  2. Gage has landed in the Windy City....
  3. Apparently they have reached a deal.. TRENTON, N.J. - New Jersey leaders agreed on a state budget Thursday following a six-day government shutdown that shuttered casinos and threw more than 80,000 people out of work, a high-ranking Statehouse official said. "They'll be announcing the final elements later this afternoon," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the governor will announce the deal. The deal includes a sales tax increase that would raise $1.1 billion a year, a different high-ranking Statehouse official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Half of the new money would be used to lower property taxes this year, and all of it would go for that purpose next year, the official said. The deal came after a midday meeting between top legislative leaders and Gov. Jon S. Corzine, who has repeatedly urged them to compromise to close the state's $4.5 billion budget gap. He ordered state offices shut down Saturday after the lawmakers failed to pass a budget by the July 1 deadline. All non-essential state government operations closed, and he furloughed more than half the state's employees. Among the 45,000 state workers off the job were state gambling inspectors; without the gambling inspectors, Atlantic City's 12 casinos had to shut their doors Wednesday, putting 36,000 casino employees out of work. State parks and beaches also were closed Wednesday because of the lack of staff. Only about 36,000 people in vital roles such as child welfare, state police and mental hospitals remained on the job, and they were working without pay. Under the deal, the sales tax will increase from 6 percent to 7 percent. Democrats who control the state Assembly had opposed the tax increase, estimated to cost the average New Jersey family $275 per year.

    Umm.. gross.

http://articles.news.aol.com/news/_a/piece...S00010000000001 KOLKATA, India (July 5) - Hundreds of people are thronging a hospital in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata to see a patient holding a piece of his own skull that fell off. Doctors say a large, dead section of 25-year-old electrician Sambhu Roy's skull came away Sunday after severe burns starved it of blood. "When he came to us late last year, his scalp was completely burned and within months it came off exposing the skull," Ratan Lal Bandyopadhyay, the surgeon who treated Roy told Reuters Wednesday. "Later, we noticed that the part of his skull was loosening due to lack of blood supply to the affected area, which can happen in such extensive burn cases." The piece came off Sunday and hundreds of people and dozens of doctors now crowd around his bed, where he lies holding the bone. Bandyopadhyay said the skull's inner covering and the membrane which helps produce bone was miraculously unaffected, allowing fresh bone to grow. "When the skull came off, I thought he will die, but we noticed a new covering on his head forming and that might have pushed the 'dead skull' out," he said. While possible, such cases are extremely rare. Roy was injured and almost killed when he was shocked while repairing a high voltage wire in October. "Doctors say a new skull covering has replaced the old one, but I am not letting go of this one," he told Reuters. He intends to keep his prized possession for life and not hand it over to the hospital when he leaves: "My skull has made me famous," he says.

  6. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 12:19 PM) Rock, did you ever dock your portable unit in the car? I do this in the truck. I take the starmate from the truck dock, to the work dock, or the house dock. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 12:20 PM) The only time I have trouble with the FM transmitter is when Im in downtown Chicago. Everywhere else I go I dont have any issues with it at all. I get some static in the BMW, also. It's not the transmitter, it's the signal. XM does it also sometimes when I am listening to it while at the Sox games.
  7. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) I was thinkling the same thing today. I forgot my Sirius at home and I was driving to work and had to listen the Score. Commercial...commercial...commercial... I would love local programming from thr major markets. An all Chicago sports channel and even a New York/Boston sports channel...oh wait that's ESPN. Thank god for my Sirius and next week when Howard comes back from vacation. I sleep on the way to work when Jim listens to that s***. Even though I've heard it already, listening to the HS replay is better than 99.9% of the s*** on testicular radio. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) I have my radio set up with an auxilary input and it sounds awesome. That FM Transmitter s*** it for the birds. But built into the car would be cool too. What kind of car? My BMW has Sirius built in. It's so effing cool. Jim's Vette has XM. Can't wait till the toggle adapter comes out. Then we'll both have both.
  8. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 11:04 AM) I noticed that too! I like the idea, but they need to secure them more. They ripped from the "bungee" things right before the game Monday night. There's got to be 200 of those things holding them. I think it's a bad design. The weather here is to wearing.

    Films

Couldn't sleep so I watched American Psycho for the 4,831st time last night. "Do you like Huey Lewis and the News?" I LMAO every time he starts that speech...
  10. So the bird crap is a non issue..?
  11. Anyone notice that the banner above section 102 has fallen down? I liked them versus the flags at first, but now seems like not such a good idea.
  12. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 10:16 AM) pfft....I did all that Tuesday at Willow Crest, 5 pars and a bird and still shot a 95...try to have him top that!!!!!!! It ain't easy to be that inconsistent!! As far as major league pitching...never tried, but I would love to be humbled some day. Jim would slit his wrists if he hit a 95. He's a pretty regular par to 77 golfer. I keep trying to get him to go to Q-School. I think I'd make a good tour wife.
  13. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 09:46 AM) Doesn't everyone have ADD these days? These days? I just turned 30, not 80. Regardling children, I think a lot of doctor's would like for folks to believe that. In reality, I don't think so. Regardling adults, I think a lot of adults who had tough times growing up - without much parental involvement and bumps in school and no formal diagnosis, more than likely do. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 09:49 AM) VRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM.... Thats the joke flying over your head, Steff. I wasn't sure if it was, or wasn't. Now leave me alone
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 09:45 AM) To be honest, that wouldn't surprise me at all. The guy had a ton of problems growing up, and lots of problems in school imparticular. There are many occasions where something like this ends up being ADD. I know we are playing Monday Morning shrink here, but with the limited body of evidence presence, its not a bad thought. In the big picture, these guys are playing a kids game. Not out of line for them to have that mindset.
  15. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 09:43 AM) um, what? Responding to SS2k5's comment.. "I wonder if the sit lets his mind wonder, and his intensity lapse. " Something that happens to those with ADD.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 09:32 AM) Interesting theory. Especially because you can see how much the adreneline means to Bobby. I wonder if the sit lets his mind wonder, and his intensity lapse. One thing I did notice yesterday is that he didn't throw any breaking stuff to the first few batters, and the Os caught onto that. Once Bobby started mixing in the curve and slider, he became unhittable again. I wouldn't be surprised if he (as well as many other big leaguers) has a touch of ADD which causes him to lose focus.
  17. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 09:30 AM) He's golfing with apples and hitting 90mph oranges?? Weird guy... LMAO.. Jim had always said he could hit a fastball... "how hard can it be...? " Famous last words. Twice he's been pitched MLB pitching and both times he's been humbled. But he can drive a golf ball 300 yards, chip in from a bunker, and make a 40 foot putt.
  18. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 10:39 PM) Tiger would easily get 1 hit before Ozzie shot par unless Ozzie is pretty close to scratch as a golfer right now. A lot of my friends are pretty good and play a ton, and they NEVER shoot par. Thats after playing 15-20 years. Tiger would get a broken bat hit, or some sort of cheapie in 15 years. Jim has a 2 handicap and can not hit a 90mph fastball. It's apples and oranges.
  19. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 04:56 PM) No, not generally--he's not a sports writer, period. So the fact that he writes about the Sox at all when he doesn't need to is a testament to his fan status. Geez, the guy writes a book about growing up a Sox fan and that's still not enough? Tough crowd! I don't think it's that out of line for those not familiar with him to question his lean.
  20. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) I don't give a toss one way or the other what he is, but if writing about a team only or mostly when it's doing well doesn't make you a fair weather, bandwagon jumper, what does? Well.. he's not a sports writer generally. And when he does, it's usually about the Sox - and both good and bad. That's like saying someone that only post here "once in a while" or someone who can only get to the games "once in a while" is a fairweather or is a jumper. In some cases that might be so, but it's also a gross generalization.
  21. What exactly is so funny about this? Glad to see the league is able to accomidate, and even more glad to see Jose stepping up for Josie.
  22. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) i hate Roeper. He seems like such a trendy Sox fan. He's 100% a Sox fan. Just one of the ones that can write about both without bias.
  23. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) All that chlorine in your head made ya slow. You know it. I didn't move more than 20 feet from it from 8am to 6pm yesterday. I'm a lobster today.
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 09:26 AM) Which is bulls***, because out of those 6 players, guess how many Guillen ACTUALLY picked. One. Or three... QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 09:33 AM) Was it one? I thought he picked Jenks, Buehrle and Konerko. Contreras, Thome & Dye were voted in by the players. Ah.. bastard
  25. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 5, 2006 -> 09:34 AM) Thanks. That ends that specualtion. Still, it's a shame the families won't see him go to jail. Him in jail wouldn't have paid their bills... Regardless, thoughts and prayers are with his family. They weren't the crooks.
