Who even knew we still had air raid/civil defense sirens? I find it a little hard to believe that Daley would give the okay in this post 9/11 era to blast off the sirens when the Sox clinch the AL pennant. Now after a <cough> World Series <cough>, that might be another story. The Sun-Times and WBBM-TV seem to come to different conclusions about what might happen: http://cbs2chicago.com/politics/local_story_286183834.html http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-siren16.html.

Here’s an idea for you. Every time you see a white child rapist, a white killer, a white wife beater, or a white arsonist on the news on TV; every time you read about a white mass murderer, a white pet torturer or a white bank robber in the newspaper – you should think to yourself: All males are horrible, loathsome creatures. Or - all white people are horrible, loathsome creatures. Or - I am a horrible, loathsome person because of what these people did because I am just like them. “Notice a pattern here” you say? Indeed

Now why would they want to go and remake a perfect movie? Doesn’t everyone remember the original, with that great American actress, Adrienne Barbeau (who just happened to be married to the director, John Carpenter, at the time)? Of course, Adrienne shined in the TV sitcom, Maude, playing Bea Arthur’s daughter. Oh never mind. Most of you weren’t even born way back then.

But nothing in your post has anything to do with what I said in MY post which you quoted.

Thinking “surely they don’t call them ‘chips’ on that side of the pond,” I went searching for more information. Their website certainly is slow and annoying! I really wanted to download the latest TV adverts, but gave up. http://www.taytocrisps.ie/default2.asp

I disagree. I didn’t read the column you refer to, but I heard enough quotes from Ozzie and Don Cooper before, during and after the game to get the impression that they WERE a little concerned with Garland being a bit too strong after his long lay off. And then they were thrilled with the outcome. That was the gist of it. Do you think you may be letting your feelings about Mariotti cloud your judgement? I don’t read sports writers on deadline and compare their quotes word for word with an audio transcript. But I do notice that if I read several different reporters, they’ll all have slightly different renditions of the words that everyone has heard. That is totally accepted in the profession. This isn’t a presidential news conference, folks! No one bats an eye unless something controversial has been said (oh, say, like Ozzie’s homosexual/child molester comment. Everyone made sure they got that quote EXACTLY right, because they needed to). Finally, do you actually listen to Ozzie? If someone like Mariotti just printed verbatim what comes out of Ozzie’s mouth most days, people would be justified in thinking that he was taking unfair shots at his English. Hey, what ever happened to the idea of just one "I hate Jay Mariotti" thread?

Yes, Tom and Katie are in the news again. No, not for the miraculous conception. For the wacky Scientologist "silent birth" method they've apparently chosen. Just bite your tongue, girlfriend! You couldn't make this stuff up, could you? http://slate.msn.com/id/2128041/ http://www.nydailynews.com/news/gossip/sto...2p-300956c.html

Exactly. The controversy surrounding this play is to be expected. But three themes that quickly emerged leave me shaking my head - that someone can look at those replays and say with absolutely certainty that one outcome or the other occurred; that that play should have any bearing on whether baseball institutes instant replay; and that AJ was somehow a cheater for his heads up play. I think the hullabaloo will quiet down considerably after the Sox take this series 4-1 or 4-2.

I suspect the players on both teams have put this behind them, and are plenty tired of all the post mortems. But if the Sox go all the way, this will forever be part of the story that's told. http://select.nytimes.com/2005/10/14/sport...csey.html?8hpib

Juggs isn't fooling me. If he believed half the stuff he spouts off here, he and his wife would have 18 babies by now.

I recommend International Falls, MN if you wish to pursue that dream. TexSox will support you fully with moving expenses, etc.

I believe if you would try Cape Cod brand potato chips, you might change your preferences. I buy no other kind.

If you are interested in further heartwarming information about this couple’s breeding exploits, you might want to visit their website http://www.jimbob.info/index.htm Michelle home schools her herd of young ‘uns, and it’s no surprise to me that among her favorite websites is Creation Science Evangelism (October is “Defeat Darwin Month”); and Modest Clothing for Women (“swimwear that highlights the face, not the body”). I thought I might query her about all those children named after Jim Bob, with nary a one named after her. But when I clicked on the link that said “email Michelle”, up popped [email protected] :banghead

You know what I considered the saddest part of this tale? Every single one of these 16 kids is named, essentially, after their father (all their names begin with “J”). The woman spends 18 years (so far) being a brood mare, and not a single one of her offspring is named after her? Oy!

Why not? Roger Mahony was named Archbishop of LA 20 years ago, elevated to Cardinal 14 years ago, is still “running the show” as Cardinal. As we now know was common throughout the Catholic church, he allowed pedophiles to remain in the priesthood. In one famous case, the priest admitted to Mahony that he had molested children, but he was kept in the ministry for 14 more years, while he continued his abuse.
-
And that’s fine. As long as you don’t want the “Catholic position” taught as science - or the Methodist position, or the Southern Baptist, or the Taliban’s, or the FSM.
-
I’ll just note that as long as Juggs continues to try to yoke an untestable question, “is there a God?”, to a discipline which utilizes the scientific method, he continues to demonstrate his ignorance of the limits of both religion and science.

It’s that time again. Of course, coming out is a life-long process, not just a single occurrence. But it’s fun to have a day that resonates personally, unlike, say, Columbus Day or Groundhog Day. The genesis of this event was the second gay march on Washington, October 11, 1987. Further info: http://www.hrc.org/Content/NavigationMenu/...t_Day/Index.htm

But wouldn’t you concede that someone who refused to sell one of his two rifles or his camcorder to protect his family against loss from fire, would probably not be a good candidate to pay the real costs for putting out an actual fire? So now you’d have a situation where the state would confiscate his trailer AND his land if he didn’t pay the $1000 bill, when he was unable/unwilling to pay the $25 originally? I don’t know what you mean by “criminal offense” in this instance. We don’t have debtors prison anymore. Actually, this sounds like a situation where the “small gummint” people chose has totally let down the community it is supposed to be serving. Along the lines of “you get what you pay for,” and they’re getting crappy public services. Taxes - they're not just a tool of the Devil (Democrats).

Hello. Did anyone read the linked article? qwerty neglected to include this part in his quote:
-
Gracious, goodness, me oh my! I would hope they would go with greenies before blow.

I’ve got to disagree with the folks who say that the players will be unaffected by jet lag. You don’t go back and forth across time zones as frequently as these guys have in the past few days without it affecting your body to some extent. That is undisputed biologically.
