  1. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 04:08 PM) We may have to hold a mini soxtalk getogether in tribute to our british sig wizard's first sox game I'm in. Big shock there..
  2. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) Get this man an Italian beef sandwich before he leaves Chitown!!! A Must!
  3. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 03:25 PM) If the way he signals him in from the bullpen doesn't embarass him then what Ozzie said shouldn't embarass him, and if it does, tough s***. Jenks is being counted on heavily. It was very irresponsible of him to come to camp heavier than last year. Yes, it was. And it was ignorant of his boss to talk s*** to the media.. IMO.
  4. QUOTE(SnB @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 03:21 PM) Way to make a fun thread unfun! i need a nap. bye. Yes.. go nap. Lock the door.. I hear security is roaming.
  5. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) For one night? Sure. They have a 13 year old boy with them, and they're from England. And Connie's isn't some shack with a couple tables thrown about. It's a nice casual place. If he suggested he wanted to hit some high-priced, classy place, then obviously I'd have picked someplace else. 13 year olds are allowed at Tufano's/ I didn't say Connie's was a shack. I asked if cost was an issue... he has yet to respond. Pardon me...
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) I definitely wish Ozzie would have just kept this comment to himself. There's no reason to call out Jenks in the media like that. We all love Ozzie for his honesty in the media. However, there are some players and some issues that might be better off being handled in private. Oh well, it's not a big deal. Eh.. not his style to be low key. Just hope it doesn't backfire on him...
  7. QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 03:15 PM) And apparently you misunderstood my original post: I believe that Ozzie made those comments because Jenks failed to comply with his request, not to take a personal shot at him. Agreed that Ozzie didn't need to go to the press, but that's just "Ozzie being Ozzie." I read it, and I think I understood "he's not calling him out". Yet, he did call him out... and (imo) in the process likely embarrassed him.
  8. QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) If Ozzie told him to lose weight this offseason and he did just the opposite, then it definitely is Ozzie's job to say something about it. You are kidding me, right...? You seriously didn't understand my comment..? I'll clarify... Yea he should say something.. to HIM.
  9. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) Well they have to have pizza at least one time while they are in Chicago. But if I were to recommend a 'fast food' style place to eat with his family possibly Ed Debevic's or ESPN Zone. Maybe even the rainforest cafe :puke ? I'm thinking Tufano's for Italian or Gibson's for meat.
  10. QUOTE(WCSox @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) I do recall and that's part of my point: Ozzie's doing his job and isn't going out of his way to embarrass Jenks. It's his job to make comments to the national media about his obvious weight problem...? Yea he went out of his way. It's what he does.
  11. QUOTE(Wong & Owens @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) First thing that popped into my head was Connie's on Archer. It's defintely Chicago, it's close to the park, it's family friendly, and pretty darned good eats. Pizza joint...? Family vacation out to dinner and you want to send them to a pizza joint...
  12. QUOTE(DePloderer @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) As for the family night out, where do you fella's with families take them when eating out? What kind of food, how many, is money an issue...?
  13. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) Yep, that's LCR. It is...? Interests music movies books politics sports (Cubs Bulls Bears Illini Hoops)
  14. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) Yeah, but exercising his options or not exercising his options wouldn't really be germaine to the case to begin with. True. Just clearing up the bad information.
  15. QUOTE(samclemens @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) here's why CBS will win. not for the mentions alone, but because stern signed a contract with sirius while still under contract with CBS. Before he left, sirius promised stern 200 million shares of sirius stock if new user quotas were met before he joined sirius. so stern started plugging mercilessly, and low and behold, sirius surpassed their quotas and stern got his 200 millions shares, which he promptly and almost completely unloaded, resulting in stern pocketing over 200 mill. if that is not conspiracy-payola, i dont know what is. Stern has NOT exercised his options.
  16. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 10:23 AM) Let it go. I did. 3 hours ago.

  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 09:35 AM) I have no doubt he was messing with her, but still, why would you be repeating that stuff? The medication effects her badly.
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 09:25 AM) Maybe that's it. Some of the stuff she was saying last night didn't make any sense at all. Its normal when she does the whole praising everyone crap and getting mad at Simon, but some of the stuff that was coming out of her mouth last night was just weird. I watched last night for a change and I do agree that she was a bit loopy. Although, I did think the pizza & salad comment was ignorant and no doubt came from Simon.
  20. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 08:51 AM) I think he signed a minor league deal with the Reds. Correct. Last month.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 3, 2006 -> 07:05 AM) I think Paula was completely drunk last night. That's the only explanation that makes any real sense to me. She has Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. The medications that she takes actually make her appear 'drunk'. She has had numerous surgeries because of it. From what I have read of it, it's a quite painful condition.

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/G/GUM...TE=DEFAULT` Boy, 12, Sticks Gum on $1.5M Painting DETROIT (AP) -- A 12-year-old visitor to the Detroit Institute of Arts stuck a wad of gum to a $1.5 million painting, leaving a stain the size of a quarter, officials say. The boy was part of a school group from Holly that visited the museum on Friday, officials say. They say he took a piece of Wrigley's Extra Polar Ice gum out of his mouth and stuck it on Helen Frankenthaler's "The Bay," an abstract painting from 1963. The museum acquired the work in 1965 and says it is worth about $1.5 million. The gum stuck to the painting's lower left corner and did not adhere to the fiber of the canvas, officials told the Detroit Free Press. But it left a chemical residue about the size of a quarter, said Becky Hart, assistant curator of contemporary art. The museum's conservation department is researching the chemicals in the gum to decide which solvent to use to clean it. The museum hopes to make the repair in two weeks and will keep "The Bay" on display in the meantime, she said. "Our expectation is that the painting is going to be fine," Hart said. Holly Academy director Julie Kildee said the boy had been suspended from the charter school and says his parents also have disciplined him. "Even though we give very strict guidelines on proper behavior and we hold students to high standards, he is only 12 and I don't think he understood the ramifications of what he did before it happened, but he certainly understands the severity of it now," said Kildee.
  23. QUOTE(samclemens @ Mar 2, 2006 -> 04:56 PM) this is why hillary will not win the presidential election. This and the other 58,351 reasons.
  24. Yay! http://news.scotsman.com/international.cfm?id=324752006 Gary Glitter jailed for three years for molesting children FORMER glam rocker Gary Glitter was today sentenced to three years in a Vietnam prison after being found guilty of molesting two underaged girls. Glitter, 61, whose real name is Paul Francis Gadd, was found guilty of committing obscene acts with a 10-year-old and 11-year-old girl at his rented seaside villa in southern Vung Tau last year. The judge also said Glitter would be deported from Vietnam after serving his sentence. He may be eligible for parole in a year. The court, in its verdict, cited graphic testimony from the girls that Glitter had fondled and molested them multiple times in his rented home and in nearby hotels. In reading out the verdict, Judge Hoang Thanh Tung condemned Glitter for paedophilia. "Caring for children is to care for our future... but Gary Glitter's acts went against this," the judge said. "He sexually abused and committed obscene acts with children many times in a disgusting and sick manner." The judge said that the court would have taken a more serious view had not Glitter already paid £1000 compensation to each family. The former glam rocker showed no emotion while the verdict was read, but threw the court into disarray by proclaiming his innocence afterward. "I haven't done anything. I'm innocent. It's a conspiracy by you know who," Glitter shouted, apparently referring to newspapers that had tracked down his presence in Vietnam. Reporters and onlookers, allowed into the courthouse in southern Ba Ria-Vung province to hear the verdict following the closed two-day trial, pressed toward Glitter in a scene of pandemonium as police fended them off and escorted him out of the building. He has 15 days to appeal the conviction. His attorney Le Thanh Kinh said Glitter would be eligible for parole in a year, after he serves one-third of his time. Glitter, a 1970s pop icon famed for his sequined jump-suits, platform heels and bouffant wigs, sported a more conservative look for his trial: black clothes and a red bandana on his head that he removed inside the court. Police Colonel Duc Tranh, who was in charge of the investigation into Glitter, said after the verdict: "He was sick, but one has to consider whether he was responsible for his actions and in this case I do believe he should accept responsibility. Young children are going to be safer now in Vung Tau." Glitter, who looked visibly thinner since his arrest, has been held at Phuoc Co prison outside Vung Tau since November 19, when he was caught at the Ho Chi Minh City airport trying to board a flight for Bangkok. Police confiscated his laptop, which had hundreds of pornographic pictures on it. Glitter, who hit his musical peak in the 1970s, had hits with Leader of the Gang and Do You Wanna Touch but is perhaps best known for his crowd-pleasing rock anthem Rock and Roll (Parts 1&2), which is still played at many American sporting events. His fall from grace began with a conviction in 1999 for possessing child pornography. He served half of a four-month jail term. He later went to Cambodia and in 2002 was expelled from that country, but Cambodian officials did not specify any crime or file charges.
