  1. QUOTE(MSHAWKS @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 10:02 AM) No I'm not saying that some kid on a message board knows more than them. (I'm 25, by the way) I am saying that Kenny Williams has been wrong before in regards to talent evaluation, which is something people like yourself conveniently ignore when you assure the rest of us that Brian Anderson will pan out, because, gosh darn it, Kenny says he will. *cough-todd-cough*
  2. QUOTE(SoxFanInDallas @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 09:52 AM) BS about the insurance. What you have to realize is that most doctors have small amount of coverage for the ridiculous amounts that they are sued for. Jury's look at doctors as having unlimited insurance coverage or millions in the bank. THAT IS A FALSEHOOD. Most doctors can't afford the high levels of insurance coverage because people are too 'sue-happy' and jurys love to pour out the cash. We have a surgeon and a GP in the family. Perhaps that's how things operate in Texas, but you are incorrect about the insurance in the state of Illinois.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFanInDallas @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 09:42 AM) You wouldn't say that if you were the spouse of a Doctor. Besides that, doctors are human. Some are going to make mistakes. If improper treatment led to the worsening of the injury, then there may be some merit. But, if it only delayed the diagnosis, this lawsuit is BS. The proper treatment would have been to have surgery immediately and put him in a boot. They didn't do that, worsening the injury. Yes, they make mistakes. And when they do the right thing to do is to own up to them - which is exactly what I stated. And the spouse has nothing to worry about. Insurance insures their lives wont change one bit.
  4. QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 09:37 AM) That, or the old and fragile slugger who has never been healthy is whining again. It's a damn shame the way Frank was treated in this town. It really bothers me... The best defense for him is now that he's away from the "quacks" he seems to be restored (not 100%, but better than was reported from the Sox - read: Kenny Williams). Found a better doctor that found the right problem, and fixed things better than those here did.
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jul 13, 2006 -> 09:34 AM) Agree. Unfortunately I can see this story being spun to make Frank look like the bad guy like always. The sun rises... the sun sets. Clockwork.
  6. Can instigating be added to the no tolerance laws?
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 10:52 PM) I enjoy watching Albert Pujols' HRs much more than anyone else in baseball. Griffey Jr always has my full attention.
  8. If they screwed up, they should be held accountable.
  9. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 10:51 PM) Its definitely slander. You throw words like "skinhead", "racist", "white supremecist" and "drunk" around like that, you should have some proof behind it. This article has absolutely no evidence behind these claims, and doesn't even conclude to anything. So basically, you have an article that had nothing to say other than Bobby Jenks might be a really bad person, with absolutely nothing to prove it. Not sure how much stock the national media puts into s*** posted on Page 2, but if this started circulating around, Jenks should definitely seek legal action. It's not slander, nor libel. He didn't call him those things. The direct quote is "He had heard all the rumors...." And the comment about him being a WS is accompanied by a DIRECT QUOTE from Bobby... and a quite witty one at that. There is no denying that there are a ton of rumors about Bobby and his lifestyle. And there's nothing preventing anyone from asking or commenting about those rumors. Hell, if there were, I could likely sue, and win hands down, 75% of the posters here for slander and libel.
  10. QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 08:57 PM) It will be back next year as the BMW Championship, not the Western Open. That's right.. At least it will be an event here. It's going to suck without golf in July here from then on out.
  11. QUOTE(chiguy79 @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) Actually that is not true. You pay in the state where the income was earned so on road games you could be charged by that state. Shaq paid something like $1mm to another state. States have wisened up to this and charge visiting teams players. You could be. But it's not happening in MLB yet. They (players) do agree to have a prorated amount taken from them for such situations, but presently this is not happening.
  12. QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 10:59 PM) I went to the Western for the final round on Sunday. Thanks to the Sox for hanging in there till I got home. As for the golf, wow. I played the red/white/blue course that they carve out of courses one and three in the morning. The put together 3 nines and we started about 5:30 AM. I shot a 43, 48, 40. Then it was off to see the Pros play. I planted my self at the 12th tee. For those unfamiliar with Cog Hill, the 12 tee and the 14th green are right next to each other. You can sit on top of the hill to the left of the 12 tee and watch both holes. They are par 3s starting on an elevated tee to well protected greens. The 12th is a kidney shaped green with a deeeeep bunker in front and the Sunday pin was set just above the front bunker at the narrowest point of the green. It is only about 20-25 feet deep there. To the right of the green is a large oak and OB. Behind the green is OB. We watched as the PGA pros put shot after shot in the bunker, over or out. The smart play seemed to be hitting the fat part of the green and playing for par. No one had attacked the pin successfully... until Tiger came to the tee. He hit a ball with in 18" and stopped it dead on the stick. It was a tap in for bird. Just nuts. On 14, he landed on the from of the green and played the break perfectly as the ball rolled to with in 10'. He knocked it down for another bird. So then he cracks a huge drive down the 15th fairway, a short par 5. He shanked his approach shot into the trees. He actually yelled fore... like anyone in the county didn't have their eyes on him. He made a 5 but that was giving one back to the field as the 15th surrendered birdies all day. He ended up falling one shy of the leader until he birdie 18 to make the final a two stroke win. Hot day but worth it. These guys are just incredible. Damn shame that the Western Open will be no more. I have been there several times. I will miss it even if it is here every other year. There will be a big gapping hole in July now. To bad. We sat in a tent on the 17th green - thank God it was not in the sun - and had a blast also. Got there at 7 and sat all the way to the end. Ran over to watch Immelman birdie 18 then raced home to see the rest of the game. The way I understand it the Western will be back next year then start the tour. Is that not correct? Also, it will be lucky to get back here every 3 years, and they are moving it to the fall. It's totally going to suck I agree. We've gone every year the past 7 years.
  13. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 03:09 PM) well then wouldnt that matter where he resides then? If he kept his residence in Chicago would he have to pay out of state taxes You pay state taxes in the state you are paid from. California maxes at 9.3%, Maryland at 4.75%, and Illinois at 3%.

  15. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) Do you know if it was true if new season ticket holders as of this year didnt have a world series option. My boss was gonna buy 4 seats and didnt because they said he might not have an option because of the high volume of sales True
  16. QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) Well even they expect to make the post season that doesnt mean World Series tickets go on sale right away. They sell the ALDS first and then so on. It is a little cocky but I do think it will work for some bulletin board material. Maybe it will get our starting pitching a little riled up. Not for season ticket holders. We buy them all at once.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 12:30 PM) Jim had that thought once, and then he went and cowered in the corner in a cold sweat for a couple of hours just for having that thought, and the fear of what would happen afterwards... Pffttt.... check out that scar above his left eye. On topic.. this is a silly rumor. They love Aaron, he's a deal, and they are looking to drop payroll.
  18. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 11:21 AM) Didnt Myers punch his wife in the face? Isn't that the normal response when your spouse wont shut up while you're trying to watch the game...
  19. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 09:38 AM) Where would ARow play if we traded back for him? Would he replace BA in center then? QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Jul 12, 2006 -> 08:57 AM) Rumors are going around that the Phillies may deal CF Aaron Rowand back to the White Sox for pitcher Javier Vazquez and UTL player Rob Mackowiak. Then next season letting LF Scott Podsednik walk and have Rowand in left and Anderson in center with Dye holding down right. I am hoping on hope that they bring back A-Row and put him and Anderson in the lineup at the same time. Anderson is begining to hit and his defense is great. Fingers Crossed

  21. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - July 11, 2006 The U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday approved a Republican-written bill to limit Internet gambling by making it illegal for banks and credit card companies to make payments to online gaming sites. Internet gambling generates some $12 billion annually worldwide, with half coming from American gamblers. It remained unclear whether the U.S. Senate would approve similar legislation in the dwindling number of work days left before the November election. http://today.reuters.com/stocks/Quo...GENT.XML&rpc=66
  22. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) Thome wasn't elected by the fans to bat in the Derby. Manny was voted in by the fans. There's quite a difference there. I do think it's fair enough for him to want more rest, but I'm with Rock: all he had to do was put on a jersey. And Boomer asked Ortiz about this last night. He said (sic) "he could have been here... but... " and then changed the subject. I don't think Ortiz approved of MR not being there.
  23. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) The brawl was the saturday afternoon game on Fox, May 20th. You're right. It wasn't the game Mark pitched and he pitched on Friday. My bad.
  24. July 1 AJ runs into Barrett...?? Ummmm.. no. That happened at our house on the 19th. You are correct that AJ did the point after on May 21, though it was after he had crossed home plate.
  25. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jul 8, 2006 -> 06:31 PM) Anyway, the McCarthy's were very nice people, kind of cool to meet them in that fashion. His mom was super nice. I've met his dad at SoxFest and he was a total class act also. Just normal folks proud of their normal kid.
