South Park Really Ticks Off Catholics
Steff replied to LowerCaseRepublican's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(WCSox @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 09:02 AM) You're right. A few pedophiles and corrupt administrators over a 40-year period represent the entire Catholic Church. They're all a bunch of evil, child-molesting fascists who don't do any good for this world. It's all green and sarcastic until it's someone in your family that's effected. As far as I'm concerned.. all the good deeds don't mean s*** when they cover up for ONE pedophile. And it hasn't been a "few".. unless your definition of a "few" is a "few THOUSAND" accused.. http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/02/16/church.abuse/ NEW YORK (CNN) -- Children accused more than 4,000 priests of sexual abuse between 1950 and 2002, according to a draft survey for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. The survey, to be released February 27, found that children made more than 11,000 allegations of sexual abuse by priests. The 4,450 accused priests represent about 4 percent of the 110,000 priests who served during the 52 years covered by the study. -
:headshake http://cbs5.com/topstories/local_story_003162940.html San Ramon Boys Left Alone, Parents In Las Vegas Save It Email It Print It (CBS 5) SAN RAMON It's a real-life case of Home Alone, only in this instance it's no movie -- and no one is laughing. Police in San Ramon said two brothers, ages 5 and 9, were left home alone while their father and stepmother celebrated New Year's Eve in Las Vegas. Officers found the children unharmed on Saturday after receiving a call from a concerned relative. "I would say it's an unusual case for any type of jurisdiction," said San Ramon Police Sgt. Brian Kalinowski. "It's clearly inappropriate for a 9-year-old and a 5-year-old under any circumstance to be left alone, much less for several days while the parents allegedly ring in the New Year in las vegas." The parents are expected to return to the Bay Area on Wednesday. Police plan to interview them. The district attorney will then decide of charges will be filed. The boys were placed in the custody of county Child Protective Services and later released to their grandmother, according to authorities.

QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 08:48 AM) Fox just showed the footage from last night. Geraldo was interviewing someone and some family members ran up and said all we found alive. Then the jubilation began and bells started ringing. I can't blame Geraldo for this. Same thing on CNN. The media didn't report it.. they caught the "celebration" as it unfolded.

Thanks Mike. BTW... the Gov is an asshole. "But late Tuesday night, families began streaming out of the church, yelling "They're alive!" The church's bells began ringing and families embraced, as politicians proclaimed word of the apparent rescue a miracle. As an ambulance drove away from the mine carrying what families believed was the first survivor, they applauded, not yet knowing there were no others. Though the governor announced that there were 12 survivors, he later indicated he was uncertain about the news. As word buzzed through the church of survivors, he tried to find out what was going on, he said." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060104/ap_on_.../mine_explosion

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 08:39 AM) Somebody is going to pay for this one....either somebody is an idiot for causing miscommunication, or somebody was putting out bulls*** information. Either way, this simply cannot happen, 3 hours of thinking your family is alive, only to find out oops!! sorry, we had it wrong, they are dead. That CANNOT happen, period. Where are you getting 3 hours..??

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) I watch the show often... It was something to the effect of what would be more embarassing, being a life-long Cubs fan or a man with no lips smoking a cigarette. That was it.. Weird show.
-
A church full of 300+ people (which included several of the trapped workers family members) being led by the Reverend screaming "12 alive, 12 alive!!!!" doing the happy dance, etc, etc.. Normally would be a pretty solid source, no? And it's not like CNN really had to report it... they had video footage of the Church congregation high 5'ing eachother. :headshake
-
I never watched this show before, and likely never will again, but last night there was a line where one Dr asks another (sic) what's more embarassing and one of the choices was being a lifelong Cubs fan... Anyone else watch/see this show and catch the line..?

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 08:13 AM) Yeah Steff, I am a delicate flower. You can't just jump all over me, I'm liable to cry. Steff make Tony sad. Eh.. suck it up. I'm an equal opportunity b**** to all.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 08:10 AM) I think the ringing of the Church bells and people screaming in the streets alerted most reporters. From what I pieced together a volunteer relayed the news without waiting to be certain exactly what was said by the guys in the mine. Perhaps he had a friend or family member he phoned? Beats me. Regardless, I'm not blaming the media for this one. The police and g'ment officials should have been more clear with them on the reporting of any news.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 08:15 PM) don't listen to her. just sneak in a bottle of whiskey and you'll be all good. Comprehension is a skill
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 08:05 AM) It sounds to me like it was the volunteers who relayed the news. I'm not certain whet y'all heard, maybe it's different then the report I heard, but speculation was someone, not an official, overheard something, and spread the wrong information. Sadly, when 100 people are all shouting the same thing, it seems real. That's close to what I heard.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 07:33 AM) AL GORE WINS FLORIDA. Katrina. This. The media is nothing but a bunch of whores looking for the "STORY". And these poor people got caught in the middle. It's very sad. I heard this morning that the reporters got the info from a Church official who supposedly got the news from a police official...??? Apparently the police were not speaking directly to the media for this very reason...? I was half listening so I definitely could be wrong..

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 04:41 PM) Wow, I'm a dolt. SWEET. Real classy. LOl All I said was you were incorrect, which you were. Where does the extra tickets come from you ask?? Last time I checked, Soldier is not filled to capacity with season ticket holders, furthermore it was not a "last second" thing as you claim, we secured "our extras" a week and half ago. But then again, I'm wrong because you said the Bears handed the tickets out to the NFL sponsors blah blah blah. Who said it was the Bear's fault?? I think its smart move, it just contradicts the whole "we are trying to eliminate scalpers" joke. I know you feel like its your job to show up anybody and everybody you can on this board, but just because someone doenst agree with you or has***god forbid*** different information, makes them a "dolt"??? LOl Rough holidays?? Yes, dolt, because we're not supposed to use idiot anymore. And classy...? Me..? Umm.. you new here? Your right it's not filled with ST holders.. the seats that are not ST holders went to the Bears, NFL, and sponsors. The 3800 or so that were to be offered to the public were from ST holders NOT buying. Yesterday's sale was last minute. They were not going to do another and let the 2K go to TM, but so many whiner complaints screwed those who were going to try via ticketmaster today. I didn't say you said anything about anything being the Bears fault.. you have a reading comprehension issue...? My comment was generic, to clear things up. I'm not showing anyone up. I'm a season ticket holder so I do know a bit about what they asked from us and where our tickets were going if we chose not to use them. Rough holiday's, not at all. Fabulous as a matter of fact. Thanks for your concern.
-
Oh the irony... a scalper friend just called Jim and offered him $4K for EACH of our tickets... :rolly

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) I was shocked people kept telling me they were going to get Bears playoff tickets. I honestly didnt even wake up to try, because if the White Sox sold out, then you know the Bears with only 1 game and a much bigger fan base are going to sell out. I was suprised they even had tickets for sale really, Bears have no problems filling up. SB I don't know why they bothered either to be honest with you. They easily could have sold all they had to those on the list (paid and non-paid to be fair, IMO).

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) Maybe that "extra motivation" is why the full house cubs do so well every year. Hee, hee, hee...
-
QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) Now you are correct. The Bears wouldnt make announcement about that just like the Sox would never make an announcement stating how few tickets were going to be available to the public with their Season Ticket playoff ticket "Guarantee", pretty much the same principals, scalping the legal way. Its good business for the organizations, but not for the fans. A good majority of season ticket holders will buy extras if given the chance soley to make profit and pay for the rest of the season.... scalpers still win in the end. I was correct the first time, dolt. Where do you think the extra tickets came from? The pre-sale was last minute. And it was for CURRENT SEASON TICKET HOLDERS ONLY. What they choose to do with the tickets is their business, but they, me, as a season ticket holder did, and should, get first chance at extras. If some asshole ticket holders want to sell them to brokers that's NOT the Bears fault.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) ^^^ But I can't say I mind the large crowds that are totally juiced for big games. Get back to us after a few beers and a look at that mens room line..
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 04:07 PM) Not me, I dont mind small crowds. Being a sox fan was never about popularity of the field or the team to me. There is a team on the northside for people who care about crowds. Amen.
-
QUOTE(Pierzynski 12 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) It matters to me.I'd rather go to a game when there's 40,000 people not half of the Cell filled. :rolly Well then.. if that the case I'll pray for small crowds so that we wont have to worry about seeing your fairweather ass there much this year.. :rolly
-
QUOTE(Pierzynski 12 @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) You would be proud to watch a game with less than 20,000 people. :headshake What the hell does that matter...? Fans are proud to watch no matter how many people are in the stands.
-
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jan 3, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) I don't watch the Orioles except when they play the Sox, so I wonder how much fun it was watching Tejada after the AllStar break last year when he hit 7 home runs and had 38 RBI's. As s***ty as he was doing he was still out there trying to get his teammates asses in gear. Raffy and Sosa killed that team with all their bulls***.
