QUOTE(AbeFroman @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) greatscott82... this is way off topic, but who is that chick in your avatar? Skank Jessica from Laguna Beach.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 03:29 PM) I think Ozzie should use this as a wake-up call. If he continues down this path, his managing career will eventually have a very ugly ending. I'll take that bet, and raise ya $50.

QUOTE(henry wiggins @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 03:16 PM) Yeah. I should have made my posting name "Holly Wiggins" but I didn't think of it. Can I change it, do you know? I had no idea.. sorry. Yea. One of the admins can change it.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) If there is one person in the world who would not fire Ozzie for what he called Marriotti, its JR. No kidding. If anything happens it will be more along the lines of a 5 year contract extention!!

QUOTE(wallyburger @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 03:01 PM) He is lying if he says that is not what it means in Venezuela or South Florida. It is an insult using homosexuality as a derogatory term meant to inflame a situation at the homosexual communities expense. Over 50 % of the South Florida population is Latin and I hear it constantly. What happens when a non Latin MLB player/ manager uses the term a la John Rocker. Ya know what, this is a useless argument and I urge this thread to be closed.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) Only because you kept mistaking "a-shirt" for "a shirt." Because I wasn't talking about "a-shirt", I was talking about a dago-t, which you have pointed out are the same thing... I understand that.. however I never disputed that fact. Daym..

QUOTE(tony72 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) I am sorry - but Ozzie is a 41 year old man - not an 8 year old. Yes - this is being blown out of proportion, Ozzie could have used a different term, it does have a different meaning in other counties, etc... However, just because a microphone is placed in your face or a reporter asks a question does not mean you can just go and speak without thinking. I work in a bank downtown that gets very busy, customers are rude, people are rude, etc. I lose my temper several times a day. But you know what? I am 34 - not 6 and have something called self control. Just because I am upset or someone annoys me, etc. doesn't mean I use four letter words, throw a tantrum or pound my fists because that is something you should have learned about in Kindergarten. Ozzie is a great manager and a great baseball man - but you know what - learn when to SHUT UP when appropriate..it is not funny, it is not cute, it is not excusable unless you are a five year old. The Sox should discipline him, the news has every right to trash him. If you can say whatever you want without and do what you want - then be prepared to suffer the consequences like an adult. I am not going to defend him just because I love the White Sox and he is their manager when he is wrong. Agree, and Scott stated this: "Obviously, from an organizational perspective, I don't think in that case that Ozzie was trying to disparage a group,'' said Scott Reifert, the Sox' vice president of communications. "That said, it certainly is a poor word choice. It's insensitive. It's not something we would condone, not something the White Sox would stand for.'' Reifert said they have been "working with'' Guillen on some of the things he says. Would you like to apologize to homosexuals or to Mariotti? "To anybody who was insulted or hurt by that comment,'' Reifert said, "as an organization, we'll certainly apologize.''

QUOTE(wallyburger @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) Fine. Then what is he saying about WNBA games and Madonna concerts? Is he stereotyping these events? It seems like he is, and to me that is being homophobic. Homophobic would be NOT going to events where there is a known homosexual following... no?

QUOTE(wallyburger @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 02:38 PM) Ozzie's rebuttal "He also said that he has gay friends, goes to WNBA games, went to the Madonna concert and plans to attend the Gay Games in Chicago." In the context of his Mariotti's rant, what does this mean? WNBA players are Lesbians ( I am sure the standard percentage of players are, just like MLB )? Madonna concerts are attended by predominately Gay fans????? I don't know how that characterizes Ozzie as anything but gaybashing, in this instance. His response only seems to further muddy the waters. Can't he ever say he Effed up? Maybe Ozzie thinks he has never palyed with or managed a gay player. Are you serious...??? Here is the exact quote: "Guillen said that in Venezuela, that word is not a reference to a person's sexuality, but to his courage. He said he was saying that Mariotti is "not man enough to meet me and talk about [things before writing].'' He also said that he has gay friends, goes to WNBA games, went to the Madonna concert and plans to attend the Gay Games in Chicago." How the hell is that gaybashing???

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) It's a "dago t" so you were referring to it. If you don't care then just don't respond. Stop being so hard-headed and settle down with calling me a dick as it's been said over and over that personal remarks are unwanted here. I did not referance "a-shirt" in any of my posts, so your apology is accepted. Stop trying to pull me into your termanology disagreement with 72 and I wont have to point out your behavior.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 02:34 PM) A-SHIRT, not "a shirt"...short for athletic shirt or athletic t-shirt...Click on the links I provided for further reference if it's still not sinking in... I don't care what "a-shirt" is as I was not referring to it in any way, shepe, or form. Stop being a dick.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) At the federal level, it's only $5.15 per hour. In Illinois it's $6.50 for individuals 18 years of age and older, unless the employer is exempt. Some examples of being exempt are having less than 4 full time employees, agricultural workers, outside salespeople, religious corps, and some student workers. It was $5.50 per hour in 2004.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 02:05 PM) That's the definition I grew up with, and that's how I spell the word, too. I called it a dago T for years before I even found out that it wasn't the actual name or that the word "dago" was derogitory. Now, on to more pressing issues. I will preface this by stating that I am about half Italian, and I will understand if it's deleted. What happens when an Italian guy's tire gets a flat? Dago wop, wop, wop. Yuk, yuk, yuk.... My personal fav is the "dago dip"... no time for a shower.. just wet those pits with a washrag and splash on the cologne!!

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 02:06 PM) From that very wikipedia page: My point being that I did not need to be corrected when calling it an "a-shirt." Re-f***ing-lax. Of course it's a shirt. They are all shirts. Did I say it wasn't a shirt? No. Good grief.
-
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) Or an a-shirt... Or what is a shirt? A dago t? A dago t is defined as having no sleeves. If a undershirt has no sleeves, then yes it is considered a dago t. If it has sleeves, it's just a plain old undershirt. Best definition I can find is here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wifebeater_%28shirt%29 And this is what comes up when I search dictionary.com.. LMAO http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/dago%20t-shirt
-
First.. it's dago, not dego ya boneheads.. A dago t is a sleeveless undershirt. I don't know what a "white beater" is, but all my years on this planet all the wops in my family referred to a tank top as a "wife beater".

QUOTE(whitesoxin @ Jun 21, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) "Payton, Jordan, Ripken, Jeter, ect... " none of these players were ever let go because of violating a moral code. My point is do some research... you'll be shocked to see what many superstars have done and hasn't been reported. Much worse than DUI's (which is a stretch, IMO, for a "morals code violation"), yet it doesn't effect their performance on the field. If Sidney was drunk last night, you might have a case.
