  1. From KW Press Conference: It is hard to even believe anything KW says anymore.
  2. This is crazy, at the end of the 2006 season the Sox Starters were their strength and leverage in offseason negotiations, and now the Sox need a legitimate 5th starter. Here comes Pineiro? I really hope this is only the first step in a major acquisition. Otherwise, on its own this is a horrible move. Sign Preston Wilson. Trade Pods.
  3. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 03:48 PM) I say 12th by April 1-a starter is sure to go after Zito signs They are probably already there with the Garcia deal, that freed up a ton.
  4. This list shows how thin the system has become. I thought the grades were slightly on the low side. You can read the rest here: http://www.minorleagueball.com/
  5. Here is a list of the final 2006 40-man roster payrolls and luxury taxes. Interesting to see the Sox drop to 9th in payroll, and only $1.6 mil from 11th. Final 2006 40-man Roster Payrolls 1 New York Yankees $207.5 (Luxury tax - $26) 2 Boston Red Sox $137.5 (Luxury tax - $0.5) 3 New York Mets $116.6 4 Houston Astros $107.7 5 Los Angeles Dodgers $107.3 6 Los Angeles Angels $104.0 7 Chicago Cubs $99.0 8 San Francisco Giants $98.9 9 Chicago White Sox $96.9 10 St. Louis Cardinals $96.1 11 Seattle Mariners $95.3 12 Philadelphia Phillies $93.3 13 Atlanta Braves $92.2 14 Detroit Tigers $89.8 15 Texas Rangers $82.7 16 Baltimore Orioles $76.1 17 San Diego Padres $73.8 18 Toronto Blue Jays $72.4 19 Oakland A's $70.9 20 Washington Nationals $67.4 21 Minnesota Twins $64.8 22 Cincinnati Reds $63.7 23 Arizona Diamondbacks $61.5 24 Milwaukee Brewers $58.1 25 Colorado Rockies $53.2 26 Cleveland Indians $52.4 27 Kansas City Royals $51.5 28 Pittsburgh Pirates $43.4 29 Tampa Bay Devil Rays $36.4 30 Florida Marlins $21.1 * All figures in Millions (US) http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/base.../luxury.tax.ap/
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) I'm curious how they could possibly have Houston and its $92 million total team salary and have it above the Red Sox and their $120 million total team salary. Even taking into account the time Clemens missed doesn't make up that big of a difference. It has to do with the amount of players the average salary is counted against. The Red Sox must of had more players count against their payroll, lowering the average salary per player. Still kind of an odd way to list the data without the other information. Also, I know Houston's payroll number of $92mil is as of opening day. If you add Clemens salary, then divide by the number of players on their roster for the entire year, their average salary would be higher than the Sawks (as long as they had more players on the roster).
  7. I'm surpised they didn't get him for more than just DUI.
  8. With Backup catcher off the "Want - Need" list, here are a few FAs still remaining: Leftfielder/Centerfielder: Shannon Stewart - LF, $6.5Mil 2006 Salary (Lifetime .364 OBP) Steve Finley - CF, $7Mil 2006 Salary (Lifetime .333 OBP) Todd Hollandsworth - LF, $900k 2006 Salary (Lifetime .328 OBP) Preston Wilson - LF, $4Mil 2006 Salary (Lifetime .330 OBP) Darin Erstad - CF, $8.75Mil 2006 Salary (Lifetime .341 OBP) LHP Reliever: Eddie Guardado - LHP, $6.25Mil 2006 Salary Arthur Rhodes - LHP, $3.7Mil 2006 Salary Scott Schoeneweis - LHP, $2.75 206 Salary Other Relievers: Dan Kolb - RHP, $2Mil 2006 Salary Ryan Franklin - RHP, $2.6Mil 2006 Salary
  9. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Dec 22, 2006 -> 11:02 AM) What about Preston Wilson? I believe he hit Lefties fairly well and has played all OF positions IIRC. He would probably command too much money though. Wilson is pretty good vs LHP (.292 BA, .362 OBP). I wouldnt mind having him or Stewart in LF or as the primary Outfield sub.
  10. I had some issues with scratched DVDs. It seemed like every 3-4 movies were scratched, so I cancelled it.
  11. So they are going to televise these games during March Madness, the NBA playoffs, and the NHL playoffs. Great move.
  12. I would say a football town first, then baseball, then basketball. When Jordan was around you could say it was his town.
  13. QUOTE(VAfan @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 09:42 PM) Now we badly need another right handed hitter for the bench. If we got Craig Wilson, I'd play him in LF most of the time. But he should also spell Thome for at least 20 starts against lefties. Thome was an automatic out against lefties in the second half last year. If you don't like Wilson, then come up with a better alternative. If KW doesn't address this HUGE HOLE, I'll be very disappointed. I think Wilson definitely is an option. Maybe even Shannon Stewart who is also decent vs LHP. I don't think backup 1B/DH is a problem. The infield is pretty set with Cintron, Ozuna, and Mackowiak. The outfield is where the Sox need some help. It is also possible that they will just plug Sweeney in there and he will share ABs with Pods and Anderson, and give Dye a day off every now and then. Mackowiak will also fill the corner OF positions when needed. I think you will see guys like Uribe, Anderson, and Iguchi have a better year at the plate in 2007, and it will probably be against LHP.

  15. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 01:30 AM) I downloaded it and it works fine. In the bottom right corner of each page it says "created using BCL easyPDF printer driver." A little tacky, but I only need it for some documents that I submit quarterly to the bank that lent me money for an apartment complex. Thanks much everyone, MB If you don't like the watermark, you can use some freeware like CutePDF: http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp
  16. Here are some reasons why the Sox will win more than 86 games: - The Sox bullpen is improved from 2006, which should add to the win total by a couple of games - Hall as the backup catcher should be a huge improvement over Alomar/Widger - Mackowiak not in Center should save a few games - Buehrle will return to at least career norms (contract year) - B-Mac should be able to match Garcia's output in 2006 - Thome will be 18+ months removed from surgery - Pods can't get much worse, so either he comes back improved in 2007 or someone else does in his place (Sweeney)

What about Vasquez, you forgot about that misile, fo shizzle.
  18. Punchmelo, JR Smith, and now AI on the same team. They all want to score, and none of them like to pass. Should be fun to watch.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 05:34 PM) Real good move by Detroit. Good move by Detroit, but odd move by Bonderman, especially in this market.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 06:26 AM) I disagree on that. Right now the Sox are in a position where they don't have to move a starter. But if they get an offer too good to refuse, then I think they'll take it. That type of offer would be a Pelfrey / Milledge for Vazquez or Danks and Hurley for Garland type of deal etc. The Sox would then have an open competition for the 5th starter's position b/w the acquired SP spect who's closest to the majors, Gavin Floyd and Lance Broadway. As for Taveras I don't see how he's an upgrade on Pods. OBP's of .325 and .333 over the past 2 seasons compared to Pods's .351 and .330. I just don't think KW is going to weaken the 2007 Starting rotation with another Starter trade. Now if an offer comes up that knocks KW's socks off, then yeah he would probably pull the trigger, but it would have to be a sweet, can't turn it down type of deal. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 08:07 AM) Cheat brought up a good point on SSS. If the Jays are in fact shopping Rios, I would have to think they are shopping Reed Johnson as well. Johnson had a bit of a career year this year, but over the last 3 years, he has hit .301 VS. LHP in over 500 AB's. We get Johnson for a prospect or two, I have no problem with Pods getting in some AB's vs. RH, but Reed getting a bunch of the time in LF. Makes sense to me. A Reed Johnson deal for some mid-level prospects would make sense. That would make LF really interesting, with Pods, Johnson, and Sweeney competing in ST.
  21. *18DEC06 Update* - Updated for Firefox 2.0.1 - Added Toby Hall, dropped Sandy Alomar - Changed Harball Times to Hardball Times http://www.pcgamingtech.net/downloads/whitesox.xpi - Next Update will include other roster changes, and I will add some top prospect links (Sweeney, Fields, Haeger, etc). Also trying to figure out how to get XML to recognize & signs in URLs so I can add Rotoworld links. Damn, next update will have McCarthy removed and the others added.
  22. I can't see the Sox having B-Mac and another new starter for 2007, which would mean the Sox moved Buehrle, Garland, or Vazquez. The current rotation seems to be locked in for 2007. If the Sox make any more moves, I assume it will be another reliever or another OF that can play LF and CF. Rios would be a great addition, but it seems like the Jays want to much for him. I would rather go for Taveras and send some mid-level prospects to the Rockies.
  23. Some great quotes. Love to see guys excited to play for the Sox.
  24. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/whitesox.asp Sounds like a roster move, maybe Stewart.
  25. New version is posted here: http://www.pcgamingtech.net/downloads/whitesox.xpi After saving it, just use File > Open File from Firefox to install it after you download it. It will install on the top File bar next to the Help. Please let me know if you have any problems. *Latest Changes/12-16-06* - Updated for Firefox 2.0 - Removed Dead Links - Updated Roster - Added news links (Cot's Contracts, Coolstandings) Ok, I have to add Hall and drop Alomar.
