster will now be called Godzilla 3. The Pesky Pole will be called the Fuji Pole 4. Hot Dogs will be replaced with Wasabi 5. All players will drive Toyota's 6. The 7th Inning Stretch will be replaced with a Sumo match on the mound

Mets looking to deal Milledge/Heilman?
QUOTE(bulokis @ Nov 15, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) I would love to see Vazquez traded to the mets for young pitching prospects. Last year, Vaz just did not show enough that he wanted to win. If the Sox do trade him, then whoever they get in the trade will actually have been traded for El Duque, Vizcaino, and Young.

Daisuke Matsuzaka signs
It's not like Boras is going to come out and say he is ripping a team off. He is going to spin everything into a positive to get as much money out of the deal as he can. This part of the quote was hilarious: "The first thing it reflects is the value of one of the world's best pitchers" One of the world's best pitchers?

Daisuke Matsuzaka signs
It would seem that Boston would be better off not striking a deal. They wouldn't have to pay out a dime and the Yankees would not get him either. If they do strike a deal, they will be out a ton of cash, and probably out of the running for other top tier players.

Mets looking to deal Milledge/Heilman?
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 02:22 PM) I wonder what we could get for Jon Garland in a trade. He'd be my first choice to ship out for young pitching + some youth in position players as I think he's overachieved heavily, but he has fair numbers and good win numbers, so I figure someone'd be willing to overpay for him. Contreras, too, as well as Buehrle. The weird thing is Garland's name has probably came up the least in trade talks behind Count, Buehrle, and Vaz/Garcia. That sort of makes me wonder about how KW works (under the radar). However, based off the contract situations, it would seem like Garland and Count would be the two most likely to return for 2007.

When will the Yankees come calling?
QUOTE(daa84 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) Williams is in a fantastic position....early rumors are that 1/2 of the teams are seriously interested in Gil meche, and that vincente padilla is asking for 4 years 40 million....this means alot of teams are going to be looking for a starter, but not mediocre guys at a huge price, and if williams waits for guys like suppan meche and padilla to clear from teh market, alot of teams are going to be desperate for pitching. The power is in KWs corner, and i hope he waits to drive the price up and lands a huge score There is one issue with waiting, it may drive the price up, but the specific players or deals KW is looking for may already be gone. I am sure he is not going to take the first offer, but I don't think he will wait it out too long either. Just like last year, most of his work will be done before the Winter Meetings in early December. That should make for an exciting couple of weeks of speculation and rumors.

White Sox Daily Stats
QUOTE(TLAK @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 10:06 AM) The table on the right tracks O for's. An O for is a game started where the player had no run, hit, rbi, bb, hbp, sh or sf. An O for indicates he did nothing discernable to help the team at the plate that day. Because the team declined in the second half I split it between pre and post All Star game break. What sticks out to me is BA, Crede and Ozuna in the second half. Dispute putting up respectable averages they were just taking up space almost 1/3 of the games. Scotty Pods had a rough year but did something positive almost every day. The table on the left tracks a pitchers outings on a day by day basis. If he achieved and ERA of 3.00 or less on that day I count it as a quality start, 3 to 6 is Meh, greater than 6 is a bad start. No big surprises here. Freddy would have looked very bad without his late surge, he picked up 4 quality starts in September. Buerhle had an career bad season and was still better than Vazquez. TLAK, good stuff as always. It would be interesting to see what these numbers would look like if you took negative offensive plays into consideration, like GIDP or CS.
