QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 10:48 PM) Sorry, there's something very amusing to me about a guy wanting to be a writer and mixing up "your" and "you're." I actually thought the "writter" and the "now" were better, but spelling and grammar are overrated - especially on message boards. QUOTE(CySox @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) If you need a part time writter for futuresox, I am you're guy. I am very active and follow the Charolette Knights. I don't really follow the other minor league clubs though. QUOTE(CySox @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) Also, you might now as |DaBulls| from the bulls board.

The Sox need to take advantage of this series. Minnesota is not that good on the road (19-30) and their pitchers have struggled on the road (all of Santana's losses have been on the road): Radke 1-5, 6.52 ERA, 1.99 WHIP, .396 BAA Santana 4-5, 3.51 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, .224 BAA Silva 1-5, 9.45 ERA, 2.10 WHIP, .394 BAA This is a great opportunity to gain back some games.

Widger's main job was to spell AJ for tough LHPs and he did not do that. His bat in the lineup was an automatic out. Alomar is a huge upgrade in that department: Alomar vs LHP (Lifetime - .285, 2006 - .500, 2005 - .385) Widger vs LHP (2006 - .149, 2005 - .237) KW is slowly getting these pieces in place. Riske and Alomar in, Politte and Widger out.

Thornton looked great there too.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 23, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) I haven't really been watching. I've been going back and forth to the kitchen for lunch. Ozzie yelled at Garland? Was it bad? Televised or on the radio? Anyone have a clue what Guillen was saying? On FSN they showed a 15 second clip, it looked pretty bad as Garland was walking away as Ozzie was yelling at him.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 05:03 PM) Another newspaper link to add: http://www.dailysouthtown.com/index/dspro.html QUOTE(Random @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 07:53 PM) chisoxcentral.com doesn't exist anymore. Thanks, I will make the corrections in the next update. Did chisoxcentral.com just shut down, I went to all the links within the last 2 weeks and they all were there.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) Minor suggestion: How about a link to each players mlb4u.com page that shows their contract info. That would come in real handy. Thanks for your work on this BTW EDIT - NVM didn't see you had MLB4U on there under references. Thanks for the feedback, I am actually adding more individual player links and should have an update sometime next week.

For those that use Firefox, I have made an extension for White Sox links. It is nothing spectacular, but it makes browsing White Sox links much easier. All the links go directly to the White Sox section or team page on that site. If you want to check it out, you can download it here: http://www.pcgamingtech.net/downloads/whitesox.xpi Just use File > Open File from Firefox to install it after you download it. It will install on the top File bar next to the Help. Here is what it contains: * Direct links to major sports sites (8 sites) * Direct links to reference sites (13 sites) * Direct links to major news sites (9 sites) * Direct links to fan sites (4 sites) * Direct links to blogs (9 sites) * Direct links to player pages (normally 7-9 per player) Screenshots: For those that do try it, any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks. EDIT (31 MAY 2009): Updated with current roster, added new links, removed dead links.

QUOTE(Goldmember @ Jul 22, 2006 -> 10:11 AM) after about a day your eyes adjust. i've been using this skin for a few days and have no problem after that first day... For me if I go into a thread where there are all the black bars across the screen, when I look away at anything light, I continue to see the dark bars.

I don't think we will know whether he turned the corner until the next start, but those last couple of innings looked promising. I just can't believe that Buehrle leads the team in losses with 8. That is as many as Vazquez (5) and Garland (3) combined and is the same amount he had all of last year.

The new skin and custom buttons look great but the contrast from black to white kills my eyes. I will have to stick with the HeadsCustom.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) Wow! Nice work. I guess it's not that "rare" after all. Somebody was casually mentioning that and I accepted it as fact, since the only team I can remember doing it was the Yankees. Well I guess it's not that impossible after all! Cheers. The good thing about the Sox is they are the only ones that have any chance at repeating this year. All the other teams have zero chance.
-
In recent history, teams have made it to back-to-back WS pretty regularly. - The Yankees made it to 4 straight World Series (98-01), and won 3 straight. - The Braves made it back to back twice (91-92) and (95-96) winning once. - The Blue Jays won back to back in 92-93. - The A's made it to 3 straight from 88-90 winning one. The Sox have a great chance because the team that makes it out of the AL is going to more than likely win the WS. If you go back to the 70's, it featured 4 repeats in a row (OAK 72-74, CIN 75-76, and NYY 77-78). I don't know what you consider rare, but there were 21 repeats from 1903 - 2005, which is over 20% of the time or about one every 5 years. The last repeat was 6 years ago. Also, 25 teams returned to the WS and lost, so 46 out of the 206 teams that have played in the World Series, played the year prior (over 22%). Thats almost one repeat team playing every 4 years. There has not been a repeat team since 2001, 5 years ago. So the odds are actually in favor of a repeat sooner than later.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 10:38 AM) Sorry if for some reason I am optimistic but I am. I really think the Sox will only lose once on this home stand as they miss Liriano, Millwood and that lefty that schooled them. I think Buerhle and Garcia will look good and the the Detroit series well, the pitching did their job. I expect Thome to be heard from and my most hated player Pods to get rolling. I think this is the Anderson we will see for the next 7 years and Rowand will be a memory, he is hitting .212 in July by the way. I believe the bullpen is ready and Vazquez is going to get hot. 12-3 going into Toronto. Christ we have the second best record in the game and have not played to our potential. I am sorry but the Twins and Tigers offense is not good enough. Good Day. The Sox only have 12 games before they go into Toronto? So do you mean 9-3? That seems more realistic.

Pitching, pitching, pitching. Will the real Sox pitchers please show up.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough... the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go! [runs out, alone; then returns] What the fish happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer - They need to watch those for motivation.

QUOTE(GOD @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 11:25 PM) OK so I was reading a book today on the history of the White Sox and discovered a big similarity between the 2005 White Sox and 1959 White Sox, both teams went to World Series, and then what both these teams did in the following off seasons. In 1959 the White Sox were a team built on pitching, defense, and timely hitting, much like the 2005 White Sox. Between 1959 and 1960 Bill Veck felt that the team needed more power and traded away some of the lesser known position players for some more pop in the lineup, including aquiring Minnie Minoso. The following year the team raised its team batting average by 30 points (.240 to .270) however the team finished ten games out of first. This brings me to my point. The White Sox traded a key position player in Rowand for some more pop in Thome, as well as getting rid of other key parts from last years team like El Duque and Marte. Much like the 1960 team, this team appears better than the year before. However, the added power and other losses have taken away from how this team won last year, smallball. Anyway I'm just commenting on how there are many similarities between the 59-60 Sox and the 05-06 Sox, and I'm hoping history won't repeat itself. First the 1959 Sox had a .250 BA not .240, so the rise to .270 was only 20 points. The team ERA also went up 0.31 as well. In 1960 they also had more SBs, more sacrifice hits, and more sacrifice bunts. So the year that has less SBs, and less sacrifices (1959) is considered small ball? Maybe smaller ball. The Sox got Kluszewski in 1959 for the playoff run, so I guess that is like Blum in 2005? I don't see how those years relate other than the Sox went to the WS in both years (59, 05), you could take any year that the Sox did good (1983) and say the following year was like this year. Also, like the others have said, losing Marte, Rowand, and El Duque has not been the problem. The issues have been the starting pitching, Politte, and Widger.

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 21, 2006 -> 09:48 AM) I d like to see how Chris Stewart would do. Does anyone remember how he did in spring training?? He batted .333 in 12 ABs, 4 hits, 1 2B, 2 BBs, 4 Ks.
